I think Iran is due for some new stadiums. These staduims have a very old design, but nice. This Azadi stadium is a giant. Imagine playing there as a visiting team..ouch. It just looks so intimidating and massive.

Some of these stadiums are architecturally quite nice, but are they all necessary? I mean, do places like Arak and Kashan need stadiums when the state of medical infrastructure in both towns is in need of improvement?

Don't get me wrong, I think that stadiums are nice to have, but only after basic infrastructure is established in a town. It's kind of like after the Iran-Iraq War when the first thing they rebuilt in Abadan were a dozen mosques rather than let's say, hospitals and schools.

I think you maybe thinking of Thailand and South Korea. Actually, Japan was pretty much "the China" of the 1970s - i.e. double-digit economic growth rates. It continued to grow well into the 1980s but by 1990, the bubble burst. The Iran-Iraq War ended in 1988 and Japan was at the end of its economic growth.

Iran's economic growth slowed in the late 1970s. That was one of the reasons for the revolution. As a side note, Iran's economy was much bigger and stronger than South Korea and Thailand combined. Now it's not!

^^ Well Thailand is not what I'd call a rich nation, while South Korea's Samsung must have been strong for many years, right?

Considering one factor (such as Samsung) is not really a reason to call a country "rich" or not. A good indicator is the country's GDP: The measure of national income and output for a given country's economy. South Korea's GDP is 13th in the world. Iran's is 29th. Thailand is 34th.

However that has nothing to do with standard of living, it is just the technical-industry.

(nominal, not PPP)

1978
Japan GDP/per capita: ~6000$
Iran GDP/per capita: ~2500$

(2.4*2500 = 6000)

2007
Japan GDP/per capita: ~35,000$
Iran GDP/per capita: ~4000$

(8.75*4000= 35000)

(Please note that, 2500$ under the Shah is over 7500 today dollars, basically during all this time this crap regime couldn't even higher our GDP, even though Japan managed. There is doubt that we would probably pass Japan in terms of economy etc if the Shah was still in power. Also worth knowing that Japan did not have the problems we had to deal with.)

Omid_Sultani
November 26th, 2008, 11:28 PM
^^ Iran would probably have less economical problems than Japan, but I don't think it would have a technical development close to Japan's. Their problem is lack of natural resources, so they have invested alot in the industry. After WWII, the economy slowly growed until the 60's when it truly developed greatly and in the 70's, Japan was the home of hightech good stuff. Iran would today be a strong economy, though I think it would have more debts than those days, but still an economical power.

Iran’s stadiums are not up to FIFA standards: AFC president

TEHRAN, Dec. 21 (MNA) -- Asian Football Federation (AFC) President Mohamed Bin Hammam has said that Iran does not have international standard facilities in its football stadiums.

Bin Hammam, who took part in the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s Football League Organization in Tehran on Tuesday, warned the country’s football officials over lack of quality stadiums.

“Iran is a leading country in Asia. You must uplift your stadiums according to FIFA standards. In my opinion professional football brings business and enjoyment for people,” the high-ranking AFC official, who is from Qatar, said.

“We have walked a long road to make Asian football professional. We have always encountered opposition in this case but overcame obstacles,” Bin Hammam said.

I think it was decreased after the renovations a couple of years back. But I clearly remember that Iran-Japan game where we had like 120,000 ppl so...

And I had no idea there was a new stadium being built in shiraz (not that it matters cuz they will never finish it anyway lol). My dad used to take me to Bargh games when I was a kid. There was always some fuck behind me spitting "tokhme" all over the place.

Another piece of proof that Croatians are Iranians:lol:, our national stadium (Maksimir) has been under "redevelopment" for over 10 years and a couple of hundreds of millions of Euros have been "laundered" through it.

