View Full Version : Construction photo threads

I've had a thought...

Big projects inevitably generate so much interest that from approval to completion we could be looking at several threads as it surpasses the 500 post limit several times. We've had threads surpass 500 posts before groundwork's even started before.

Personally I think this a real shame, as 'construction' threads don't really provide a very useful resource after the event to watch a tower's growth as you have to sift through 2,500 posts spread across 5 threads to 'watch it grow'.

What say y'all that for each project we have a 'photo thread' which is strictly limited to construction photos with no posts of text?

This means we really can chart each tower's growth all on one thread.

I suggest each photo be in chronological order, perhaps starting with the site before demolition, and with the post title being devoted to the date. Ideally therefore the entire thread would be photos of the tower rising from the ashes of the previous building.

Good idea, or should I just go back to sleep?

I think we should keep everything in one "official" thread, rather than having separate photo threads. If people each decide to post, say, 5 photos per post, then you're looking at 100 pics for every page... that's enough to crash most peoples' browsers (something that frequently happened in City vs City). I also don't like the idea of being unable to post comments or other info about the images being posted.

Bad idea in my opinion. Sorry Joe.

Instead, I think we should just make sure that the 500th post in each thread has a link to the next one. Its successor then has a link back to the previous one, and so on, so they're all linked. Then we archive the old threads, so they're not lost. If you see what I mean...

Fair enough, but do you really want to refer back through 2,500 posts over 5 threads to watch a tower's development?

shouldnt we be talking about this in private first ;)

Well its hardly earth-shattering or controversial... I was just thinking out loud to see what the general sentiments of forumers in general were.

heh thats true joe, i just like all moderators to row their boats in the same direction in public. i like your idea btw, i just dont think its doable partly because people want comments on their pics too.

This could work. If people could post most of there pics in here. Of course as said above we would have to be careful how many are on one page.

If you do get a really good one though, i think it should be posted in this and the developments official thread. But this could really help people see the combined force of Londons construction boom! (Well, i wouldnt call it a boom yet, but just wait till 07...:D)

Take a leaf out of the guys in the Ozforums, when they get to the 500th post and start a new thread, they start with some historical photos to show how far they've come.

Maybe a Moderator could just create a one-post thread drawing together all the best construction pics with a bit of blurb upon completion? It could be chucked in 'Completed projects'.

It just seems a shame that all of the great threads charting towers' construction end up lost in a sea of newer threads, it would be nice to have a more organised 'archive', as this is probably the best place in the world to find such a thing.

Well i should me a moderator...

...anyway...

I think it would be best to go along the lines of something like the ''London full summary'' thread. You know how the moderators update the 1st post of the thread with new proposals and approvals...?

well every project/building should have their own identity by having their own individual thread, with the first page constantly being updated with new information, updates and new renders.

Any articles that are intersting which were, say, posted on the 12th page..., put a significant quote on the first page. You know? things like that make it more special! :colgate:

This means that, instead of searching through all 24 pages to witness its growth, you can find the building's growth, information, and renders all on the first page. How helpful is that!?

And im not talking hundreds of pictures that look the same..., but different, more prestigious ones only that differ from the previous

The pics and renders (even personal ones) should inform us of the date, whom it was taken by, etc etc et cetera (and so on;))

For example, we got the "Ontorio" thread as a prime example:

yeah, sure we got a render and 1 pic of construction, but why not take a peice of the ''London full summary'' thread and bring it into the thread; the architect, status, website, more renders and more construction pics. A bit like what Wjfox done on the ''willis'' thread. :D

Oh.... im on a role now...

I demand a public Parliment, not a real one, just on a thread were forumers can share their ideas, like a democracy. I see the moderators as people like Hitler, keeping things a secret from the ordinary forumers, raising taxes, no voice for the SSC peoples, no annual political parties being allowed to be set up for a particular forumber to become a Moderator for, say, 2Q's.

yeah joe, or i could just be arsed to go to london more and take pics for my site. the result would be the same... but then, a construction pic section is something for next year :)

just recently the SSC UK SKybar elections were held on the 1st of May I believe, with the Coalition against the Forty Five Second Rule (C.A.F.S.R) and the one in which I was illustrious leader, the 'whats wrong with the forty five econd rule 'anyway' movement (W.W.W.T.F.F.S.R.A). I think the overall result was a draw, but They managed to get the 45 sec rule down to 39.....
