Thanks. I have a Nikon D200 SLR camera with a 18-200 mm lens. It's quite nice though a newer model (D300) has replaced it.

Most of the pictures I've taken have been from a moving car. But pictures usually turn out even better if I'm stopped while taking the photos.

Guys this might be a silly question, but... I have noticed a lot of buildings underconstruction in Downtown Toronto. They tend to start off with a steel frame and then tend to rise fairly quickly.
When I see construction pictures from Pakistan all I see is grey. The buildings are pure concrete. Is that because these building are constructed in an area with active fault lines or is this just because that is the most common technique used or that the builders are not experienced at using the steel frame construction?
I assume that is why constructing a building like this takes so long in Pakistan.

adil, there are two reasons for this.

1. Pakistan doesn't really have the amount of steel(read: capability) required to build a pure steel structure. Importing would be very expensive. You'll see steel high-rises in western countries predominently because they have cheaper steel. Plus the construction time is lower as well, which helps them save considerably on the labour costs.

2. You're right about fault lines thing...Concreate-reinforced structures are much stronger than steel structures. But then again, steel industry counters it with the fact that steel structure can absorb energy by bending...where as concreate doesn't. The other reason is labour being much cheaper in Pakistan so people often go with concrete.

You might have noticed, labour is also the reason houses in US are built from wood - its just to save money on labour costs. Btw, thats what I learned from the intraweb few years ago....as the saying goes...google is your friend :)

Islamabad—PakGulf has signed an agreement with renowned Turkish firm for designing the interior of The. The Centaurus consists of a shopping mall, two luxurious apartments towers, a corporate tower and a seven star hotel. Interest was shown by many companies for the interior designing. In depth due diligence was carried out canvassing technical capabilities, financial strength and workmanship in similar project and on merit it was decided that the contract be awarded to Odein Architecture & Interior Design.

The agreement was signed by President PGCL Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan and Ugur Onur Chairman of Odein. After the signing ceremony khan said the Centaurus will be an icon in Islamabad and will usher a new era in the real estate sector.

PGCL has already engaged the world renowned companies Atkins as project designer, China State Construction Eng. Corp. main contractor for the construction.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul Thursday lauded the under-construction mixed-use project of The Centaurus and described it as a milestone towards economic prosperity of brother Islamic country.He expressed these views in a meeting with Sardar Tanvir Ilyas Khan, President Pak-Gulf Construction Limited, a joint venture of Al Tamimi (Saudi Arabia) and Sardar Builders (Pakistan) executing the multi-billion project, who called on the visiting President here, said a press release.
The Turkish President said it was pleasing that such a gigantic project is being executed with full pace in Pakistan and assured for all out cooperation for the interior designing of The Centaurus to be executed by a Turkish firm.
Pak-Gulf had signed an agreement with Turkish firm for interior designing the complex.
Abdullah Gul also offered Pak-Gulf to invest capital in Turkey as well and assured for maximum cooperation in this regard.
President Pak-Gulf thanked Turkish President and said his visit to Pakistan along with his business delegation will strengthen trade ties between two brotherly states.
He said Centaurus will be an icon in Islamabad and will usher a new era in economic sector, adding that the interest shown by Turkish President and business delegation is pleasant gesture for Pakistan’s business community.
The Complex comprises a five-storey shopping mall, two 28-storeys each luxurious apartment towers, a 28-storey corporate tower and a 37-storey seven star hotel.

if i am not worng, i read it somewhere in a news paper, the CDA is trying to get approval from the government for this hotel and hayyat hotel. so until they get approval they wont start this

In case of Hotel grand hyat tower was approved by the CDA but later PAF and CAA objected the height of the building. But as the CDA had already given approval mentioning in the approval letter that no other agency, institute or any authority whatever can effect the completion of project by objecting on it.
Therefore BNP (Owners) is putting pressure on CDA and frequent meetings are occuring with CDA, CAA and PAF officials. To date CAA and PAF has agreed on constructing the tower upto a height which becomes about half of the original height of the main tower. (Dont remmember the exact height)

Same kind of restrictions seems to be with Centaurus. Lets see what happen next.

Why do these retards always restrict building heights?! Singapore is tiny with an airport yet look at their buildings.

yea...and that hotel is the crown of the building...without it the project looks just like any other ordinary building.

and it would have been great if the entire building was made black...looks super sexy that way.

the completion date for 5 star hotel is december 2010 or early 2011, and without the tower project has no meaning. so i bet you'll see the tower rising in few months.:)

I highly doubt that the hotel will not be completed until the three towers are complete. I mean, it will look extremely odd to have 3 fully completed glass cladded towers next to a U/C tower which is supposed to be attached to them. I think the hotel will be constructed before anyone gets to live in or open up stores in the other three towers.

As opposed to the hotel, there are people waiting to get possession of their penthouses and/or shops. I am pretty sure the two residential towers and mall will be up and running well before the hotel gets completed.

IIRC, the time line for hotel tower is somewhere end of 2012 (possibly Dec 21).

That is because 3rd tower is corporate tower and will be different as compared to other two towers.It will be 22 floors tall, adding the lower mall, total 22+5=27.

They are going alright & according to plan they will finish these three towers at the end of this year, what's wrong with that....

They have completed 27 levels of first tower. but sil construction is going on above this. i think the tower will be of 25 floors + 5 levels of mall...... 27 floors is the total no of floors including 5 storey mall... Am i right?
