avicenna December 30th, 2005, 07:13 AM hey shugs i was wondering if you used the knew Imam Khomeni airport? I heard that is nice and really big(much bigger than mehrabad). I was in Iran this summer but never got a chance to visit the place. I know eventually all flights will go there, but to what extent has this happened?
shayan December 30th, 2005, 11:39 AM IKEA is only for regional flights at this momment.
shugs December 30th, 2005, 03:10 PM yeh shayans right only flights within asia r going drom IKEA <hehehe IKEA lol... n e way the problem is its miles out from even the begining of tehran, if u arive at the dead of night itl take a good hour to get to azadi sq... let alone if it was in tehrans insane traffic. i heard some thing about airflot stopping all flights to iran because they were being directed to IKEA and it was a hasstle for their passengers to get into tehran but they stop at mehrabat now... imo i think that IKEA was a waste of money they should have rebuilt mehrabat, IKEA's hardly being used... :ohno:
NorthPole December 30th, 2005, 08:07 PM Why do you trhink 30km from city is to far?
If you say IKIA (with terminal of 4.5 mln pax capacity) is huge comparing to the Mehrabat, Mehrabat seems to be a tiny airport.
Look, Tehran can grow only in SW direction because of mountains on the north and east, so big airport can be built only in SW direction (if you don't want to see airplanes landing almost in the city center): Google map (http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=35.627163,51.370697&spn=0.465529,0.888451&t=k&hl=en) . It's also on the road to Qom and Isfahan.
What about this "regional connections only"? Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imam_Khomeini_International_Airport#AIRLINES) shows some 30 airlines servicing IKIA. Are they all servicing only intraasiatic flights?
And 30km is not so much, because city will approach the airport every year. With good communication (municipal express rail or even metro line) it should take not more than 20-30 minutes to get to the Tehran center (some 50 km).
5 mln pax is really small number (we have 7mln pax with growth 20% this year 10km from Warsaw city center and this is nightmare for metropolitans, so next central international airport for 30-50mln pax is planned some 60km from the city and another one for low-cost airlines is organized some 10km from the city).
BTW, does somebody know what is this (http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=32.778760,51.842422&spn=0.030096,0.055528&t=k&hl=en) circular structure north of Isfahan airport?
shugs December 30th, 2005, 09:13 PM ^^ u get stuck in a traffic jam in tehran and ull know what i mean, n e way itl take a good 1.5hrs to get to my place in tehran so id rather not land there... btw THIS ISNT AN AIRPORT THREAD!!! off topic :sleepy:

prsn41ife January 9th, 2006, 04:01 AM LOL, how fast were you going on some of those pics?
anyway, nice pics, did you take more street level pics??
shugs January 9th, 2006, 04:15 AM  was goin about 120kph. yeh i got a few more street level pics, i got a few i need to scan in as well, didnt really feel comfortable takin pics of stuff in the street with my digicam, ill keep ya posted ;)
prsn41ife January 9th, 2006, 04:37 AM ^^ yea, i wouldnt feel comfortable with a digicam in the middle of a street in tehran either....
anyway, please post right away, i still got 2 hours before i have to go to sleep for school tomorrow.
Gilgamesh January 9th, 2006, 09:13 AM Very nice shugs, it's a good thing you finally resized them. :D
And btw, I walked around with a digicam in Tehran.
avicenna January 10th, 2006, 12:14 AM I also don't see the problem with digicam's. Wut are u guys talking about?
Me and my relatives took pics all the time, not only in tehran, but everywhere in Iran. No problem. Quit giving false impressions if you have not been to Iran for several years.
shugs January 10th, 2006, 01:23 AM woa sorry, i thought this thread was called MY trip to iran 2005!!! all im sayin is that pretty much every time i went out in the day i ended up at bazaar tehran at some point and u kno the reputation it has for pick pockets. I felt uncomfortable taking pics with my DIGICAM not with a regular camera, if my digicam gets stolen i would not b able to buy a new one for some time, so please dont twist my words or make assumptions... im being confrontational again arent i ... sry :D
avicenna January 10th, 2006, 02:22 AM No problem, oh, well i understand the crowded bazaar.
But Tehran has had a reputation as a safe city......but that is changing.
Gilgamesh January 10th, 2006, 11:04 AM I just said I walked around with my digicam, not that I feelt safe doing it. :D
Sorry for going off-topic shugs. you got any more pics?
Vasya Pupkin January 16th, 2006, 09:12 PM Just get a cellphone with a camera in it. But they are usually of lower quality.
J_H_ January 18th, 2006, 08:40 PM Do it like me. I had a classic film kamera Nikon, with huge objectiv, and tripod. it seem so heavy, that nobody dare to catch and run with it.
shugs January 18th, 2006, 10:25 PM  like the method. welcome to the ssc btw, khosh amadi :D
