View Full Version : JEDDAH l PRO l OIC Headquarters.
HiJazzey December 20th, 2005, 04:34 AM Hi guys,
Does anyone have any pics or info regarding the new headquarters for the Organisation of Islamic Conferences? I know it is located next to the Islamic Development Bank tower on King Khaled street, and I know the foundation stone was laid by King Abdullah during the OIC summit earlier this month. Anyone has any renders/details?
Gilgamesh December 20th, 2005, 02:32 PM Is this (http://www.oic-competition.org/site.htm) it?

I think those renders are only the development proposal. The project here should be only one building.
UAE_CONDOR December 20th, 2005, 06:48 PM هذه مشروع اعمار المشترك مدينة الملك الاقتصادية ؟؟ ولا غيره

HiJazzey December 20th, 2005, 09:49 PM OK, looking at the OIC website, and OIC project competition site, I believe that the press misunderstood.
I think King Abdullah and Pres. Ahmed Badawi of Malaysia unveiled a plaque launching the project, not lay a foundation stone, since nothing has been built yet.
From what I understand, they're integrating the new OIC headquarters construction, with an area regeneration programme as a single package. The plans are:
Phase 1 - Build OIC HQ tower on a site in Khozam park, construct an elevated highway along Mecca road, and redevelop the whole of the Khozam area.
Phase 2 - Redevelop as-Sabeel district (the area between King Khaled street and King Fahad fly-over)
Phase 3 - Redevelop the area between al-Balad and as-Sabeel (from Bab Mecca to King Fahad fly-over)
Design concept: The district is to be aligned along two main axes: "The Unification path" and "Islamic nations path". Buildings will be built on and orientated towards each axis, with adjoining areas developed into gardens and piazzas etc...
Design competition: The OIC has put the project up to international competition. Firms are to submit their concepts and plans, and the winning design will be awarded a 100,000 USD prize. The first stage of the competition is primary qualification. The deadline for registration is 20 January. On 8 March, a shortlist of entrants is announced, and they are invited to submit more detailed plans. On 25 April, the winning design is chosen.

Bahraini Spirit December 20th, 2005, 10:17 PM Looks cool but without harmony. Some of these towers won't be the same. For example, look at the twins in the middle (they copied and pasted the bfh dual towers):

smussuw December 20th, 2005, 10:54 PM Personally, I think it looks ugly
What is the point of putting those skyscrapers this way? :ohno:
Skyline-BRN December 20th, 2005, 11:07 PM OH great BFH Part 2!!
HiJazzey December 20th, 2005, 11:10 PM These are just artist impressions. We'll see real designs in the summer. And I think this is one of the most impressive projects in the middle east. You're regenerating a large chunk of central Jeddah.
safqa_tijariya December 21st, 2005, 12:47 AM very nice projets! but what will there exactly be inside those buildings?
1. surely a hotel...
2.conference room...
(the one who participate are usually islamic world leaders and a few religious cleric.. 1 tower is enough to accomodate all of them...
will there be shopping malls or anything? im looking more into knowing what will their use be, because its a great project!
Skoulikimou December 21st, 2005, 01:00 AM i dont like it , it look lilke a theme park
safqa_tijariya December 21st, 2005, 01:04 AM skouli your not wrong seriously it looks more of a museum because the green space is very big in comparison with the tower.. and there isnt anything except a few tower....

Essentially, OIC is a regional multi-national government beuraucracy just like the ASEAN or the Arab League. So there's a lot of offices and departments and a general assembly etc...
Also, I think within the "Islamic nations" path, you might have individual areas leased out to member countries to have their own centres. So you can have a Malaysia centre etc...
Riyadhi December 21st, 2005, 03:36 PM Guys Guys Guys listen to Hijazzey!!
This is just an impression. There is a competition going on and they'll announce the winner by May of 2006. The real project is only a tower and conference section. Just read this part from the oic-competition website,
[QUOTE]FUNCTIONAL SECTION OF THE HEADQUARTERS
The O.I.C. headquarters should be constructed on the site with total surface of 40.000 (forty thousands) square meters, and a half of that surface can be use for development,
The headquarters should be organized in three sections:
Office section is a dominant part of the headquarters. Recommended building height of the office section is 24 floors
Conference section, with library and exhibition halls as two semi-independent components, with four floors as the recommended height.
Services and garage section, recommended to be an independent underground structure connected with other sections with safe corridors.
Heliport should be proposed above the garage structure.
Open area, around 20.000 square meters of surface, should be organized as a garden integrating traditional value of Islamic gardens into a modern context. Greenery combined with water elements should be introduced in the building wherever it is possible. Interior and exterior gardens should
and btw, Saudi Arabia is paying for this project..
smussuw December 21st, 2005, 03:42 PM and btw, Saudi Arabia is paying for this project..
who is supposed to build'em if not Saudi Arabia?
HiJazzey December 21st, 2005, 03:50 PM Saudi Arabia bankrolls the whole OIC.
Subangite January 1st, 2006, 03:56 AM I think King Abdullah and Pres. Ahmed Badawi of Malaysia unveiled a plaque launching the project,
Pres. Ahmed Badawi of Malaysia? I think you mean Prime Minister ABDULLAH bin Ahmad Badawi, not President. Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy, there is a King as a head of state and as such no presidents.
The King of Malaysia is Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong XII Tuanku SYED SIRAJUDDIN ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, the Raja of Perlis.
Saudi Arabia bankrolls the whole OIC.
Bless the Saudi's, they're so generous?
Anyways I really hoping the winner will use a lot of geometric designs to show an islamic influence? Whatever the case I'm sure it'll be grand. By the way does anyone know what the current OIC General Secretariat building looks like?

Sorry, my mistake. I was writing from memory. Yes, I meant Prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. And yeah, I believe Malaysia has quite a complicated system of monarchy.
Regarding the OIC, Saudi Arabia is the biggest proponent, and by extension the biggest backer. As for the old OIC building, I don't have a picutre but it's an ugly green coloured sixties style building.
Olive touch January 1st, 2006, 06:48 PM I don't have a picutre but it's an ugly green coloured sixties style building.
You mean Al Farsi style (Zebra stripe towers) :D. Not another building like that please.
Saudi guy January 2nd, 2006, 09:16 AM you mean they will remove all that old build in these area????i mean people hous? in fact i cant belive they can collips it all that area will change.

Hi Shayan,
these are just artist renders, so don't take them too literally. But in any case, those empty spots are areas, which they won't develop because they're occupied by large organisations (eg. Jeddah police HQ)
HiJazzey January 3rd, 2006, 12:26 PM look to these things idont know what it is ,my frinde told me it may TV Tower :sleepy: the worker do hard time with it in morning and night as will thay never stoped
Saudi guy,
Any more info on this?
Riyadhi January 3rd, 2006, 09:29 PM I think it's the location of Jeddah TV center.
HiJazzey January 3rd, 2006, 10:42 PM It probably is a TV tower, the current TV centre is in the same area.
This is the current TV centre:

k7le September 26th, 2006, 07:02 PM woow .. awsome ..need more info !!? .. thx.
gohorns September 26th, 2006, 08:13 PM Isn't this just one of the proposals submitted for the competition? If so, there is no guarantee that this is the one that will get chosen and built. I agree that design is very impressive and I have never seen anything like it but to expect the selection panel to pick something this revolutionary is probably a little optimistic. I think they'll go with the usual glass and steel building.
I hope I am wrong and this is the one that is eventually built. :)
Saudi guy September 26th, 2006, 09:03 PM That's so awesome!!
i think its the same project that HiJazzey posted in December 2005
