AITU January 4th, 2008, 12:54 PM This is good for the Marina in general and perhaps they are throwing workers at it because of a directive from Alabbar himself to get it finished quickly - the Marina needs it. Imre January 4th, 2008, 01:20 PM they are using precast panels thats why the Marina Plaza will be very fast as well. bizzybonita January 5th, 2008, 12:14 AM work work work finish !!! rgarrison January 5th, 2008, 01:40 AM Imre I always look forward to your amazing updates. I go there sometimes when in London ... Your so posh. Only the best will do for you :) No Tesco or Asda huh  AltinD January 13th, 2008, 09:57 PM ^^ Similarly here: Some people prefer to go to Spinneys and not to others like Choitram, Al Madina or Union-Coop Supermarket. DubaiMarina January 13th, 2008, 11:36 PM That is good news. ^^ Why? Waitrose is new brand for me. Is it better than Spinneys? Dubai_Steve January 14th, 2008, 12:08 AM Waitrose is considered one of the highest quality supermarkets in the UK. DubaiMarina January 14th, 2008, 12:46 AM Very nice. Parisian Girl January 14th, 2008, 03:03 AM Your so posh. Only the best will do for you :) No Tesco or Asda huh  LOL, Why you say so? :) I don't consider myself to be really posh ... I guess I just have very expensive taste. I've worked hard for what I have so when I splash out I like to treat myself. :) Just because I like to buy my confectioneries from Harrods in Knightsbridge, London doesn't make me posh ok! ;) Tesco and Sainsbury's are alright but Asda are out! Had a bad experience with them once so they can kiss my ass! Are Tesco and Sainsbury's in Dubai also? Are Waitrose going to be the main anchor/supermarket at Marina Mall? AltinD January 14th, 2008, 05:51 PM ^^ Waitrose will be the supermarket in Dubai Marina Mall and Dubai Mall. FWIW January 30th, 2008, 10:28 AM Full report here: http://www.retailme.com/?2/4/2008/706/news-middle-east/dubai-marina-mall-progressing The Dubai Marina Mall will be the shopping and lifestyle component for residents and visitors at the Dubai Marina, the first of its kind master-planned waterfront development in the region by Emaar, with an estimated population of 75,000. Dubai Marina Mall will have 390,000 sqft of gross leasable area with over 160 stores offering a retail mix of shopping, dining and entertainment options. MOE - from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mall_of_the_Emirates Mall of the Emirates contains approximately 2,400,000 square feet (223,000 m²) of shops and the entire mall forms a total of approximately 6.5 million square feet. So in summary MOE is much bigger! FWIW February 3rd, 2008, 02:25 PM Let's put it another way - on my doorstep I can shop at Dubai Marina Mall; and with a short drive I could go to MOE and maybe go snow boarding too!!! Why do we need a mall bigger than MOE at DM? Naz UK February 3rd, 2008, 02:40 PM With this, the Marina Arcade, Marina Walk, JBR's Walk, individual outlets within various towers and my DVD lady who comes to visit last thursday of every month, I'm pretty much happy with Dubai Marina's retail offerings to spend my hard earned cash on. :D FWIW February 3rd, 2008, 02:40 PM So you can fit 6 Marina Malls in MoE. Marina mall is not very big then really. Steve if you're having 'size' issues :), then have a look at Dubai Mall: From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubai_Mall It will cover a total area of 12.1 million ft² [1], with 10 - 15 individual smaller malls built inside it, consisting of 9 million ft² of shopping retail space (comprising of a total of 1200 stores). Dubai_Steve February 3rd, 2008, 03:15 PM ^^ That should keep my wife busy for a while :) and I can go and look at the fishes in the aquarium to get some peace. bizzybonita February 4th, 2008, 12:41 PM Emaar’s rentals to form 15% revenue http://www.gowealthy.com/images/news/news_3593_2_24.jpg Profits of malls to be operational soon will reflect in future financials Emaar Properties, Dubai's leading real estate developer expects the rental income from hotels and malls to contribute 15% of the total revenue of the company by 2010, by which time projects such as Dubai Mall, Dubai Marina Mall and a series of hospitality projects undertaken by the company will have been completed, the management team said. The representatives of the Emaar management team explained that the profits from rentals are likely to contribute about 5% to the 2008 profits. Emaar, which is focused more on the emerging markets, has bigger plans for these markets. "There is a six-fold increase in international launches in 2008 - from 3,500 in 2007 to 20,000 units in 2008. This will result in greater marketing costs, which cannot be capitalised and will obviously be charged as expenses, whereas the revenues will be generated later," they explained. By 2010, the company anticipates that the