It is good to get a meccadam road in thrissur high road, but without 4 laning to proper width it could be wasted.this road was notorious for accidents once, now there isnt that much because of the heavy traffic.so what happens when it gets super smooth accidents could increase. First ollur junction onnu veluppichedukkanam..akkara, delite, sreebhavan oke pokum?

true, the corporation has to rehabilitate them by constructing a shopping complex, like the bell-mouth ,there.

what vivek said is absolutely correct. There has been no real development in Thrissur for more than a decade.Only private realtors are active in Thrissur. What the last government did was also only cosmetic(renovating the pavements etc).

In a way true. The only change is apartments and Silk Showrooms. The main focus which is infrastructure in the form of broad roads ,working traffic signals ,garbage disposal ,city bus services are desperately awaited. Hope that happens soon. Good broad roads changes the city's outlook in general especially from the highway to the CBD.What we need is a bypass so that all vehicles going towards Kochi or Coimbatore side do not have to come to Punkunnam and Paturaickal creating chaos near Paturaickal and Ashwini junction. Initially there was no proposal at all to build a circle at Ashwini junction. The hospital wanted to install just traffic lights there but as usual the corporation refused to cooperate . So the hospital decided to go for a circle but I doubt if they had much say in its planning. The circle was too big and there was hardly any space around it creating human created traffic jam. Is it true that the newly installed fancy traffic lights will be switched off till roads are widened? That will be the biggest mistake. Once they switch them off they will catch rust and the whole process will carry on again ....someone will make money in all this. This is exactly what happened to all the traffic lights that were insatalled all over the city several years ago. They functioned for few months and that was the last we saw of those blue painted lights!

Town has got too many police women in everywhere, but half of them are really of no use. Punkunnam junction has got 6 or 7 of them, pakshe block ellam pazhaya pole.:bash:

They just stand at one corner but I have full respect for them . If they stand in the middle they will get run over...have no doubt about that. When they built the Punkunnam Paturaickal flyover several years ago there were some people with insight who suggested that the flyover be extended over paturaickal junction but sadly that was not done then due to financial issues. Not sure if it could done now ....extend flyover over Patutraickal and Ashwini junction.

as fast said, I too concerned about paying the amount Rs.2700/tonne to the company. does have our corporation has that much financial strength? The result , arrears to the company will increase and it will create another legal war between the company and corporation. See our corporation is the corporation which does not have capacity to do the compensation to the land owners which are to be rehabilitated. At this juncture, this movement will lead to another financial crisis. However it will give little relief to the waste disposal temporarily. Let us hope so.

Mannuthy-Amalanagar is the phase 1 project.. But I dont know its current status. This project starts from Mannuthy and reaches Amalanagar via Thanikkudam, Madakkathara etc. Through this way the vehicle coming from calicut side can easily approach Mannuth in NH47 with out entering into CBD. I think the phase 1 foundation stone has been laid. The next phase Vatanappilly-Amalanagar is under planning stage. So when both phases are implemented the vehicles from NH17 can reach the NH47 easily.Initially there was no proposal at all to build a circle at Ashwini junction. Ofcourse this shows our mayors lack of vision in development. As you mentioned, when the signals are switched off it will keep with rust. And in order to re-install them another crores have to be spent.

If it has been implmented after widening the roads, then there won't have trouble to anybody. Instead, first signals have been placed with out widening the roads or evaquating the encroachment. this invited the angry from the public, who is already concern about the pathetic waste disposal system and narrow roads.

yeah, private projects are coming in its own way. another project of malabar group is coming at byepass. But the government projects are not implementing fastly. that is the problem. Delay of the implementation of zoological park, science city, the four laning of punkunnam-kaipparambu section , the city bus network system, waste disposal system, etc are examples

Today, I could see some papers mentioning "Railway Project for Thrissur in Rapid Speed" and below that it's mentioned about some survey from Chalakudy section.

