The first plan for development in Sha Tin was approved by then Governor-in-Council in 1961. Sha Tin has grown from a rural township of 30,000 people in the early 1970s to a major new community, including an extension at Ma On Shan, of about 640,000 people today.

is the water still smelly?

The water quality of Shing Mun River has improved a lot obviously, but the town is no longer new now. :)

I was there last Nov, and it didn't smell. I don't know about summertime though.

nah it doesn't smell. Have run along there numerous times.

Think I'm more of a fan of MOS than Shatin though. MOS has the beaches and is right next to Sai Kung. My parents have an apartment there.
