Ventspils City (or town?) at the end of November organised international tender on development of one of the central plazas in the city.
Winner was German Behnisch, Behnisch&partners - they even put their winning project in the intro page of their Webpage www.behnisch.com
Among the other solutions on this large area they proposed also concert hall - central building in this area.
Among the competitors there were 9 tteams of architects - our own stars and also foreigners (including Egeraat)

Here come three pictures of their proposal for concert hall:
Side view. I have feeling that something is wrong with the scale here.

Concert hall is not that large - for 700 people. Although exact details are not known, it is clear that it will be built in few coming years time - Ventspils municipality is working as a Swiss clock.

Meanwhile the preparations for Liepaja Concert hall is actively on-going:

The old Soviet time cinema building has been demolished. Here the picture of this building (so many movies seen there myself)

Contract about the detailed design of this building has been concluded (with Austrian architect Volker Giencke) and this year there will start 14 mio EUR investment to build it.

I probably like the one in Ventspils more too, though it's quite hard to understand that project. :)

Spirituallly chaotic is right!

We have exactly the same reaction to that project, vanniken: the place looks like a rocket launch pad, and the roof is a total mess. Don't those people realize ithat there is rain & snow in Latvia every once in a while? :bash:

Why wouldn't it be suitable for such weather?

Just take a look at it. Have you thought of the runoff problems?

Well presumably the architects themselves will have given that some thought, but if not then "Oh dear".

Right! :D On the other hand, now that I look at these pix again I gather that some of those lines may indicate a somewhat oddly shaped reflecting pool that sort of cascades down & has a fountain at the upper end.

And what about accoustic quality in this thingie? It is supposed to be concert hall right? With all those sharp angles and rooftops it seems quite ... eeh... eeh... ANTI accoustic :D

The way takes something about 4-5 h.
The link operator is Saaremaa Laevakompanii
So i hope that iŽl get so to the Venspils (one day).

Yeah - good quashion, i remeber what was heppened with Sidnay Opera Hall -
100% landmark ...and absolute 0 (zero) in sence of normal acustic copability.

Hm...but sometimes first is more useful :)
