View Full Version : questions about uae
xzmattzx December 27th, 2005, 07:45 PM i have a few questions about the country and the cities in uae. someone directed me to a couple information threads in a thread, and they answered a few questions. i have a few more.
how wide is united arab emirates? it doesn't seem much more than 400 km or so. are there expressways connecting the cities? also, how long and wide are those palm islands? what will be on them: little cities, or residences?
what is the population of uae? what are the populations of various cities in uae?
what does that liwa oasis look like? seems pretty interesting. does it look like your stereotypical oasis, with palm trees and springs and vegetation? what does the desert look like? is it just sand, or were there desert shrubs and whatnot? is it kind of rocky, or just dirt and sand?
thanks for any information you guys give me.

Other forums could answer this better

The last estimation was in 2003 I think and the population was 4 million. There is an offcial census for this year and we will know exactly what is the UAE's exact population.
Here is a table which shows the population for each Emirate (State)

Abu Dhabi ---------- 211812 --- 451848 --- 566036 ---- 942463 --- 1591
Dubai -------------- 183187 --- 276301 ---- 370788 --- 689420 --- 1204
Sharjah ------------ 78790 ---- 159317 ---- 228317 --- 402792 ---- 636
Ajman ------------- 16690 ---- 36100 ----- 54546 ----- 121491 ---- 235
Umm Al-Quwain ---- 6908 ------ 12426 ----- 19285 ----- 35361 ----- 62
Ras Al-Khaimah ---- 43845 ----- 73918 ----- 96578 ----- 143334 --- 195
Fujairah ------------ 16655 ---- 32189 ----- 43753 ----- 76180 ---- 118
Total -------------- 557887 --- 1042099 --- 1379303 --- 2411041 -- 4041

Liwa is basically a place in no where :D
It was an oasis and still where beduins used to settle. It is surrounded by desert in all the directions. Am not sure if it has many palme trees and springs but I know that westerns usually like those stuff.

Skyline-BRN December 27th, 2005, 08:53 PM Hi..I was wondering if anyone can provide a map of how the land of the 7 separate emirates is divided within the UAE?

DUBAI December 27th, 2005, 09:29 PM your map shows hatta in ajman,

smussuw December 27th, 2005, 09:37 PM what r u drinking again? :sly:
Ajman consist of two parts. The southern is its' second part and near Hatta.
DUBAI December 27th, 2005, 09:53 PM Realy?
how did they get the part near hatta.
I remember the sultan gave rashid Hatta as a present.
Oman wanted it back after he died but UAE said NO NO NO!
hense the array of UAE and Dubai flags painted on the mountains around hatta, or should i say HAtta's Jebal's!
smussuw December 27th, 2005, 10:00 PM ^ True, that is what I've heard too. I think Dubai supported Oman in a war against some Omanis in the southern part so we got Hatta as a present.
As u can see on the map, when we go to Dubai/Hatta road we enter Sharjah, Oman, Ajman and then Hatta.
The road goes through Oman, u even can see Oman's petrol station on the road.
go mid east December 27th, 2005, 10:24 PM there is a nice hotel/resort in liwa oasis
DUBAI December 27th, 2005, 10:44 PM ^ True, that is what I've heard too. I think Dubai supported Oman in a war against some Omanis in the southern part so we got Hatta as a present.

They were commies, the UK sent the Royal Marines and the RAF Regiment!
Gorilla December 28th, 2005, 10:22 AM most of the foot solidiers were provided by Iran when Shah had aspirations of being the local policeman of the region! At the time the British organised the defence and persuaded Iran to send soliders to fight.
Saif December 28th, 2005, 11:57 AM ajman has three parts, Ajman, Manamah and Masfoot.
Sharjah has 5 not connected parts, the main part sharjah, Khor Fakkan, Kalba and Island of Seer bu nuair and Island of Abu Musa ( under Iranian occupation)
i made a better map:D
sharjah is yellow,
Ajman is red.
Dubai dark blue
Umm alqywain baby blue

smussuw December 28th, 2005, 05:23 PM ^ the only thing am sure of is that Abu Dhabi supported it.
Dubai didnt and they brought back who is now the ruler of Sharjah.
If Dubai says No everyone shuts up :D
shayan December 28th, 2005, 08:53 PM Sharjah has only 4 parts.

shayan December 29th, 2005, 05:14 PM sharjah, Khor Fakkan, Kalba and Island of Seer bu nuair I only count 4.
smussuw December 29th, 2005, 05:24 PM Diba is the fifth
IRNFUTBOL December 29th, 2005, 05:41 PM i have a question, why does the UAE claim land that isnt theirs and that it doesnt need?
also, what is that little omani enclave bordering the strait of hormuz? how did it get that way? did the UAE invade and take the area connecting it to oman or what?
go mid east December 29th, 2005, 06:56 PM i have a question, why does the UAE claim land that isnt theirs and that it doesnt need?