Thrissur has lots on papers... It's People in Thrissur and our Corporations who needs to push such State and Central Government projects. We have Lack administration in our City Corporation even after our recent election. They have to put priorities on the projects like four laning all major roads in Thrissur... Not none of them are done. Only one good thing is Preparing Master Plan.

she did something compared to this lazy mayor. i am not speaking politics. what will happen, when this corporation follows up with the budget proposal to construct Kokkalai fly over project, made by the last government, to build Kokkalai flyover? similary the decentralisation scheme of waste disposal of the previous counsel is torpidoed by the present counsel. Actually this counsel does not have plan or vision, how to improve the life of every thrissurkar. Now the after 6months , the present counsel is unable to handle waste disposal. Instead, they are giving rs.2700 per tonne. When we calculate this will come near to crores , which has to be paid to private firm by corporation. Everyone is afraid about land acquisition in order to increase the width of the road. If so, why should there have a government machinery such as corporation/municipality/panchayath?

everyone is frustrated due to the lack of development here aslesh. From the previous years, no new developments have been done here. If you come here now and come after 2years , there won't be any noticeable difference in city.
No road widening is taking place here. According to Vivek, the much expected Paramekkavu-Kuttippuram four lane project is temporarily halted due to the lack of fund. No news regarding science city, innovative university which is a world class one. As Vinod said, all the projects are in the papers only.

When you come to Railway, you can see another gimmick regarding fourth platform and number of projects which are in paper.

So all people are frustrated here.

Ofcourse, private enterpraneurs do creative role now. that is only thing taking place here.

Private agency begins removal of garbage

STAFF REPORTER

Work contracted out to Salem-based company
The Thrissur Corporation Council meeting on Monday gave the green signal to a Salem-based company to remove the accumulated garbage from the city.

According to the tender conditions, the company will remove 400 tonnes of waste in a week at the rate of Rs. 2,700 per tonne. It should remove the garbage at its own responsibility.

The garbage removal began from the city as the council approved the tender. However, there were apprehensions against the move. Many Councillors raised the suspicion whether there would be 400 tonnes of garbage in the city.

Mayor I.P. Paul said the accumulated garbage from Lalur would also be removed by the company if the garbage in the city was less than the contracted quantity.

The Suchitwa Mission had allotted Rs. 1 crore for removing garbage from the Lalur dumping yard.

“Two health officials will monitor weighing of garbage. Computerised weighing machines will be used for the purpose. If the accumulated garbage in the city was not 400 tonne, the garbage from Lalur will be added to it,” the Mayor said.

However, the CPI councillors opposed the tender alleging lack of transparency in the tender procedures.

Yes We need Commercial Four Lane Roads in Ollur too... Making it a Better place to live in. Similarly Ollur Railway Station is Equal to Thrissur South Railway Station which needs to be developed as good as Current Thrissur Railway Station which helps to distribute the crowd.

maheshponneth
August 2nd, 2012, 04:58 AM
definitely, vinod. In my opinion, the Ollur station should be converted an important goods station by acquiring near by lands. Shift all goods trains to this station and the merchants should take their luggages from this station only. Since Ollur is commercial hub in city , this can boost the development activities in south thrissur. Moreover , as you mentioned, destribution of crowd can also take place.

Similarly the punkunnam station should be raised to the satellite station (like ernakulam north)so that more trains should have stops there. This leads to the development of northern part of city.

Making it an important goods station has a lot of benefits,it is more easy to transport to various places 4 lane nh is available in less than 2 km unlike thrissur. Also the the city could breathe a lot more easier. As mahesh bhai pointed out- it is fairly easy to acquire those paddy fields.

I don't see any plan for such things. Any government Left or Right in Thrissur just wants to put some cosmetic changes and tries to win every alternate elections :D ....

I have seen Discussion in Thrissur during elections most people in Thrissur speaks about politics and not development. For them Thrissur is Developed for their needs. We need to change this mind set and should start questioning for genuine development.

Ollur should also have a Big Bus Station. Thrissur can't live with one mobility Hub. This City demands for Three huge Bus Stations "Ollur, Puzhakal and Mannutty" This should be in equal priority to four-laning.

Three Major railway stations Punkunnam, Thrissur and Ollur also needs to be developed.

I am sure , this will facilitate to construct more platforms.
Similarly Railways have to purchase the paddy fields south of the Vanchikkulam area. Currently they are the properties of developers. These have to be purchased at any cost and utilise for the railway developments. This area can be utilized for halting trains. Thus thrissur station can be converted to a terminal station.

Menace of garbage threatens State’s progress, says Minister

New plant

Mr. Babu said that the State’s first ultra modern waste treatment plant would come up at Brahmapuram shortly. Similar plants will be set up in Kozhikode, Thrissur, and Thiruvananthapuram. The government is on the lookout for ways to generate fertilizer and gas from waste.

