Name of project: West Tower, Pearl River New City, Guangzhou, China
Height: 432m
Number of storeys above ground: 104
Plot space: 31,084.96m2
Total floor space: 448,000m2
Total investments: 750 million USD
Date of ground breaking: 26 December 2005
Estimated year of completion: 2009
Functions: offices, hotel, apartments, convention, shopping, sightseeing, culture and entertainment, etc.

In the future, an East Tower will be built next to this building. It is not clear yet if design of the East Tower has started. As for the question whether the East Tower will look the same as the West Tower, people in charge say there will be "harmony" between the two.

In the old design, the East Tower looks the same as the West Tower. Don't know if the final design of the East Tower will remain unchanged.

Anymore pictures of the building from another angle?

Looks nice and sleek. Seems that the chinese has a preference for non-spire building lately and i hope they keep it that way.

I remember this building - there was a design competition for it. The thread was on here a few months ago, I'll have a quick browse for it in a second. I believe one of the forumers works for the company that designed it and might be involved with construction if I remember correctly.

Glad to see something happening with it, I was begining to think it'd never go any further.

Found the old threads.

And the older one with all the designs for the competition in.

That's what I often thing about a lot of these really tall buildings. But a wise man (or not so wise) once said, "if you build it, they will come". I'm sure they'll find someone to inhabit these buildings.

Johan
August 15th, 2006, 09:32 AM
In fact the CITIC Plaza is near full and most other skyscrapers as well. However, as the huge quantities of new offices come on the market in the Pearl River New City there will be a slight over-supply but that will only be temporary. The overall vacancy rate in Guangzhou is 11,3% which allows some elasticity in the market (It is possible to find a new or bigger office without too much trouble) In Hong Kong it is currently considered to be a lack of offices and the vacancy rate there is about 5,5%... If you need som more details you can visit Jones Lang LaSelles website and browse around :-)

China's economy is growing at 10 percent each year. So, by the time this building is ready for occupancy, it would have grown by at least 30 percent.

bit of classification for me here please, can twin towers really be different heights or do they then just become two buildings of a similar design??? i know one of the world trade centre had a big antennae on top, but they were the same structural height top floor height etc.

point is can two buildings that are different heights really take petronas' crown as the tallest twins??? if so can we then start to say that burj dubai and some of its neighbouring towers can be called twins even though the designs and heights are different, when the average height is still bigger and the locations are as close?

What this article told us is :

Guangzhou is planning to build the tallest tower in the south east China and the height will exceed 500m. The planning of the tower has started. The height of it is about 530m and there is another building of 400m-500m in the area. The total expenditure is expected to exceed 10billion RMB and they are looking for investors for the project.

From the article I can conclude that one of the twin towers is about 530m and another one is 400-500m, but not sure which one is the 530m one.

ah...lots of ppl asked this question.

One Guangzhou official told the media last month that "Guangzhou already has enough skyscrapers, according to our plan, the East Tower is not very likely to be taller than the West Tower."

However, as the East Tower is not even designed yet, there is no guarantee on the tower's final height.:)

The design of the entrance is a bit dissappointing though.

they look ordinary by today's standards, and they will look ordinary for tomorrow's standards.

But what will never change is that they will always look ordinary. Whereas something that may look spectacularly amazing today, may be regarded as downright ugly tomorrow.

These are buildings that are meant to last lifetimes, you would rather have a building that will look ordinarly everlasting, than a building thats on the fab for a week and visually unbearable for the rest of its existence.

First, the height is at least 450M, not 432M.

Name of project: West Tower, Pearl River New City, Guangzhou, China
Height: 432m
Number of storeys above ground: 104

Can someone fix the thread title? I got all excited when I saw the height, and then I was a little disappointed to find the the actual height is 100 meters shorter. Still, great tower(s).

The east tower must be taller than the west tower, so it should be 500+m which can kick SWFC's ass(492m)... Recently Guangzhou is trying to fight with Shanghai in skyscraper ranking..:bash: lol

I still think they will proceed with the twins. It will look better if it retains its symmetry.

stats update!!
official height of tower- 437.5m (helipad)
roof height-432m
lev100 observation deck-418m
number of floors-103 not 104.
thread title should be changed to reflect this.
looking at most recent construction photo, i would say red line is core and yellow rim of tower.
cheers ;-)

Probably because it's better than normal China quality? (Oooh what a bitch I am :) )

Also if you look at the site photos you'll see that up to now, 95% of the construction effort has been on the basements and setting up the other buildings etc. You should see this start to accelerate soon as the footprint for each floor across the whole site decreases.
