you have to keep in mind our weather doesn’t really help, they spend massive amounts of money on landscaping and it would live past the summer.

We have to do our landscapping with more thought of our environment. We live in a harsh hot dry country. There are many ways to do that. The use of geotextile fabric and water retention fabrics are one of many ways you can maximize the use of water. Remember any plant or tree has its roots "bathed" with water. This amount of water is only around 5% of the total irrigated water. Now if you design beforehand the landscapping so that this water can be recouped and channeled into an underwater reservoir to be re-used again, you immediately reduce the needed amount of water by 95%. I have yet to see a single project in Kuwait utilize this scheme. It might cost a little more in the initial cost, but it will more than pay for itself many times over in the future.

Believe it or not, Kuwait has an excess of water and during the hottest summer months when the Hydro Electric plants are producing much more energy than usual (for AC) the by product water is just thrown directely to the sea. The amount last year was more than 28 million gallons a day of pure fresh water. Ironically during the winter months we have to produce more electricity than we need because we are in need of more fresh water. It would not take a genius to realize that a much better idea is to store the excess water in large strategic reservoirs to be used when needed instead of running the boilers in the winter just to make water. It would save a tremendous amount of energy and make a lot more sense. It is amazing that the status quo goes on unchallenged year after year ...

I'd say scrap the palms and the water theme build parking instead cuz thats what we need ... in Kuwait you must think of the parkings before the project :D

differences75
December 26th, 2005, 01:55 PM
Parkings should be built in such a way that it doesn't take some much land... that would be a waste ... a multi-story car park is an ideal solution at the time being

Construction cost.. cheaper to keep it above ground.. Good luck getting in your car at 3PM when its nice and crispy...

i wish our governments would listen to that sort of reasoning; instead they acquire the opinion of a highly overpaid foreign expert who hasn’t lived in the country and doesn’t grasp how large the difference is between our environment and his.

The project will comprise of 105,000m2 of retail (approximate) and a 56,000m2 (approximate) multi-storey car parking. Although the car park and mall adjoin they are effectively separate structures

The mall structure has three floor levels above ground and one basement level. The floors above ground level have a curved perimeter with a limestone clad perimeter feature wall. The cross sectional dimension of the structure are approximately 190m x 180m.

There is an existing raft foundation built for a previous development and this is to be incorporated as part of the foundations for the new structure.

360 Kuwait is a new shopping mall development located off the 6th Ring Road, Kuwait City, Kuwait, and is to comprise 105,000m2 of retail (approximate) and a 56,000m2 (approximate) multi-storey car park. Although the car park and mall adjoin they are effectively separate structures, and my client have been commissioned by OHA Engineering Consultant to undertake the concept and scheme design of the mall structure. This report pertains to the scheme design, which was developed based on the structural concepts described in 360 Kuwait Concept Design Report (rev 0), issued in June 2005.
The mall structure has three floor levels above ground and one basement level. The floors above ground level have a curved perimeter with a limestone clad perimeter feature wall. The cross sectional dimension of the structure are approximately 190m x 180m. The occupancy of each level is as follows:
• Basement: Hypermarket, retail, plant rooms and storage
• Ground Level: Retail, restaurants and cafés
• Level One: Retail, restaurants and cafés
• Level Two: Entertainment centre, cinema, bowling alley, restaurants and cafés.
• Roof: No MEP plant loading and there are various skylights
There is an existing raft foundation built for a previous development and this is to be incorporated as part of the foundations for the new structure.

Updated tamdeen website
renders of 360 and its interior

360° Kuwait is a truly unique destination coming up at the intersection of King Faisal Highway and the 6th Ring Road, amidst a busy and growing residential area. With a retail area of over 72,000 square meters, the mall will offer one of the most engaging shopping and leisure experiences in Kuwait. Superb architecture will showcase the best of international, regional and local retailers to create a delightful experience for visitors. A hypermarket, two department stores and fabulous leisure and entertainment arenas will be just some of its major attractions.