Apart from centralised and decentralised treatment of waste at the source of generation, the government is also considering more stringent rules in this regard. People should be alert to those dumping waste at public places. The government has proposed severe punishment for such offenders.

The Minister hoped that coastal areas would become clean with the implementation of the Suchithwatheeram project by the fisheries department. Subsidy worth Rs.20,000 will be given for building toilets under the project.

District panchayat president Eldhose Kunnappillil presided over the function. Benny Behanan, MLA, inaugurated the exhibition of waste treatment systems. District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed explained the district-level programmes as part of the complete sanitation mission. Thrikkakara municipal chairman P.I. Mohammadali and district panchayat vice-president Bindu George were among those present.

Any Plan for one of the biggest Junctions in Kerala Cities "Thrissur WEST FORT".

When the proposed Roads becomes Four laned (Colored in Yellow and Red). This Junction will be every difficult to manage.. So Government should think about a suitable innovative flyover like the Round about fly over in Coimbatore which gives enough traffic bandwidth on the flyover and below.

A hi-tech solution to cut railway station queues

The Southern Railway (SR) divisional office here is planning to set up automatic ticket vending machines at the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station soon. The move is expected to cut the long queues in front of ticket counters at the station.

According to the official, after Thiruvananthapuram Central, the facility would be introduced at Ernakulam and Thrissur railway stations.

"In the initial stage, we will post an official with a smart card near the machine to help the passengers. Once the public familiarizes with the system, the smart cards will be made available for all. Southern Railway is planning to launch the facility within two months, which at the moment is only employed at its Chennai suburban system," the official said.

He added that if found successful, the facility would be made available at all stations in the state.

The ticket vending machines which employ technology similar to ATMs will help passengers book tickets using prepaid smart cards

Phase I of road widening project to be completed next year

The first phase of a four-lane road project involving upgrading of the 12-km stretch from Puzhakkal to Kaiparambu junction (State Highway 69) is likely to be completed next year.

“Efforts are being made to avoid any delay in road works,” said K.D. Ashokan, assistant executive engineer, Public Works Department.

The project includes turning the 19.5-km State Highway from Paramekkavu Bhagavathi Temple to Choondal Junction into a 15.5 metre four-lane road.

The road stretches along the Chembukkavu junction, Aswini junction, Paturaikkal junction, Pookunnam junction, Puzhakkal road, Mundur junction and Kaiparambu junction.

Land unavailable

“The stretch from Mundur junction will be changed only to a three-lane one because land for widening is not available,” said Sunil Dutt, PWD overseer.

Road works at the Puzhakkal-Mundur-Kaiparambu stretch are progressing, added Mr. Dutt.

An amount of Rs.34 crore has been sanctioned by the State government for the project. A Kochi-based contractor has undertaken the work.

“The second phase of the project will include large-scale land acquisition. The procedures will start only after the first phase,” said Mr. Ashokan.

Repair of city roads

The Public Works Department has also undertaken a project to repair 11 major corporation roads.

The project includes re-tarring of roads, renovation of footpath and drainage works.

“All the major corporation roads in the city will be reconstructed by March 2013. By September, tiles will be laid and drainage work completed,” said PWD assistant engineer E.I. Sajith

The 11 major corporation roads include Father Vadakkan Road, TB Road (to Kokkala Junction), KSRTC Road, road from Poothole to West Fort junction, Karunakaran Nambiar Road, road from PWD Rest House Junction to St. Thomas College Junction, Nellikkunnu Road, Bishop Palace Road, road from West Fort Junction to Poonkunnam Junction.\

TRAFFIC CONGESTION TRIGGERS CHAOS IN THE CITY

By Anjaly Satheesh

THRISSUR city is becoming a menace to commuters as well as drivers owing to huge traffic congestions especially during peak hours.
The city witnessed huge traffic blocks at major junctions of the town yesterday. As Onam is at the door step, traffic jam has worsened in the last couple of days and traffic police is trying hard to ease the passage.
“Numerous important functions are being held here and the Onam- Ramzan festival totally makes the city busy hence traffic movement becomes difficult,” said Traffic officials.
“Passengers often alight from vehicles and walk to reach their destinations. Number of trips has been reduced due to this block,” VK Shaji, an auto driver said.
Ravikumar, a native of Poonkunnam said, as all vehicles are diverted when processions begin near Swaraj Round he experienced hours of traffic burden between West Fort and Poonkunnam.
East Fort, Aswini Junction, M G Road and Punkunnam Junction are the major junctions witnessing traffic congestions.

