The expansion includes a 70,000 sq m mall expansion + 8 stories Hotel + 12,000 sq m Carrefour hypermarket + parking building + bridge. Construction is underway and it seems that it will be completed by the end of the year.


The total area of the mall will be 280,000 sq m = 3,000,000 sq ft. I think this will make it the largest mall in the Middle East.

So much fine memories in Rashid Mall. I remember it was the only mall in the region at that time. It was a family even traveling to Saudi Arabia to visit this mall, then go to Misheal Mall before it got burned and offcoure AlKhobr Mall.

Unfortunatly, I cant say that anymore, going to Saudi arabia is anything but a family event. Instead of planning to go there we plan how to get to bahrain by avoiding Saudi arabia.

Just out of curiosity, why do you say that about Saudi Arabia?

i think your wrong Riyadh had the first huge malls in the region, Al akharia mall in Riyadh was built in 1980. Al Rashid was built in the early 90's and yes it became the biggest mall when it was built.

When i say the region, i mean the western coast of the arabian paninsula. Rashid mall was the first of its kind in the area of eastern coast KSA, Bahrain and Qatar.

i think the oldest mall is hera mall in jeddah if not then its in kuwait. i think there is a mall in kuwait which was built in around 1960.. if im not mistake or 1970...?

Hera2 is no way near the oldest. You've got Khaima market, Baroom, Korninsh center and all those old malls that were on Falasteen street and the old parts of Medina road that are definitely a lot older.

^^RAshed Mall was the biggest mall in the region when it was built.

And yes, Rashid Mall will come back to be the largest in the middle east until Dubai Mall is complete. It will be larger than Shobily Mall and Mall of Emirates.

Yemeni Guy, I'm not so sure that its fully done, they have the supermarket complete and it looks finished on the outside, but they are still working on that bridge over the road and other parts of the mall...Work is still progressing.

It's not completed yet. I believe that they plan to open it in April.

This project was completed few years back.. it is huge..