360º Kuwait
Kuwait City, Kuwait

MESA and RTKL Architects have created an exciting new destination for visitors and shoppers in Kuwait City. The three-story retail shopping center is grounded in curvilinear forms radiating from the mall’s center forming broad arcs that permeate through the development. From the mall’s primary entrance, a wooden pier extends over the water allowing visitors to experience expansive views and a towering geyser. The Solar Garden, an indoor/outdoor restaurant entices shoppers to garden rooms, small fountains, and pools of exotic fish. An existing mosque remains on site.

Tamdeen Shopping Centers 'delivers promise' and to inaugurate 360 Kuwait on time

Tamdeen Shopping Centers Company (TSC), a subsidiary of the Tamdeen Real Estate Company, announces the near completion of its latest innovative shopping center, 360 Kuwait.

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd166/7amani1/360.jpg

TSC says that the launch will commence in spring 2009 as planned. The leasing process is complete, and the investors have received their units and have already started renovating and decorating.

This iconic project will showcase a range of amenities and services. Its prime location will provide all visitors easy accessibility. The shopping center features a variety of luxurious brands, selective tenant mix and complies with international standards in the design, location and the multi level parking spaces.

Not only will 360 Kuwait follow international standards, but it will also deliver a new shopping experience for its customers. 360 KUWAIT's appearance highlights its distinctiveness. Unique zones provide journeys through themes of day and night. The exterior concept is designed in an elegant circular design and is surrounded by a greenery areas and well designed landscape.

Marzouq Jasem Al Marzouq, Chairman of Tamdeen Shopping Centers, said:
'We at Tamdeen Shopping Centers constantly strive to create new projects that are tailored to meet the demands of Kuwaiti society. We exceed their expectations by delivering innovative shopping centers that are recognized globally.'

'In a country like Kuwait where entertainment is fairly limited and the hot climate mandates more activities indoors, shopping centers have become leisure and entertainment destinations. They contain a wide range of entertainment facilities under one roof. 360 Kuwait will be in the heart of business and community networks in Kuwait. It provides easy access from many main streets, welcoming visitors from all directions and communities,' Al Marzouq added.

360 Kuwait will include a mix of luxury brands, dining and entertainment being introduced for the first time in Kuwait. Furthermore, it will also feature a state-of-the-art family entertainment centre designed for various age groups and the largest cinema complex in Kuwait, including the latest IMAX 3-D screen. Furthermore, renowned Geant hypermarket will be introduced in 360o Kuwait and in Kuwait for the first time, offering a wide array of top brands. This innovative development will also feature unparalleled services that include a concierge and a designated multi-level car parking space.

'We are pleased to announce the near completion of this project, overcoming different challenges that were faced. We are confident that this project will have a positive effect not only in Kuwait, but on the entire GCC area,' Al Marzouq said.

^^ i agree with crazy i've been living in dubai for four years now, and i study architecture so i have a general understanding of whats good and whats bad. i have to admit even though they have tons of large project they seriously lack the attention to detail..... really bad finishing and the palm island in jumerah is a major disappointment bad quality of finishing and landscaping it really looks cheep and artificial. The Dubai Mall as well has bad finishing, bad flooring and squeaky escalators... im glad that in kuwait projects have great finishing qualities and most of them are unique pieces of architecture. Dubai is all about drama and flair, kuwait is about quality

actually i think there is no need to compare them.Dubai has its own touch and status that is not only better than any gulf country rather better than many famous cities in the world.

as far as kuwait is is concernd it has its own type of development that has recently started to progress for the betterment, and we can hope that in the near future it will be if not better then atleast a compettive place to dubai.

Tamdeen Shopping Centers Development Company, a subsidiary of Tamdeen Real Estate Company, announces the partnership and addition of Kuwait National Cinema Company 'Cinescape' to their latest flagship project 360 Kuwait.

This strategic partnership comes about providing the latest cinema halls as well as including the first 3D IMAX theatre, allowing 360 Kuwait to become the first shopping center that offers the IMAX experience in Kuwait.