It is ok shayan, this is what democracy is all about, people have different views.
Now can we go back to the main subject, this isnt the place for ruining threads.
shayan December 29th, 2005, 09:11 PM well anwer why is there a omani enclave??
Shohad December 29th, 2005, 09:14 PM this is what democracy is all about, people have different views.
And how would you know? sorry for the little trolling, it's in a good spirit ;)
smussuw December 29th, 2005, 09:22 PM ^ u can figure whether some one is cauzing trouble or just joking.
well anwer why is there a omani enclave??
Omani and Emirati are the same. Those borders are made up by Britain.
shayan December 29th, 2005, 09:57 PM ow ok.
IRNFUTBOL December 29th, 2005, 10:26 PM ^ u can figure whether some one is cauzing trouble or just joking.
Omani and Emirati are the same. Those borders are made up by Britain.
you still havent answered my question. oman is a different country, i want to know what that little omani enclave is and how it got to be that way. just answer the question, if you cant then have someone else answer it.
smussuw December 29th, 2005, 10:40 PM :weirdo:
IRNFUTBOL December 29th, 2005, 10:43 PM http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/middle_east_and_asia/oman.gif
^^ how did oman get that little land in the north? who is this smussuw guy, is he even from the UAE? why wont you just answer the question.
DUBAI December 29th, 2005, 10:59 PM Who the hell are you?
are you even literate.
as he already he said, oman has this land as this is where the borders were drawn by the british.
losely based upon tribal affiliations, and general british imerialisms.
IRNFUTBOL December 29th, 2005, 11:02 PM all he said was that the british drew it up, nothing more. and i was wondering why the british would draw up borders like that.
so it was a tribal thing, thats all he had to say but obviously he couldnt get it through his thick skull.
man are all you guys this rude and stupid? i asked a simple question.
shayan December 29th, 2005, 11:04 PM afcourse he is literate. That was a really stupid question dude.
DUBAI December 29th, 2005, 11:06 PM your rude and evedently quite stupid.
even an elementry knowlege about brtish imperialism will teach you theat they loved to draw maps, 'divide and concor'.
and freqently gave maps showing different borders to different leaders so that everyone got what they wanted. hence the UAE's largely undefined land borders.
shayan December 29th, 2005, 11:07 PM I had a nother question. Why arent the sheiks wearing crowns??
smussuw December 29th, 2005, 11:07 PM why are we having forumers from no where comming here? :sleepy:
already banned member perhaps? I smell either Shodan or prsn4life. :|
DUBAI December 29th, 2005, 11:08 PM Now go and have a go at the americans fot having alaska. and dont take "we bought it from the russians in exchange for a big bottle of vodka", for an answer!
DUBAI December 29th, 2005, 11:08 PM Angry, Angry people!
It was a valid question though, just asked in an offensive and obnocious manor
shayan December 29th, 2005, 11:11 PM People he just asked something dont get paranoid.
DUBAI December 29th, 2005, 11:14 PM I had a nother question. Why arent the sheiks wearing crowns??
Because real life isnt like hollywood.
shayan December 29th, 2005, 11:18 PM well every other royal family does, so why not the arabian princes??
DUBAI December 29th, 2005, 11:18 PM Where does the green on the UAE flag come from?
shayan December 29th, 2005, 11:20 PM And DUBAI i think you gave a rude anwer. You should learn some manners.
DUBAI December 29th, 2005, 11:22 PM Manners arent learened, they are aquired.
please feel free to highlight the relevent areas.
shayan December 29th, 2005, 11:27 PM well aquire some manners because your way of speaking isnt really inviting and can be seen as offensive. (like the hollywood statement) That actually says that i live in a dream world.
DUBAI December 29th, 2005, 11:36 PM OK, sorry i just write the way thoughts come into my brain. ill try to be more journalistic.
Crowns arent worn by all royal families, the King of Thailand for example.
crowns are normaly worn by leaders seeking to glorify themselves, and solidify the government.
for example the british royal family on wear crowns cerimonialy once or twice a year, as they are stable in there positions. however at the time of the empire they would wear them far more, as they needed to promote the image of the crown, to consolidate and reinfore the rule, establishing a symbol for subjects of the empire to be loyal too.
AltinD December 30th, 2005, 08:51 AM That Hollywood (movie industry) is a DREAM world is a well known and undisputed fact. How can that be offensive to anyone?
AltinD December 30th, 2005, 08:55 AM BTW, Crown is a European Christian thing. No other King or Empirior wore those, unless it was a by-product of the British Empire.
And aren't Iranaians Muslim so they should know the flashing of Gold, wealth and gloryfiing of a person is forbiten in Islam, especially to males? Gee I'm not a muslim and I've learned that.
smussuw December 30th, 2005, 09:19 AM ^ they dont consider themselves as muslims.
DUBAI December 30th, 2005, 10:17 AM BTW, Crown is a European Christian thing. No other King or Empirior wore those, unless it was a by-product of the British Empire.

Crowns were also worn by pacific islanders, and early anthropologists also found a form of crown was also found being worn by African Kings.
shayan December 30th, 2005, 10:44 AM well every persian dinasty had its crowns and that also counts for Turks. Maybe its more a cultural thing:)
AltinD December 30th, 2005, 10:49 AM ^ Turks didn't wear any crown.
