I am having a little trouble understanding what is a part of the Marina Mall/Hotel/Residence.

Can someone please add text to this image (http://i35.tinypic.com/2iszbb5.jpg)? I want to know which building is the hotel, which building is the mall, which building is the residential tower, is there a car park in this complex? Also, what exactly is the Gourmet Tower? Is it a tower full of restaurants?

Sorry for all these questions, but I just want to understand what is here.

The Gourmet tower is the administrative tower
the mall has also its own parking upto Basement 3

the tower is the residential building
the parking for tower just right side to the mall ( u can see now there is a ad of Emaar s add)

Anyone knows when the mall scheduled to open? And if there will be a Carrefour / Geant?

The Gourmet Tower, as the name suggests, will contain restaurants. The mall is planned to open later this year and will have a Spinney's operated supermarket under the name of an upscale UK chain, that I forgot the name.

I reckon a nice 20 min walk from the tallest block to eat whatever you want in the gormet tower, followed by a 20 min walk home.

Sounds like a recipe for a healthy lifestyle to me.

Anyone know what will be on the menu yet ?

No, I think AltinD is correct. You seem to have counted horizontal lines, which are not floors. They are just a scaffolding-like, mesh of beams.

Look on the left side of the building. You will see that the circular "things" are actually floors.

My point was that the gourmet tower is as 'tall' as any apt tower with 20+ storeys. Therefore, describing it as 7-storey may, in my opinion, be misleading.

AltinD
July 31st, 2008, 02:51 PM
^^ Obviously there are not just 7 floors on the structure, but how can it be misleading? Regardless if a floor would be 2.5 or 5 meters tall is still one single floor, plus the tower is not as tall as a normal 20 storey building, far from it ... meaning half of it.

AltinD, we do not need more people in the marina, we need less! Above all we need less buildings and construction but more space in between and at least some square meters to breathe... The traffic is already a nightmare and with every new project or development it is getting worse and makes it even more unattractive for the existing tenants or new tenants looking for appartments... Living on a non-ending and very expensive 24h-jobsite is not nice at all...

Do not worry, the Marina Mall will be utilized since most of the people are sick and tired of going to the bloody Mall of the Emirates, where there is not enough parking, Carrefour is crowded etc. What makes the Marina Mall really attractive is the compact size.

The reason why The Walk is not accepted (yet) is easy - no parking, no supermarkets but 3 Starbucks with the lousiest coffee available.

^^ No unfortunately, I don't but the sand dug was disposed at the sides as hills which later were leveled and created the podium. The dug was also done in stages. I remember that 1/3 of the canal on the Marsa side was dug and already the tiles at the bottom were in place, while they had yet to dug the rest of the canal.

If I well remember, they dug then the part near the power station and then joined them at the middle.

Waitrose has today opened the first of two new stores in Dubai, UAE, its first shops outside the UK.

The stores are being opened as part of a licensing partnership with local retailer Fine Fare Food Market LLC.

The first Waitrose opening is a new 55,000sq ft store in the Dubai Mall in Downtown Dubai.

Another 26,000sq ft Waitrose shop will open in the Dubai Marina Mall in early December, with plans for more stores in the region, subject to the availability of suitable sites.

The two stores will employ about 300 staff between them.

FFFM will run the daily operation of the stores, supported by the Waitrose team in the UK.

Dubai Mall is the best example of how quality has been compromised for quantity. Personally, i think Marina Mall will be one of the most visited malls in the city and will probably be mostly high-end, kinda like Wafi.

I'm more excited about the Gourmet tower to be honest. Some nice Italian restaurant's would be awesome. Do we know what restaurants are coming here?

Dubai Marina Mall to house 160 retailers

Dubai Marina Mall, developed by Emaar Malls Group will open on December 22, 2008 to capture holiday sales with more stores opening in the lead up to Dubai Shopping Festival. As a lifestyle shopping and leisure destination, Dubai Marina Mall will be the fashion address and entertainment hub for residents in the Dubai Marina.