COMMISSIONING OF PF NO 4 IN THRISSUR

Thrissur Railway Passengers’ Association (TRPA) informed that train no: 56605 Coimbatore – Thrissur Passenger will be received in PF No 4 of Thrissur station from yesterday onwards and accordingly train no: 56603 Thrissur – Kannur Passenger will begin its journey from this platform from today onwards. The railway is planning to receive all the passenger trains in PF No.4, subsequently.

Railways have decided to develop one more platform in Thrissur. But the proposed PF No.4 is not yet ready to receive passenger trains. Sufficient lighting and minimum shelter are yet to come up in this platform. It is nothing more than a bare, island platform without any proper access, at present.

As such receiving passenger trains in this platform without completing the basic facilities and access will be against the interest of passenger safety.

If any unfortunate incident happens, the railways will be held responsible.
In the light of the above, the association requested the divisional manager to kindly intervene in this matter and issue necessary orders to postpone the commissioning of PF No. 4 till at least the basic requirements like staircase and lighting are completed.:bash::bash::bash::bash:

REJUVENATION FOR THRISSUR DISTRICT RIFLE ASSOCIATION

http://cityjournal.in/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/karni-singh_630.jpg

By Sijo Joseph

The District Rifle Association Thrissur, established in 1976, was weak till Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra won a gold medal at the last Olympics in China.
The club was in a pitiable condition as it did not have its own shooting range, office, guns or ammunitions. These reasons had led to the slow disintegration of the association.
A meeting chaired by the district collector PM Francis and Thrissur city police commissioner P Vijayan decided to revive the club.
Shooting practice requires at least 10 metre shooting range. Apart from the shooting range at Christ College, Irinjalakuda there are no shooting ranges in the district. District police commissioner P Vijayan then said he would check the possibility of arranging a temporary shooting range at Ramavarmapuram till the association gets a permanent facility, but these words still need to be fulfilled.
Shooting is the event for which most number of participants represent India at the Olympics. 14 berths are reserved for India in shooting but there is no one from Kerala.
What’s even more worrying is that there is no representation from the district for shooting competitions at the state and national level competitions as well.
Expectations are high that Thrissur will be better represented at competitions with the revival of shooting camps. Students have also been made eligible for up to 15 marks as grace marks if they win state or national level competitions.
The association is not yet recognised by the state rifle association. But now, they are reviving the association and inviting people to join. The association is charging a small amount of money as admission charges and Kerala State Rifle Association fee during the joining.

An air rifle shooting camp for students will be launched during the Onam vacation. Naijo Jacob, who plays a major role in the revival of the association, told City Journal that the Kerala State Rifle Association will recognise the district association within one week. “Only after this process, certificates valid by the state rifle association can be issued to children,” he said.
He added that the recognition of the state rifle association is a must to get an entry to the Shooting Sports Foundation India run by vice-president of National Rifle Association of India and Dronacharya Award winner Prof Sunny Thomas.

National Games, WORKS STILL SLOW PROGRESS

:bash::bash::bash::bash::bash:

http://cityjournal.in/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/H-143.jpg

As the National Games is at the door step, renovations of various sports centres in the district where some of the games are scheduled have reached nowhere. Thrissur district will host games such as judo, weightlifting, boxing and women football.
It was decided to conduct shooting competitions in Police Academy, Thrissur but has changed its venue to Thiruvananthapuram due to alleged vested interest of some people.

Judo and weightlifting will be conducted in VKN Menon Indoor Stadium and women football competition at Corporation stadium.

Boxing that was planned to conduct in the indoor stadium has now been shifted to Thriprayar but the national games authorities received no official information in this respect.

District Sports Council President Igni Mathew had informed earlier that they had handed over the indoor stadium to the games authorities in 2007.
The government allotted `3.9 crore for the renovation works at the corporation stadium as the first stage and the works were planned to end in 2011. Though the works had resumed 3 years ago, it has not reached anywhere. The renovation works at room, bathroom, VIP room, conference hall and media centre are on the list of the works.

It is alleged that the company that was entrusted with the contract for renovation was changed to another was the main reason for the slow development of works.