Emam Reza Stadium in Mashhad is under construction. It will be opened next year. First, it will have a capacity of 15.000, however it will become 25.000 in the future. It will be near to Mashhad metro station and therefore easy and fast access.

they are goiing to build many indoor facilities under the stands, the making of that will start after the stadium has opened in 1391. they will be making the pitch from artificial turf (fifa approved) and install unbreakable seats

they are also still wondering wether to make its full capacity (25000) or 15000

yeah, u know it is a decent stadium and I hope it will be 25.000 seats. I read about it in another website. I hope the rest of the country gets similar thinks. Tehran, Shiraz and Esfahan in particular need at least 3 great stadiums and without the track. 50.000 or so would be good, but also 30.000. The track is bad, but then better than nothing.

Mashhad has a big budget this year!

Mashhad has a big budget this year!

Emam Reza Stadium belongs to Astan e Ghodas with no funding from the Municipality or Tarbiat badani. The stadium is located in the best location inside the city as part of the Astan Ghods compelx. Its much more accessible and convenient than Samen stadium. I just wish Astan Ghods with all of it enormous resources and money gets more involved in Sports.

Is it being build by the private sector?

Not exactly. Astan e Ghods is a an autonomous non-profit religious organization (bonyad) witch is independent from the government. Its head (currently Ayatollah Tabasi) is appointed by the supreme leader. They don't pay tax and they pretty much dominate the Khorasan economy. They have huge incomes not only from people travelling to Emam Reza shrine, but from hundreds of factories, huge real states, international trades and so on. They own most of real estates in Mashhad (melk e vaghfi).

I remember a few years ago, when aboumoslem was playing perspolis in Samen, They packed the stadium with over 50,000 people hours before the game, and I couldn't get in.

I saw new stadium last December and its not a bad size but I bet in big games they will pack it with over 40,000 people. It looks a lot better than the ugly and unfinished Samen stadium and it is planned to be all seated.

The good thing is that metro's third line will pass through Ferdosi Blvd. and there are planned stations at Janbaz sq. and Ferdosi sq. This Could help to ease the street traffic big time.

Not clear yet but I think both Aboumoslem & Payam will have a chance. The problem is that it will be on artificial turf.

SoroushPersepolisi
July 23rd, 2011, 10:31 PM
if its proper turf then im fine, like the luzhinski stadium in moscow , if its proper fifa approved itl ve better because the cost for water is high and the unknowledged owners will put on crappy grass thats all dry and yellow and ugly ( more like a desert bush area) lol

if they put proper clean lush grass thats taken care of thatl be the best but we know they wont do that

usage: then what will they do with samen? they are expanding that aswell and building an indoor arena beside it, maybe rah ahan will go there, since they moved to mashhad (but im not sure since apparently ali daei bought the club and will coach it and keep it in tehran)

Samen complex in incomplete and its construction paste is very slow like other big stadiums in Iran.

The stadium full size is supposed to be 70,000. Its second deck was put on hold a few years ago after Saidlu visited Emam Reza stadium's progress. Also, the track and field tartan covering was never done.

The indoor stadium is not even half way through and the bicycle stadium is not in use even after its inauguration a few weeks ago. Other complex activities are next to zero except the shandeez-Mashhad expressway that would make the stadium access much easier. I think it will take at least another decade to see something decent and complete there, and I still would't like its location. Its extremely cold and windy in winters.

I think Mashhad would still need a 70,000 plus stadium specially when one of its teams get back to the major league. Aboumoslem, despite its current sorry state, is always like a time bomb and considering its massive popularity, it can attract huge fans in big games. I have seen it before and it will happen again in future.

samen is horrible

i remember ferdosipour allways complaining about the track being left undone

anyway, itss sooo far from the city i dunkno why the hell they built it there( just to make crowds smaller)

but again, 70,000 is a bit too much 30-50000 max is good, i personally like 25000 though, stadiums rarely get full theres no point, unless they change the ticket sale methods

ahvaz has a 50000 stadium u/c aswell, so does shiraz

god knows when they will finisg