With 390,000 sq ft of leasable area over four levels, Dubai Marina Mall will feature 160 stores dedicated to fashion, jewellery, home furnishings, entertainment and a strong waterfront dining offer. Located in the heart of Emaar’s thriving waterfront community, Dubai Marina Mall will provide residents with all the conveniences of a centre for the local community, combined with a retail and leisure mix rivaling that of a world-class shopping mall.

Fashion, accessories and beauty brands on offer will shortly include: Bebe Sport, Karen Millen, Diesel, Ed Hardy, Juicy Couture, Patrizia Pepe, Paul & Shark, Miss Sixty, Byblos, Fred Perry, Lacoste, Nautica, Desigual, Cole Haan, Duchamps, Folli Follie, Yamamay, Guess by Marciano, Reiss, Sephora and Bobbi Brown.

Mr Ian Ferguson, General Manager, Dubai Marina Mall, said: “With a dynamic mix of high street fashion and trendy labels, Dubai Marina Mall will appeal to the cosmopolitan needs of the marina residents. The Dubai Marina attracts a relatively ‘younger’ demographic with singles, the newly married or young families who embrace the vibrant marina lifestyle. Dubai Marina Mall will be the destination of choice for shopping, leisure and entertainment.”

Mr Ferguson added: “Two of the mall’s key features are a great location with convenient access coupled with a strong retail mix. Estimates show that there will be approximately 36,000 residents in the Dubai Marina area by 2010 and this is to grow to 45,000 by 2015. Dubai Marina Mall is ideally placed not only to be a hub for this growing core population but also to service the much broader catchment area of New Dubai as a whole.”

Dubai Marina Mall’s unique positioning on the marina, lends itself to a casual dining experience with al fresco dining and waterfront views. The international food and beverage offer will reflect the varied tastes of marina residents with restaurants such as Dean & Deluca, Yo! Sushi, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Noodle Factory, Karam Beirut, and all-day cafés such as Café Nero, Café Blanc and Eric Kayser to open in early 2009.

In addition, a flagship Waitrose store will come on line in January 2009 offering a wide range of innovative, quality food products. Voted Britain's best high street retailer, Waitrose's dedication to freshness will be reflected through its in-store bakery, butchery, fishmongers and market style fresh fruit and vegetable area. This will be the largest supermarket in the entire Dubai Marina community.

To entertain and provide service to parents and children, Favourite Things, the home-grown children’s edutainment and play centre for parents and children, will open their second UAE outlet at Dubai Marina Mall. Children can play and learn in a safe environment while parents do their weekly shopping.

The entire development comprises The Address hotel and serviced residences; a 7-storey Gourmet Tower dedicated to diverse haute cuisine and accessible by a pedestrian bridge; and Marina Plaza, a commercial tower that was launched to overwhelming customer response. The mall itself has over 2,000 dedicated car parking spaces and is accessible directly from Sheikh Zayed Road via a new tunnel just past exit 32.

Seriously? Only 5-10%? That wouldn't sound so hot would it? I know Marina Mall has a lot less shops than Dubai Mall but even they opened on 50%. It's great to see this mall opening, but why not wait another few short months until they can open on 80-100% capacity? As I already said, opening so soon can only mean = christmas $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Emaar Malls Group, the shopping malls subsidiary of Emaar Properties, will open its newest shopping and entertainment destination, the Dubai Marina Mall, tomorrow.

With a gross leasable area of 390,000 sq ft, the mall will feature 160 retail outlets including a supermarket, fashion wear and accessory outlets, jewellers and boutiques.

Dubai Marina Mall is set in the vibrant Dubai Marina master-planned community. With a spectacular waterfront location, the mall will also offer indoor and al fresco dining options for visitors along an extensive promenade overlooking the Arabian Gulf. The promenade is set to open early 2009.