contributions of international operations will constitute 70% of the total revenue. Naz UK February 25th, 2008, 11:48 AM OK, someone spoke too soon, coz 1600 constructions workers went on strike last week, because PIC told them their salaries would be cut from $230 to $122 per month, and the difference put into a "deposit account" on their behalf... so they downed tools and blocked lanes on SZR near Ibn Batutta Mall. The company then agreed not to cut the salaries, and promised an increase of $40 per month, which is still to see the light of day. Expect more soon... GoDubai! February 26th, 2008, 08:37 PM More power to the workers. It's amazing what power can be asserted just by blocking SZR. In other places workers might have to strike a week before management caved in. What a goof up on the company's part. Insane that they would try to sequester half of the workers' pay. Potential buyers can visit the Emaar Sales Centre at Emaar Business Park Building 1, eighth floor, from 9am on March 1. They can also call toll-free, 800 EMAAR (36227), for more details. Amlak is offering easy home finance options of up to 95 per cent of the property value. Three of them – Majara, Al Sahab and the Dubai Marina Towers – have been completed and the keys handed over to buyers. True Blue June 13th, 2008, 10:48 PM Anyone know when the latest expected opening date is for the mall ? I heard that handover for the retailers fitout is due in Sept. Could it be ready for the shopping festival, that is the question. AltinD June 13th, 2008, 11:23 PM ^^ I think it is realistic to expect the mall partially open for the Shopping Festival. BTW since the Mall will have a Spinneys supermarket (under that high-end UK chain's name with whom they tied-up recently), the one near my home has been converted recently to 24h non-stop operation. It used to be up to midnight before. Tightness June 13th, 2008, 11:55 PM Thats good news with Spinneys .. This end here at Marina does lack a proper supermarket .. Is there a list of facilities, shops, restaurants, etc out there yet? Or where do you guys get the info from? jeetha June 14th, 2008, 09:32 AM http://i30.tinypic.com/2ccvt61.jpg http://i30.tinypic.com/2d992xs.jpg http://i26.tinypic.com/15x65o7.jpg jeetha June 18th, 2008, 12:08 PM Emaar Properties unveils Dubai Marina Mall complex Dubai, UAE, June 3, 2007: Emaar Properties has unveiled the Dubai Marina Mall complex comprising a shopping and entertainment centre. Promising to be a total shopping and lifestyle destination, Dubai Marina Mall, located along the waterfront, is scheduled to open in the second half of 2008. The Dubai Marina Mall complex extends over an area of 42,000 sq m and will have 40,000 sq m of net leaseable space. It will house several retail outlets offering an array of shopping options, an extensive spread of restaurants and cafes, a cineplex and children’s entertainment area. A two-level basement plus five-storey parking lot will accommodate over 3,000 vehicles. Emaar Malls Group LLC, the retail subsidiary of Emaar Properties, will start leasing the retail space soon. The focus is on offering a balanced retail and entertainment spread that meets the needs of Dubai Marina residents and visitors. “Dubai Marina is one of the most fashionable lifestyle neighbourhoods in the city, and the Dubai Marina Mall will enhance the quality of living of residents by serving as a one-stop shopping and entertainment destination,” said Mr Rashid Doleh, Chief Executive Officer, Emaar Malls Group LLC. “The Mall also highlights Emaar’s growth strategy of diversifying into sectors such as education, healthcare, hospitality & leisure, malls, finance and industry, in line with the company’s objective of being a total lifestyle provider.” “Dubai Marina has a projected total population of 75,000, and with several thousand residents already living in the waterfront neighbourhood, Dubai Marina Mall has a strong captive clientele. Its central location within the master-development will be a key attraction for tenants,” added Mr Doleh. “We aim to provide an exciting mix of tenants within the mall and will include supermarkets, fashionwear, accessories, jewellers, boutiques, book and toy shops and music centres.” Dubai Marina Mall will sport a distinctive architectural style with a circular atrium that makes utmost use of the waterfront location. A pier, extending to the waterfront, will be lined with cafes and restaurants. The promenade level will anchor a variety of stores as well as food and beverage outlets that open to the waterfront. The ground and first floors showcase a wide range of retail options, while the second floor of the mall is dedicated for children’s entertainment, food court and a cineplex with eight screens. Gourmet tower will make you hungry all the time but will not affect Silverene's view of the water at all.
