Guys know any major city that doesn't have a skyscraper or any city where the tallest building is only 7 stories high?

I seriously doubt it unless it's completely obscure.

I think 7 stories is too strict!

Anyway, though it has buildings over 7 stories, this city does not have any skyscrapers :)

Nadi? Suva?

Those cities are tiny. Fiji only has a population of 800K

Madrid would have been one a couple years ago but it's finally building tall buildings, and already has a couple talls.

La Defense isn't in the municipality of Paris. And the thread title says skyscrapers plural. Montparnasse is only one building. Semantics... Gotta love 'em!

Washington does have many in the 12-15 range though, even if the tallest is only 96 m that's still something.

I think Vientiane, the sleepy capital of Laos, has a height restriction of 7 storeys.
Recently, I think this year, a company bypassed the restriction by building a midrise on a sandy island in the river. I hate that building!

edit: it's not a very large city, with a population of maybe 500 000

^^^^^^^^ You're right.

I stayed in a hotel/condo under 1km from the Eiffel tower (I think it was called Flathotel). It was about 30-35 floors.

It would be hard to find large cities without ANY highrises (12+ floor buildings). But such very important world city as Geneve has got very few - just 15 such buildings.

Athens has none since the law was introduced (Nothing over 30m (8 storeys) )

The 45 are scattered around.

It depends on what you define as a skyscraper, i don´t think there are any cities without any skyscrapers at all.

Rome has 9

The Rome-data on Emporis is outdated and incomplete.Rome has a lot of highrises ,probably more than 100. I've mailed Emporis in the past with information and pictures but nothing changed. :dunno: It's not that important however because most of those buildings are normal appartment blocks (lacking some beauty and architectural quality). But there are now some interesting modern projects ,they could at least mention those.