It is also noted that no works at the corporation stadium has begun so far.

It was in 1981 VKN Menon Indoor stadium was built under the guidance of sports council by spending 22 lakhs. It was then the first ever indoor stadium that was built by any district sports council in India.

Allegation follows that erstwhile councils failed to look after the stadiums well and the leaders of the followed councils have no relation with the sports but reached there by the political influences. The political rivalry many times hindered the works.

The sports council members alleged the lack of sufficient fund for the renovation is the main reason for the pitiable condition of organisations. In other districts they are receiving fee for the entry if any games are going on unlike in the district.

They demanded a committee headed by district collector is needed for the timely renovation at such places. The corporation is also needed to be included in the committee. These people also have anxiety for the success of the coming national games in the state.
It was three years ago that the declaration of the Kerala’s hosting of national games been declared but the authorities have not opened their eyes till now. The games are scheduled on the last of 2012 but as per the latest information NG’s are postponed to the last of 2013.
Thrissur, Thiruvananthapuram, Calicut, Alappuzha, Cochi and Kollam were selected for the national games and had allotted `612crore for the works in this respect. It is also alleged that there are no correct record for the money spent for the works so far.

I too admit your opinion. But nobody is raising the voice. When there is somebody to raise the voice, the authorities will be forced to act. For example, in the last two days there were agitations taking place at Kuthiran to re-tar the existing NH. As a result, the CM gave the orders to fill the potholes of the road. But the people and organizations are not raising and co-operating with the road widening projects in Kerala. It is one side of the coin. When Raju Narayanswamy started the road widening, some political organizations compelled the state govt to transfer him to other place.

Nowadays the so called organizations such as residence associations etc are working for namesake. Each residence organizations should raise the voice for the road development and waste disposal in their area. But we make noise for unwanted things. that is happening here. This is not only in thrissur, but also in entire kerala.

I will decide what to build on my land right ? can a corporation or any such bodies decide that. I don't think so.

One thing is there if such good quality roads come up , definitely it will see a commercial make over in some period of time.

lots of example available in kochi city and all, say like Panampilly Nagar, kochi

very good road though :)

Manjilas eyes 500-cr revenue by fiscal 2015

KOCHI: Manjilas Group, the manufacturer of 'Double Horse' brand of Kerala ethnic foods, is setting up three new plants to ramp up production, targeting revenues of Rs 500 crore by fiscal 2014 - 2015, said Sajive Manjila, managing director of the group. Two plants are under construction in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, and the third one is being set up in Thrissur.

"The first plant in Pollachi, to be operational by January, will manufacture wheat-based products like atta, Samba wheat broken, Samba wheat rava, and roasted rava. Investment in this plant will be Rs 2 crore," said Manjila. "We are planning to invest Rs 12 crore in the second unit there, which will produce rice products like puttu powder, palappam mix and payasam mix. The plant will be operational in 2014," he noted. The group has completed the plant in Thrissur, with an investment of Rs 3 crore. "This unit will make ready-to-eat products," Manjila said. The company, which recorded revenues of Rs 150 crore last fiscal, is targeting Rs 200 crore this year. Looking at the quantity of the produce, 70% of the products are sold in Kerala, while 30% is exported and the remaining part is sold in other states.

The Middle East, US, Western Europe, and Australia are the major export markets of the company, Manjila said.

Manjila believes that 'convenient products' or ready-to-eat versions of the ethnic Kerala foods will overtake the sales of traditional Kerala products. "The company is producing easy-to-prepare ingredients like garlic paste and ready-to-prepare mixes for sambar and chicken curry. C

"Currently these constitute only 30% of our total sales volume, but would eventually outgrow the traditional mixes and flours," he said. The company is also planning to start marketing chips in June. "Currently, our chips are fully exported," Manjila said.

The company is consolidating its small units in Thrissur and would retain four bigger units in the district to produce spices, pickles, rice, and rice powders.
Actress Shobana launched the company's ready-to-eat payasam mix on Thursday in Kochi.

Why you need a Building Approval from Corporation ?
Corporation has all rights to permit or deny the type/style of Building by looks at the prepared master plan..

This is how you create a well planned city...

