It depends on the final height of Burj Dubai. Not because I'm comparing their height, but BD looks stupid in a short stubby 700m form. It's gotta go at least 850m to put it into the right proportion. :)

I'm going with Bhurj Dubai though Al Bhurj is not without it's charms especially in that night render.

They both look so futuristic. It's a tie for me.

Al Burj looks so powerful. It's get my vote. But is it getting built tho?

If all things go well between now and another good few years, then there's no reason why not.
For various reasons I don't think it'll be as tall as they say it will but that's a different story.

we have to see more of al burj to decide, but at the moment burj dubai is just much more exciting.

Its a tough one. Burj Dubai looks very classic and nice, but I must admitt I'm more in to Al Burj's futuristic look.

I'm confused at how on earth Dubai are gonna fill all these towers they are building. Even with all this mass worldwide promotion I still don't think they'll achieve their goals. They are mad imo.

My vote goes to Al Burj. The design of the Burj Dubai is not really that impressive, though it's height makes it something special. For me Al Burj has much better architecture, especially the fact that it will be open in the middle. Must be huge when you're standing there...

Palm deira won't be finished until 2013, the waterfront will probably take until 2020 to be completely ready and then the airport city will take even longer. If this were all built right now it would be a disaster but even though Dubai is a small city population growth there is rapid. It grows by about 100,000 to 150,000 a year and most of these people aren't construction workers. I don't think there's any proof of this but ask any Dubai forumer and they'll tell you about the increase in traffic.

This frenzy will cool down eventually though. Some projects may be redesigned to a more realistic size.

it is a growth of 200.000 per year, without construction workers ;)

AND i don't think Dubai Waterfront will take until 2020, and i don't think they will scale down any project, they will announce even bigger ones ... :D

For height, if built, Big Al will win.

BTW, is anybody in for referrring Al Burj to BIG AL? Sounds more personal since Burj Dubai has the name Burj in it and Burj al Arab has that as well.

I especially like that it is in fact a cluster of three towers with a hollow interior.

Al-Burj, IMHO, is much more creative. Burj Dubai really looks too fanciful, like its just a bunch of tubes put in a three-leaf pattern. I can see its charm, but I really prefer a more practical (and fresher) design like Al-Burj.

i have a vision that when both are constructed, it will look a bit like lord of the rings:the two towers...with both towers complimenting each other in the distance

I like Burj dubai more, It's slender and it moves its way to the top. Al burj seems somewhat uninspired.

For me it is both. They each have something unique about.

Both, er, stacked on top of each other, with a giant concrete palm on top of the spire, with an actual size Eiffel Tower on one frong, and the 3 pyramids, which glow in the dark, on another frong, built in the middle of the sea, with an underground airport and a Costa Coffee with free Wi-fi access in the giant 20 storey lobby.

Burj Dubai at the moment simply because all we have of Al Burj is a couple of renders so I find it harder to get excited about that than I do about BD.

What I love about the Al Burj is that you will be able to look up through the middle to the top. You can't do that with the BD. BD looks great but Al Burj gets the vote from me.

I like the BD because of it's sheer might and presence on the landscape, however the pure elegance of aB wins it for me.
