I-275westcoastfl December 29th, 2005, 07:12 AM Maybe some large suburb but its not going to be a major city. vkameleon December 29th, 2005, 07:17 AM paris...? Manila-X December 29th, 2005, 07:19 AM paris...? Paris has Montparnasse, La Defense and of course, The Eiffel Tower. Manila-X December 29th, 2005, 07:21 AM I think 7 stories is too strict! Anyway, though it has buildings over 7 stories, this city does not have any skyscrapers :) Washington DC http://www.phototour.minneapolis.mn.us/pics/3509.jpg another one, San Marino http://www.aerenlund.dk/rimini/san_marino_by.jpg Jay December 29th, 2005, 07:27 AM fiji island's capital maybe? Nadi? Suva? Those cities are tiny. Fiji only has a population of 800K Madrid would have been one a couple years ago but it's finally building tall buildings, and already has a couple talls. Others Mumbai St. Petersburg Prague Berlin Phoenix San diego Barcelona Nouvellecosse December 29th, 2005, 07:30 AM Paris has Montparnasse, La Defense and of course, The Eiffel Tower. La Defense isn't in the municipality of Paris. And the thread title says skyscrapers plural. Montparnasse is only one building. Semantics... Gotta love 'em! spyguy December 29th, 2005, 07:33 AM I think 7 stories is too strict! Anyway, though it has buildings over 7 stories, this city does not have any skyscrapers :) Washington does have many in the 12-15 range though, even if the tallest is only 96 m that's still something. Jo December 29th, 2005, 07:35 AM I think Vientiane, the sleepy capital of Laos, has a height restriction of 7 storeys. Recently, I think this year, a company bypassed the restriction by building a midrise on a sandy island in the river. I hate that building! edit: it's not a very large city, with a population of maybe 500 000 Manila-X December 29th, 2005, 07:37 AM La Defense isn't in the municipality of Paris. I stayed in a hotel/condo under 1km from the Eiffel tower (I think it was called Flathotel). Gatis December 30th, 2005, 03:55 PM It would be hard to find large cities without ANY highrises (12+ floor buildings). But such very important world city as Geneve has got very few - just 15 such buildings. Don't forget to spit off of it Mr Bricks December 30th, 2005, 08:02 PM It depends on what you define as a skyscraper, i don´t think there are any cities without any skyscrapers at all. CAESARS-PALACe December 30th, 2005, 08:20 PM According to Emporis, over 12 floors Rome has 9 The Rome-data on Emporis is outdated and incomplete.Rome has a lot of highrises ,probably more than 100. I've mailed Emporis in the past with information and pictures but nothing changed. :dunno: It's not that important however because most of those buildings are normal appartment blocks (lacking some beauty and architectural quality). But there are now some interesting modern projects ,they could at least mention those. . cphdude December 30th, 2005, 11:54 PM Copenhagne doesnt have that many, and the tallest are in the 80-90 meter range....But i dont know if that can be called a major city... fluffyhorse December 31st, 2005, 08:00 AM I found some cities with no highrises Georgetown- Capital of Guyana 229,600 people Paramaribo- Capital of Suriname 180,000 people Belize City- Capital of Belize 53,915 people Port-au-Prince- Capital of Haiti 743,000 Vientiane- Capital of Laos 528,109 Delhi, India 9,817,439 people + Other Large Indian Cities Muscat- Capital of Oman 622,506 people Katmandu- Capital of Nepal 419,073 people Bishkek- Capital of Kyrgyzstan 585,800 people Mogadishu- Capital of Somalia 982,000 Blantyre- Capital of malawi 446,800 Omdurman- Sudan 1,267,077 Kigali- Capital of Rwanda 219,000 Nouakchott- Capital of Mauritania 550,000 in city Niamey- Capital of Niger 398,265 in city N’Djamena- Capital of chad 687,800 in city Conakry- Capital of Guinea 705,280 Asmara- Capital of Eritrea 359,000 Bangui- Capital of Central African Republic 451,000 With only 2 highrises Managua- Capital of Nicaragua 1,600,666 people |