Dubai Marina Mall sports a distinctive architectural style with a circular atrium that makes utmost use of its waterfront location. The four-level mall has direct access from Sheikh Zayed Road through a purpose-built tunnel accessible from exit 32, Jebel Ali bound. There is also direct access via Marina South Drive also via the Jebel Ali bound lanes. The mall features over 2,000 underground car parking spaces.

Mr Jim Badour, Chief Executive Officer, Emaar Malls Group, said:

'With the opening of The Dubai Mall, our flagship project, Emaar Malls Group has redefined the concept of shopping malls by offering a varied mix of shopping and entertainment options. Dubai Marina Mall will further build on this concept, and offer a refreshing shopping and leisure destination for residents in and visitors to Dubai Marina.'

Mr Ian Ferguson, General Manager, Dubai Marina Mall, added: 'Dubai Marina is an established community with several thousand residents. Located in close proximity to the commercial and hospitality hotspots of Dubai, the mall will serve a large cross-section of the public. For visitors to Dubai, the mall's waterfront ambience and unique mix of retail and F&B outlets will be a distinctive experience.'

Retailers will continue to complete fitting-out operations in the lead up to Dubai Shopping Festival, and attractions soon to open include the UAE's second Waitrose supermarket, one of the UK's leading supermarkets and the largest supermarket in Dubai Marina, and a 10,000 sq ft children's entertainment zone called 'Favourite Things'. The majority of specialty stores will be open by early 2009 in time for Dubai Shopping Festival.

The Address, Dubai Marina hotel and serviced residences, adjoining the mall; a six-screen Cineplex and a 7-storey Gourmet Tower dedicated to diverse cuisines will be part of the mall complex and are scheduled to open during 2009. The Gourmet Tower is an original concept for the city and a significant attraction to the Dubai Marina community.

Emaar Malls Group has ambitious plans to develop modern shopping and entertainment destinations in key emerging markets across the Middle East and North Africa region, the Indian Subcontinent and South Asia.

Emaar Malls Group to open Dubai Marina Mall on December 22

Dubai, UAE,
Dubai, UAE; December 21, 2008: Emaar Malls Group, the shopping malls subsidiary of Emaar Properties, will open its newest shopping and entertainment destination, the Dubai Marina Mall, tomorrow (Monday, December 22, 2008).

Mr Jim Badour, Chief Executive Officer, Emaar Malls Group, said: “With the opening of The Dubai Mall, our flagship project, Emaar Malls Group has redefined the concept of shopping malls by offering a varied mix of shopping and entertainment options. Dubai Marina Mall will further build on this concept, and offer a refreshing shopping and leisure destination for residents in and visitors to Dubai Marina.”

Mr Ian Ferguson, General Manager, Dubai Marina Mall, added: “Dubai Marina is an established community with several thousand residents. Located in close proximity to the commercial and hospitality hotspots of Dubai, the mall will serve a large cross-section of the public. For visitors to Dubai, the mall’s waterfront ambience and unique mix of retail and F&B outlets will be a distinctive experience.”

Retailers will continue to complete fitting-out operations in the lead up to Dubai Shopping Festival, and attractions soon to open include the UAE’s second Waitrose supermarket, one of the UK’s leading supermarkets and the largest supermarket in Dubai Marina, and a 10,000 sq ft children’s entertainment zone called ‘Favourite Things’.

Am i missing something. It might very well be open and all common areas finished. But in Imre's pictures i see no shops open the only two is the body shop and hallmark which will soon have a closing down sale as they'll be paying workers to do nothing.

Whilst few shops open means less vistors means little or no trade.

I wonder how many will never open due to the credit crunch

Dubai_Steve

^^ They will probably all open in the next few weeks. This is only a soft openning.

The Dubai Marina Mall, which opens on Monday, will be targeting local residents who want to avoid traffic jams and Dubai's loud super-malls, at a time when consumer spending in Dubai looks set to slow.

