ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday restrained the construction firm of Centaurus tower, from handing over the possession of multiplex within the complex to any entertainment company. The court took the decision on a civil suit filed by chairman Cinepax film entertainment company in which he contended that despite using his company’s name in the advertisement of multiplex in the multi-storey complex and making a final deal to lease the multiplex to its company, Pak Gulf Construction Limited (PGCL) entered into an agreement with Mandviwala Entertainment Limited (MEL) which was illegal and against the rights of Cinepax.
A single member bench comprising of Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan was hearing the case in which counsel for the petitioner Advocate Khurram Hashmi submitted before the court that PGCL was constructing a multi-purpose, multi-tower complex in the federal capital, adding that when Cinepax learnt of PGCL’s plans to build the complex, it introduced the concept of a multi-screen Cineplex and laying out the benefits of having such a Cineplex. “Since Cinepax was the only successful and well regarded Cineplex operator in Pakistan, PGCL therefore started negotiating with Cinepax in relation to the terms of a lease,” he added.
The petitioner cited Pak Gulf Construction (private) Limited and Mandviwala Entertainment Limited (MEL) as respondents.
He informed by 2009, negotiations between Cinepax and PGCL had become sufficiently advanced and PGCL had started using Cinepax’s name in its marketing materials. In March 2010, PGCL’s representatives even contacted the architectural firm (“Mesbur”) engaged by Cinepax to see how to improve the design originally proposed by PGCL.
He said that after the final agreement PGCL started using delaying tactics in executing a formal lease document within sixty days. In the meantime, Cinepax came to know that PGC was mulling to give lease to a third party instead of Cinepax. On February 13, 2012, Cinepax received a termination letter by PGCL which stated that PGCL has decided not to go ahead with the lease in favour of Cinepax and has entered into an agreement with a third party, MEL, he stated.
However, the petitioner, in his petition said that PGCL has been marketing the complex ever since 2009 on the basis that a Cineplex there will be operated by Cinepax and the current five-screen design of the multiplex was designed by an architect engaged by Cinepax for this particular site. He stated that on warranties by PGCL, Cinepax has incurred massive expenditures like 35,500,000 in obtaining projectors for the Multiplex, in payments to its architect of Rs1,800,000 and in payments to an acoustics expert of Rs1,600,000.
The counsel for the petitioner prayed before the court to direct the PGCL to handover possession of the site for multiplex to Cinepax and to restrain the PGCL as well as Mandviwala Entertainment Company from interfering in the contractual right of Cinepax under the agreement. He requested the court to refrain the respondents from using the design of the multiplex for any other purpose.

Residents of Islamabad are concerned over the big billboards that appear to be sprouting all over the city. One recent example is the huge billboard that has appeared on the under-construction building of Centaurus located near Jinnah Avenue flyover. Besides, one can see a number of billboards at airport chowk, on Kashmir Avenue and other roads which can become a source of human casualties in case of an accident, they said. Aurangzeb Khan, a government officer in Pak Secretariat, says. “The huge hoarding being fixed on the building for the last one week can divert the attention of drivers and cause accident,” he said.

they are many rich doctors and businessmen in UK USA and Dubai they should be their target market and of course the locals will mostly go for food and movies as expected with any mall

People in Islamabad are very rich, more than capable of buying any foreign luxury brands. These brands are available in Karachi already but in stores that carry many different brands, instead of specialized stores for each brand. Well, there are a lot of specialized stores, but not of Prada or Vuitton as far as I'm aware.

I have been to different 5 star hotels but haven't seen any Cineplex or Hyper market. Just thinking broadly it doesn't make sense to have Mall (super market and cineplex) part of hotel or office tower. Mall is normally a busy place where people hang out late night while Hotel and office tower require peacful surroundings.

Not all of them will be known brands. A lot of them may be locally-owned, independent stores. There are countless such stores in Pakistan.

as far as I know the cladding behind the plastic cover is light blue, it will inshAllah match with the blue glass.

These are definitely the best designed and built buildings in Pakistan. The cladding will look awesome when it's finished. I hope this is the standard that other projects will follow.

A few years ago when I was going to do a project in Karachi I met the architectural firm that designed this project - WS Atkins - in Dubai. They're expensive but they're the best.

Meh, I don't understand this obsession with brands. Who gives a crap? What is so special about Prada or Gucci? Does their stuff come from raw materials mined on some distant planet? Or are their products made by robots which work on a molecular level? Get over it fools. A shirt or handbag from any of the stores above could be just as good as anything these overpriced brands sell.

WOW! Did I hit a raw nerve or something. Calm down. No point in calling people fools if they don't agree with you. Brands are important. If they were not then there is no point discussing anything in this thread. Why are we all obsessed with this Centaurus project then? Just like you said to me it offers nothing special. Couple of fancy rooms and a nice view and yet people are paying millions to get an apartment where they can hardly breathe. The reason is simple, It's because it is designed by WS Atkins (an Armani/Versace equivalent) and covered in fancy glass then what your local construction company offers (i.e. Bahria).

People in Pakistan should have access to all kind of brands, whether they can afford or not. There are people who make three trips in an year to Dubai/Malaysia just for shopping. You think they will not shop if they can readily find these merchandise in Pakistan. Heck we have the crappiest fast food chains in Pakistan (Hardees, McDonald, e.t.c) and you see people standing in lines to get a freaking burger. How about banning them as well, coz to me they don't offer anything special than a local bun kabab.

Having said that nobody is forcing you to go buy an expensive suit. If you are ok with Alkaram or Bonanza then good for you. And if you think that there is no difference between a Rolex and Swatch or Suzuki and a Merc than you my friend need to get out a bit more. Hope you get my point. Peace out!

