kampflamm, how can you let on that a sachsenhausen legend is being savaged this way, without providing background information about the original purpose of this building? (ie a corn attic).

Some information about the Henninger Turm:

The Henninger Turm (tower) is a grain storage silo located in the Frankfurt district of Sachsenhausen. It is owned by the Henninger brewery and has a storage capacity of 16,000 tons of barley. The 120 metre, 33-story high tower was designed by Karl Lieser and was built from 1959 to 1961. Its was inaugurated on May 18, 1961.

The Henninger Tower has two rotating restaurants at the height of 101 and 106 metres and an open-air observation deck at the height of 110 metres. The tower has been closed to the public since October 31, 2002. Plans to destroy the tower and replace it with a new one were abandoned.

Since 1961 every year on May 1 the professional cycling race "Rund um den Henninger Turm" is held with a course circling the tower multiple times.

In January 2005, new plans were unveiled for a conversion of this landmark into residential towers. This includes construction of three 12-story towers, an 85-meter, 20-story tower, several hundred apartments in lowrise buildings, office space, service facilities, and a hotel.

I'm sorry. Maybe I should post pics of the Holiday Inn? Ahh, the memories of a summer in Sachsenhausen...

I love the view from its observation deck for making photos of the skyline in the 90s , the interior with wood claddings in a strange early 60s style in the restaurant , and the open air deck above . So sad that it is closed . But I like the building , 8/10.

By the weh: Awesome tower. If I could vote 100/10, I'd do it in a second. But since I don't want to fälsch the statistics, I'm fine with 9.5/10. Oy?

Did the renovation start already? They plan to make it a little bit less ugly. But not too much or the real Frankfurters will complain. It's supposed to be some kind of cultural heritage building.