Emaar Malls' latest project will be opening in what could be described as the perfect storm for the city's trademark shopping centres: consumer confidence is wavering at a time and tourist spending is on the slide, while the amount of retail space is growing.

But the Dubai Marina Mall is hoping that local residents will want to avoid traffic jams and opt for a local alternative.

"It's not somewhere you have to plan to get to," said Michael Hughes, executive director at the Brand Union, which is responsible for the new mall's branding.

"Mall of the Emirates and Ibn Battuta aren’t that far away, but it's certainly a lot more convenient to get to."

A presentation of the brand says that the Marina Mall will be "far away from the hustle and bustle of the maddening crowd" and "all about effortless living".

Still, the new mall may have to deal with some hustle and bustle of its own as retailers complete fitting-out operations ahead of next month's Dubai Shopping Festival.

Attractions to open soon include the UAE's second Waitrose supermarket and a 930sqm children’s entertainment zone.

"The majority of specialty stores will be open by early 2009 in time for Dubai Shopping Festival," Emaar Malls said in a statement.

I think it makes sense to open up the mall like this so the staff/security etc. get familiar with things before the big rush.

Well, I heard today that the UAE is expected to achieve 2.4% economic growth over the next year. Way down, of course, from the 2008 rate but growth nonetheless. The person who made this prediction said also that no way would there be any recession in the UAE. Besides, the Marina Mall will have a captive patronage. Why would DM residents venture out to Ibn Battuta or Mall of the Emirates now. Despite completed towers being half empty, there would still be thousands of potential regular visitors from Dubai Marina & JLT.

dirtyharry1
December 24th, 2008, 12:25 PM
Of course the UAE are in a very deep recession!

Job sites are being put on hold or cancelled, the car dealers are sitting with thousands of cars in the desert and no bank is giving credit facilities any more...

Unfortunately the UAE are much more affected than Europe since everything isbeing paid by foreign money...

Nevertheless we shoud be happy to have that mall in the marina, so f..k the crowded MOE and the other bloody malls!

It has the right size and a nice loaction. Everyone should be honest and admit that the only reason to enter any mall is mainly because of the supermarket there...if there are 100 shops or 50 shops, who cares???All shops in all malls are the same and Dubai is for sure no shopping paradise any - for peopole coming with EUROS it is even more expensive.

^^ Agreed. I went today and have to say that it is a very, very soft opening. There is basically nothing on offer--it serves no practical purpose yet. But still nice to see. The food court at the top of the atrium includes balcony seating which overlooks the Marina--spectacular. Those kind of views from a public area in a mall is a first in the UAE. It will be SO crowded when things really open up.

The central hall is a huge, empty and seemingly waste of space, but I suppose it will be utilized for something in time. The layout is very smart--three or four levels around the huge central hall and then again around an elongated rectangular atrium. The parking is also similarly aligned with direct entry and exit on SZR--better it seems than the confusing entrances and exits of many malls--MOE the worst.

From the outside you're basically just seeing the tip of the iceberg (albeit a small one). The base of the mall is for the most part below ground level.

Anyway, there is a 7 screen cinema by the upper food court area, but of course it's not open yet ..like with everything else in the mall.

List of shops is a bit disappointing. Not that I need it but in order to become truly valuable luxury chains need to be there, e.g. LVMH brands, casual such as Diesel, then the whole range of jewellery and watches ..

Am wondering if a department store like Saks would be interested in there? It would make sense given the customer segments in the proximity and the remainder setup of the mail (gourmet restaurants)..

As of now, it reads like a shop list of IBN Battuta mall

26,000 sq ft store showcases extensive range of quality food products

Opening in conjunction with Dubai Shopping Festival on January 15

Dubai, UAE; January 14, 2009: The newly opened Dubai Marina Mall will unveil the Dubai Marina's largest supermarket, Waitrose on January 15, 2009, to coincide with the Dubai Shopping Festival 2009. Waitrose joins a list of high-profile retail brands in Dubai Marina Mall, a new shopping and leisure destination for residents in the Dubai Marina neighbourhood. The mall's retail mix brings to visitors a diverse range of shopping choices, coinciding with the Dubai Shopping Festival.