Vinod, the commercial buildings are coming on the side of model road. If u go from Alukkas castle towards north, one side(ie western side) is filled with government offices and eastern side is filled with commercial establishments. please go there. This is upto Ground jn.
From west fort to Collectorate, the land which is opposite to NSS is of best bakers(old bajaj's land). But they have not constructed the building till now. But as you mentioned, some more commercial establishments have to come in this section and the section between Ground and Toyota jn.

enthinanavo? It must be four laned. Otherwise no use at all. I heard that the main culprits who are objecting the road development is the people who are staying there. Some of them are "cash teams", who have influence in the government also. So in order to develop this road and Ollur junction first of all the rigidity of people should be changed.:bash::bash:

Heavy traffic congestion in city as Onam nears

see the link
http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-kerala/article3797854.ece

Unscientific traffic regulations, scant respect to road rules and rampant encroachments on footpaths and roads make driving a tiring experience in the city.

As the city is gearing up for the Onam festivities, people are thronging the streets and fairs in large numbers. The perennial traffic congestion at the KSRTC Junction is a perfect example for unscientific traffic regulation. The area has been witnessing the messy traffic situation for years together without any let up.

To ease the traffic block, the authorities introduced a regulation some months back.

All vehicles coming from Kokkala, including buses from Kodungallur, Irinjalakkuda and Ollur route, have to take a round of the KSRTC stand before entering to Chettiyangadi and Swaraj Round.

“The effort was to decongest 200-m-long stretch between KSRTC Junction and the Chettiyangadi. In effect, the current traffic regulation is creating a hectic block for almost 2 km - right from Kokkala to West Fort,” says Ajith Kumar, a shop owner in the area.

The passengers on the Thrissur-Kunnamkulam-Kozhikode route have to bear the brunt of this traffic block. With intervention of the authorities the gap between bus services in this route, notorious for over-speeding buses, was increased.

The bus operators now complain that the traffic block has been destabilising their time schedule. Absence of footpaths for pedestrians is complicating the traffic chaos. People complain that crossing the road in front of the KSRTC bus stand has become too dangerous. A bus stop on the road adds to chaos.

Thrissur is the only city from india which dosent have IT & IT Enabled Services in the EMERGING KERALA PROFILE

WHY ???????????????

true. thrissur is always neglected in several industrial projects. As you mentioned thrissur city does not have IT or Kinfra parks. There is plot of Kinfra in Puzhakkal, but nothing is implemented there. It is highly shame, actually. After Karunakaran, there is no leaders who work for thrissur city. In the case of INKEL projects the entire thrissur district is neglected. you can see the word "thrissur" there rarely. It's our fate, nothing else.
Thrissur is always called as city for education. But no knowledge city , no educity, here.

CONGESTION AND OVER SPEED; ATHANI JUNCTION SEEKS DIVIDER

Staff Reporter

Since the commuters face threat of mishaps following speedy vehicles in the road, local people as well as various organizations have come up demanding the construction of divider at the Athani junction.

Consumer Protection Samiti speedy vehicles and narrow road at the junction created threat of accidents at the area and they urged immediate construction of divider at the road.

“Athani is the main centre for the commuters to C.MET, Silk, Industrial estate, Elite company, Yamuna flower mills, ESI, Hospital, Kundukulam, HIV treatment centre Snehalayam, Pop Paul Mercy home and JMJ school. Over speed of vehicles in this route makes the situation more dangerous,” said Consumer protection Samiti president Viswanathan at a press conference yesterday.

The Samiti also alleged that some lobbies are playing behind the panchayat to hinder the construction of the divider.

“Even though we got High court directive for constructing a divider with 780 meter length, the panchayath showed reluctance to start the works,” said the Samiti president.

“National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) had recommended a divider in Athani road in a length of 1200 meter. Since the work faced standstill following congested roads, Panchayath had come up with a proposal of constructing a divider in a length of 780 meters when the High court asked to construct a divider there. But the same Panchayath board now stand against the divider,” alleged Samiti president. He also added that though the construction works of drainage began in that route, the allocated fund from the authorities concerned was misused despite the work remain incomplete.

The Saimiti also criticized that the PWD was careless while constructing the drainages as the concrete was mixing on the tarred road which resulted in damaging the road.

When asked the Mundathikkodu panchayath president Ajithkumar said, “Panchayath will construct a divider as per the NATPAC recommendations if the government gives nod to it. Not only that in order to construct a divider of 1200 meter as per the NATPAC reports, land has to be taken from the shop owners from public which can invite wide protest against this.” He also added that the Athani road is 12 meter width now on which a divider would make traffic problem, if constructed.