Vice Chairman & CEO of Tamdeen Shopping Centers Company Mr. Ahmed Al Sarawi said:
'Our vision behind creating 360 Kuwait outlines our strategy of providing an entertaining and an exciting shopping experience that are encapsulated in one shopping center.'
http://www.ameinfo.com/images/news/3/70183-360kuwait.jpg
'Visiting cinemas has become one of the most prevalent recreational activities in Kuwait, which is the reason why we have ensured that Kuwait National Cinema Company's (Cinescape) presence would come about providing a fifteen grand screen complex to accommodate 360 Kuwait's visitors,' added Al Sarawi.

Kuwait National Cinema Company's Chairman, Mr. Nawaf Ahmed Al Marzouq said: We at KNCC strive to enrich the cinematic experience for our viewers. Our future plans outline our strategy in providing the latest cutting edge products and services as well as offering more comfort to viewers.'

'We will also be able to demonstrate more expertise and excitement to 360 Kuwait's visitors by adding the IMAX facility, the first of its kind in a shopping centre in Kuwait. The IMAX Theatre Network currently consists of more than 280 IMAX affiliated theatres in 38 countries around the world. Approximately 60% percent of the theatres are located in North America,' added Al Marzouq.

It is worth mentioning that the use of IMAX facilities is common within institutional venues such as scientific centers, museums, and planetariums, due to the cutting edge technology it provides in delivering clear and concise motion pictures. The newly added IMAX facility, housed in 360 Kuwait, position it to become the first shopping center in the country that would encapsulate a 3D equipped movie theater, as well as the largest movie screen complex, all under one roof.

360 Kuwait will include a mix of luxury brands, dining and entertainment being introduced for the first time in Kuwait. Furthermore, amongst the wide variety of sumptuous food lounges and cafes, it will also feature a state-of-the-art family entertainment centre designed for various age groups. Renowned Géant hypermarket will be introduced in Kuwait for the first time through 360 Kuwait, offering a wide array of top and selected international brands. This innovative development will also feature unparalleled services that include a concierge and a designated multi-level car parking space.

360 MALL will get the world’s largest indoor vertical garden as an added attraction, to provide a world class shopping and entertainment experience.

This ambitious visual and aromatic centerpiece is a living botanical wonder containing an extensive array of ferns, orchids and geraniums.

'Our goal with 360 MALL is to create an environment that is unlike any other shopping center here in Kuwait,' said Rachid Kamza, Tamdeen Shopping Center’s deputy general manager of developments and projects.

'The vertical garden is not only a thing of beauty; it also has environmental benefits for the mall. As well as the natural impact of plants on the air quality in the mall, it also helps lower energy consumption in both winter and summer. This is about bringing a taste of the natural beauty we all value back into our daily lives.'

'This vertical garden is set to become a must-see destination for people in Kuwait and beyond. It is something people will want to see and experience for themselves,' added Patric Blanc, a botanist and the inventor of the Vertical Garden.

'However, the ecological benefits are equally important. The felt is designed to consume any air-borne pollutants and convert them to plant fertiliser making the Vertical Garden an efficient tool for air and water remediation.

Hey Crazy,

Funny how a year just flew by and here we are finally awaiting the opening of the much talked-of mall..Well, got a small job for you...You need to get us snapshots....

The mall in general is really beautiful from the outside and inside as seen in the previous pages and on 360 dewan....Except the palm trees near the waterwork out dont look so fancy and the table for the front row of the cinemas look so out-of-place.

Talking about cinemas, hows the movie scene in kuwait now? Back in 2002 when I was last in Kuwait, most of the kuwaiti friends I hung out with preferred either Hindi or English...There's something about arabs and Indian movies mainly bollywood hindi movies....just dont get that wonder y...

I went to the mall this morning, i have to say the interior was quite surprising. great attention to details and the different zones make the mall feel much larger than it is. i think the pictures will say everything. (no starbucks or alshaya' shops in sight "which i must say is refreshing") i especially liked the "green" wall in the ground floor food court.