The 26,000 sq ft Waitrose store will showcase the brand's extensive range of quality food products. Located on the promenade level and nearby main car park entrances, the store is accessible and convenient for all mall visitors. Dubai Marina Mall has direct access from Sheikh Zayed Road through a purpose-built tunnel accessible just past exit 32, Jebel Ali bound. There is also direct access from Emaar Drive via the Jebel Ali bound lane.

Waitrose has entered into a licensing agreement with Fine Fare Food Market LLC to open the store in Dubai Marina Mall. The first debut for Waitrose store in UAE and outside UK was at The Dubai Mall in November, 2008.

Mr Ian Ferguson, General Manager, Dubai Marina Mall, said: "The Waitrose store at Dubai Marina Mall will offer a variety of choices that will suit the lifestyle needs of residents in Dubai Marina and surrounding areas. Waitrose has tremendous brand equity, and will appeal to a wide spectrum of shoppers. The opening of Waitrose, which adds to the mix of outlets already open, is a reflection of the Dubai Marina Mall's objective of bringing in as many unique shopping experiences as possible to the city."

He added: "The opening also coincides with the Dubai Shopping Festival, a period marked by high retail activity. The new store will offer a wide range of choices thus adding to the shopping buzz generated by the high-profile shopping and entertainment event that will attract thousands of visitors to Dubai during the month."

Waitrose at Dubai Marina Mall will offer an assortment of Waitrose branded products as well as locally sourced products to meet the needs of the Dubai cosmopolitan population. The product range includes fresh and frozen foods, delicatessen, cheese, fresh fish, meat, patisserie and hot food counters.

Considering local tastes and traditions, Waitrose at Dubai Marina Mall will only sell-certified Halal food in the main store arena. A fully-functional scratch bakery; interactive butchery and fishmongers and a market-style fresh fruit and vegetable area will underscore the Waitrose commitment to freshness. The store will also carry a selected range of John Lewis non-food products.

Located in Dubai Marina, one of Dubai's most dynamic lifestyle communities, Dubai Marina Mall is a modern shopping and lifestyle destination with a gross leasable area of 390,000 sq ft spread across four levels and featuring 160 stores tailored to the lifestyle and entertainment needs of the marina residents. Waitrose is located on the lowest floor, so best access you get presently from Sheik Zayed Road where you can enter the lower parking floors - from the Marina you cannot get there at present, you have to go up to minimum level 2.

But go there, it is a really relaxing way of shopping! Forget the other disgusting places like spinneys and carrefour!

I have to second my opinion again.

It is wonderful to have the mall now, it does let the "back" part of the Marina appreciate .. I have also been to Waitrose today, wonderful but I guess it will also get crowded at some point (supermarket was relatively busy when compared to the rest to the mall).

Food court outer seating area is fantastic. One of the best places in the world to enjoy a fast-food meal. You are looking across Marina (Marina Quays literally opposite!) and can even get a glipse of the sea.

Selection of shops very poor, no real high class shops (2-4) for luxury goods.

every malls in Dubai have the same shops, same brands why should be the Marina Mall different?

Some shops already closed at the Walk , Marina Walk almost empty, many towers were handed over in 2007 and 2008 and still no shops there. (Marina View Towers,Gargash Tower,Timeplace etc..) and more empty shops coming soon because some real estate agencies will close the office.

Range of shops in a IBN Battuta mall is different then in MoE, Burjuman or others.

I am missing a certain range of highend luxury labels in the Marina Mall that would well fit with the environement 1. the Gourmet restaurants that will come up 2. the rather exclusive customer segments of the Marina.
I expected to have the Saks or Harvey N's a small outlet...

Well, at the end I have a nice supermarket and I am happy.