Two aerospace projects listed

Two aerospace projects — Aeronautical Material Testing Laboratory (AMTL) at Athani in Thrissur district and Aerospace Park at Kadinamkulam here — will be showcased at the forthcoming Emerging Kerala meet commencing in Kochi from September 12.

These projects figure under the category Airport/Infrastructure and Aeroplane/Helicopter Services. The profiles of the two projects have been finalised.

The AMTL has been proposed by Steel and Industrial Forgings Ltd. (SIFL), an ISO 9001:2008 certified public sector undertaking. SIFL had forged ahead to become masters in titanium and special alloy forgings.

The Aerospace Park has been featured by the District Industries Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.

The Aerospace Park has been proposed taking into account the precision component manufacturers in adjoining Veli industrial belt who are suppliers to ISRO and Brahmos. The area identified for setting up the aerospace park is close to Kinfra and Veli industrial estates, VSSC, Brahmos, and Maintenance Overhaul Facility (MRO) of Air India.

The project profile prepared for the aerospace park says it can be developed in the public private partnership (PPP) model with land on lease by the government. It has also been suggested that industrial bodies/associations can be partnered for the project.

The AMTL has been proposed as part of the plan to leapfrog the SIFL into the lucrative and exclusive aerospace sector. It has been pointed out that such advanced facilities are available only at VSSC and DRDC and these are mainly used for in-house testing.

Establishment of ATML in Thrissur would make SIFL a one-stop station for aerospace forgings and also give a fillip to the much-needed R&D activity.

Besides attracting companies like Jaguar, Boeing/Airbus, the ATML will also be able to train aeronautical engineering students from institutes inside and outside the country.

It has been pointed out 9.58 hectares of land is available for setting up the laboratory. The plant and machinery is estimated to cost Rs.65 crore and a manpower of 60 is needed for the laboratory.

MEMU services to roll out in Thrissur

MEMU (Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit) services for the Thrissur sector will be introduced after work on electrifying the Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil section is completed, said Rajesh Agarwal, Thiruvananthapuram Railway Divisional Manager.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 55th meeting of the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee here on Wednesday, he said tender procedures have been initiated for renovating the fourth platform of the Thrissur railway station.

Landing for overbridge

“Once work is assigned to a contractor, it may be completed within two months. Construction of a landing from the overbridge will solve problems faced by passengers on the fourth platform,” he said. Possible measures to improve conditions of railway stations were discussed at the meeting. “Station Improvement Groups have been asked to review amenities for passengers every month.”

He said the Railways has taken comprehensive steps to better the quality of catering services by monitoring the functioning of pantry cars, kitchens in railway stations, and units that supply food.

“Those who serve food on trains have been asked to carry bags to collect leftover food and waste. The garbage will be deposited at locations identified by the Railways and treated,” he said.

The Railways has sought the support of the State government to extend or raise rail platforms and start ticket reservation counters outside railway stations.

Ollur and Pukunnam are required as City Stations in future. Pudukad will be a very good option in my opinion.

Don't look at Current Ollur development... It has a high chance to develop into a next City HUB if we provide equal road/facility infrastructure matching to other City areas...

I would also Ask to include Amala Nagar into consideration as it is not in the main heavy traffic Cochin - Shornur route and have space to develop. Very close to Pullazhi and Puzhakkal rice fields...

thankal paranjathu correct aanu hari bhai. please look at statement regarding the road development. Only strengthening of the road, not widening or developing the roads. for this, there is no need of emerging kerala, a local body can d o that. For the four laning of shoranur road from Patturaikkal and Mannuthy road from East Fort only few land acquisition is needed. But it won't be implemented.

The important project is the restructuring sakthan market. But we are hearing this years and years. The Enarc made the plan also. But corporation did not implement it.

I will say that there is nothing for thrissur district apart from some modifcations, which are used to clean faces of our cheap and useless leaders.

But majority projects are there in Kochi. In thrissur district there are only 2 projects. one is at Madakkathara and other is at Poyya near Mala. In madakkathara it is Jwellery and Gem construction units as a part of NIMZ.
The other projects are in Palakkad.

Do u think HSR will be implemented? if so, it is going through the other districts also.

Very true...

Sorry to say this repeatedly. Thrissur is not given the importance from the Government which it should have