I'm with Noshie here. I too think that brands are a good way to distinguish products. Some top brands definitely have better designs and quality. They may be more expensive but they fit better, look better and last longer. E.g. I have some Hugo Boss suits that are way better quality than less expensive suits I could buy. On the other hand Armani suits are even more expensive but I don't like then at all. So it all depends on your comfort zone.

Which mall would not want to bring international brands into their mall....it would be their dream come true. It is just that these brands are not ready to enter Pakistan. Mango's entrance into Pakistan is a big test for them and if it succeeds, then watch out...lots will follow.

mango will succeed, for sure. zara is coming in the safa mall , F 7 , islo..... see, in pakistan if you have to go over formal jackets, there is absolutely nothing on ground. and i mean, absolutely nothing other then 2 items of cambridge or a few at mens store. most of zara and mango are lesser priced then the mens store's items.... :)

Waqas...for the record Zara is not entering Pakistan...at least not this year. There is a Next store planned for Safa but they are already in Pakistan. But Next stores do not seem to be carrying the current merchandise.

As for Mango, they are only entering Pakistan with women's wear. They have planned three stores, one in Dolmen Clifton Karachi, next is Y block Lahore and Centaurus in Feb.

I actually agree with you there. Thats a pretty unimpressive list of brands there. I expected a lot more to open up at the Centaurus. I actually expected it to be as good if not better than Dolmen Mall Clifton / Karachi. I am actually quite disappointed that there is no food court system at the mall. Is there a Hypermarket at the mall ?

the SAFA gold mall in F7 has added like 20 international brands ..i wonder if they will duplicate stores between Centaurus and safa mall


they posted the stores on their FACEBOOK PAGE they have NEXT, Timberland in SAFA as well as SONY WORLD

The Centaurus hasnt added any brands to their list in 2 weeks...and even their box is filled..lets hope they come up with a new list soon

Pak Gulf Construction (Pvt.) Ltd signs an agreement with China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) for the construction of “The Centaurus”

Worldwide interest was shown by 32 International companies to undertake construction of the project. In depth due diligence was carried out canvassing technical capabilities, financial strength and workmanship in similar projects. On the basis of the wherewithal, it merited that the contract be awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).

CSCEC was established in 1982 and have completed over 3,000 mega projects in over 100 countries. Among this exceptional record are the World Trade Centre in Zhejiang, the Global Finance Centre in Shanghai, 101 storeys and the Russian Federal Government Building, 93 storeys, in Moscow.

CSCEC also has to its credit the record in completion of the $230 million Beijing Shopping Mall in 33 months and the $ 120 million Sheraton Hotel in Algeria in only 18 months. The company has an enviable profile in the design and construction of five star deluxe hotels, shopping malls, apartments and office blocks.

The Centaurus has been designed to international standards by the world renowned Architect and Designer WS Atkins. The design includes full compliance with the seismic codes, which are now in place in Pakistan. Atkins also have a record of designing exceptional buildings including the Burj al Arab in Dubai and many others.

The Centaurus will be constructed in accordance with the Atkins design and specifications. All international standards and safety recommendations will be strictly followed.

The Centaurus project has the requisite resources in place and it will be completed on schedule

:ohno: sir jee, no reason to be harsh or rude. FYI, there are malls in Peshawar and Quetta. Also Pizza hut, KFC and others. Just google Deans Mall Peshawar built in Mush's era I believe it's decent and huge. Google is your friend. BTW, I just found a new project while googling. I will be posting it soon.

Frankly I agree that Lahore needs a huge spectacular mall. And so does Karachi. The ones in Karachi are not that big. By big I mean at least 1 million square feet or more. Hopefully in the 2 million sq. ft. range.

Every city nowadays is defined by the size and quality of its biggest mall.

I so agree with you there. Lahore is Pakistan's second largest city with around 10 million people and it doesn't really have much of a mall culture. Mall of Lahore is a pretty decent mall. But a city of the that size should have more malls and bigger ones. It seems as if people in Lahore aren't much into malls they like shopping at Shopping streets or outdoors more. I am pretty optimistic about the fortress mall project though.

Karachi is the only city in the country that has proper malls. According to my ranking this is how I'd rank them :

1. Dolmen City Clifton
2. Dolmen Mall Tariq Road
3. Atrium Mall
4. Forum
5. Dolmen Mall North Nazimabad
6. Park Towers
7. Emerald Towers Mall
8. Millenium Mall

I am pretty optimistic about The Mall opening soon at Clifton it seems pretty decent.

Centaurus seems pretty swell , they've manage to rake in quite a few big names like Hardees and Mango. I think it'll turn out to be better if not like Dolmen City

Malls are cool and all but we should aspire to a 'mall culture'. Why not seek theatres, libraries, opera halls and the such, allowing some high culture to take off in Pakistan.

A lease agreement was signed between PakGulf Construction Pvt Limited, developers of The Centaurus and Famous Brands Ltd to open signature outlets of Samsonite, Giordano, Famous Watches, Storm, Jockey, and Hang Ten at the Centaurus Mall. The signing ceremony took place at The Centaurus’ sales and marketing suite, here in Islamabad.

these panels in several colors are being made in turkey and china cheaper.. they look much better than in the old days of painting...the older buildings in blue area need to get these on their buildings and refresh their high rises to modern structures...any one see any remodeling going on with the older blue area high rises?

hopefully the old run down buildings in Islamabad learn about exterior cladding from Centaurus and improve the blue area image
