ivanhenares July 27th, 2007, 09:40 AM To me, the most interesting one is the Quezon Bridge where Gustav Eiffel (the same guy who built the Eiffel Tower in Paris) was the engineer :)
Maybe not. I was reading Manolo Noche's article on bridges. This is what he says:
"The third to be built spanning the Pasig was the Puente de Convalecencia or better known as the Ayala Bridge, originally composed of two separate spans connected by the Isla de Convalecencia, which is home to Hospisio de San Jose, dropping point for abandoned babies, the bridge over this island was originally made of wooden arched trusses. Completed in 1880, it suffered major structural damage and completely collapsed 10 years later. This was subsequently replaced with a simple metal saw trussed bridge in the last decade of the 19th century, though not significant for its design, its engineer nevertheless is important in the annals of Philippine history, for it was the only bridge that the famed French Engineer by the name of Gustave Eiffel built in the country. This bridge, famous for its engineer or otherwise, similarly didn’t last long and was subsequently replaced."

hakz2007 June 21st, 2010, 12:23 PM Arroyo reopens major bridge in N. Luzon
SISON, Pangasinan – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday opened the newly restored Bued bridge, which was damaged by Bued River’s heavy current during the onslaught of Typhoon “Pepeng” in October last year.
Arroyo, who was accompanied by Public Works Secretary Victor Domingo, said the bridge’s repair was a priority since it is an important link between Northern Luzon and Metro Manila.
Arroyo said the bridge is vital to transport of goods and passengers to and from Northern Luzon.
When the bridge was damaged in October, vehicles going to La Union, the Ilocos provinces and the Cordillera had to take an alternative route passing through San Fabian, Pangasinan, adding more than an hour to the regular travel time to the north.
After the typhoon, a 145.854-meter single lane bridge was installed by the Department of Public Works and Highways on top of the Bued bridge to aid the continuous flow of traffic there.
Arroyo credited the DPWH for finishing the rehabilitation of the bridge within five months. The P120-million repair, which began on Jan. 4 and completed on June 13, was undertaken under the President’s Bridge Program.
Emil Sadain, DPWH assistant secretary for special bridges operations, said sections not damaged by floods were strengthened so the bridge could withstand the strong current in the Bued River during the typhoon season.
After opening the bridge, Ms Arroyo proceeded to Ilocos Sur to attend a gathering of local officials and the birthday celebration of Governor-elect Luis “Chavit” Singson.http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/regions/view/20100621-276813/Arroyo-reopens-major-bridge-in-N-Luzon

hakz2007 June 28th, 2010, 08:05 AM PGMA to open P147-M Iloilo bridge on Monday
CABATUAN, Iloilo, June 27 (PNA) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will inaugurate the newly rehabilitated Tigum Bridge here when she visits the province Monday morning.
The President will lead the marker unveiling and ceremonial drive-through formally opening the bridge to vehicular traffic after a project briefing by Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Victor Domingo.
The Tigum Bridge, which serves as a vital link connecting the central towns of Iloilo to the city proper and which also serves an alternate route to the provinces of Capiz and Aklan, was destroyed when typhoon Frank pummeled the Visayas region in 2008.
Rebuilt and rehabilitated at a cost of P147.65 million, the new Tigum Bridge now consists of six spans of 170-linear meters long pre-stressed concrete girders on bored pile foundation with new approaches.
Joining the President for the project inaugural will be Iloilo Governor Niel Tupas Sr., Iloilo 3rd Dist. Rep. Arthur Defensor, 1st Dist. Rep. Janette Garin, 2nd Dist. Rep. Judy Syjuco, 4th Dist. Rep. Ferj Biron, Cabatuan Mayor Ramon Yee, Tabucan Barangay Chair Nelson Arcos, Banguit Barangay Chair Gary Bibanco, and DPWH 6 Regional Director Rolando Asis. http://www.pna.gov.ph/index.php?idn=0&nid=1&rid=284108
