Nice tower and nice future skyline, but it looks awfully unproportioned with those 2 monster towers on each side of the skyline and then pretty small towers in comparison with those two.

But it will look better once all of the taller buildings are built like in your second future skyline, and hopefully they get a few more supertalls to help even it out.

According to one of the local newspapers, the location of this tower will take Qatar Convention Center's place, so I think they will demolish the existing convention centre to build this project.

Reminds me of the Guangzhou tower (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=288567). Looks like a very ambitious project anyway. I wonder how tall it'll be - there's a guy on UrbanPlanet (http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19598) claiming it'll be taller than Dubai Towers (445m roof, 500m spire). Wow!

I agree. There is a 47 story luxury hotel tower being built on Vancouver's waterfront and even it is costing 350 million canadian ( Canada's dollar is at 87cents US).

I agree the design is not "inspired" by any means. But by that same token, a redesign could be absolutely stunning in the same lot. Let's hope for that instead of wishing for flat-out non-construction, right?

The soil testing en ground works are already begon, i think this tower is goiing to be a fast rising type. Because the structure is quite simple in a sence that there are no difficult volume's. perfect to prefab the hole thing. The top of the building is match more difficult to construct.

Yeah there are observation areas on the top as well as revolving restaurants in the 100-108 levels! I think it will be world's second-tallest tower when completed or maybe one of the top three. :D

Doha tower is compleatly diffrent its already underconstruction and its going to be 570m but Barwa tower or sometimes called arwa tower is another mystery project.

The tower itself is not underconstruction. An exhibition center stands in its place now, and it has to be dismantled first for construction to take place.

They demolished the original Exhibition Center that was there and are in the process of creating the foundations for the super-skyscraper :D

It is under construction - I can see it clearly from my friends apartment in the Alfardan tower next to the site. Also the new convention center which is a huge area. There are display boards which shopw the picture of this tower, but it is not like the picture at the start of this thread, much slimmer and more elegant.

The site we can see clearly from his apartment which is on 32nd floor in the Alfardan tower. There are hundreds of piles completed in the area for the convention center and the piling activity is happening on the tower site

Meanwhile I can show you a picture at ground level, sorry it is not as good as the view from the Alfardan but it gives you an idea of the construction

According to my contact in Qatar, it will be 551 m. with 112 floors.

This seems to be on hold since there is no machinery on site. Looks like they finished the piling and are now waiting for the main contractor

Patrykus, you can clearly see construction in the pictures i quoted from Massilia, for the convention center which is part of the project so technically its under construction. Google Earth images for Qatar are highly outdated, you certainly cant compare it to the fairly fresh images above, again, construction reached street level. Don't believe the cancellation stuff, its probably posted by some jealous idiots that believe the entire middle east is falling down because of the economic crisis. thats not the issue, the issue is for the new airport to open which is going to be in 2011 so we should see construction of the tower itself before that time.

Convention center doesn't count as a tower. The tower may be on hold, and convention being build at the same time. As for the google earth image. That was the point. On the picture from year back we can see the same as on your update. And if you're saying the tower will start in 2011 thats great, but as for now it's still on hold.

Orascom Construction Joint Venture Unit Wins $675 Million Qatar Contract

Orascom Construction Industries, Egypt’s largest publicly traded builder, said a unit owned by its joint venture with Besix Group has won a $675 million contract in Qatar.

The unit, Six Construct Qatar, will build a phase of the Doha Convention Center & Tower in a joint venture with Midmac Contracting Co., Cairo-based Orascom said in a statement on its website today.

Orascom operates in the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia. The company said it had formed a joint venture in January with Morgan Stanley to invest in infrastructure in the Middle East and Africa.

“Qatar is a core regional market for the OCI Construction Group,” Chief Executive Officer Nassef Sawiris said in the statement.

Six Construct’s share of the contract is about $338 million, Orascom said. Orascom owns 50 percent of the Besix Group, which in June won a $750 million contract in a joint venture to build the third phase of the New Doha International Airport passenger terminal complex.

Shares of Orascom were almost unchanged at 250 Egyptian pounds ($43.83) at 10:47 a.m. in Cairo trading today.

You will Insha2allah (If god wills.) see it rising, since the Convention center is actually in some areas 1 floor high and in other areas at street level. so this is going good, the tower should be the next step.

Take note a near-by parking lot being utilised by Sheraton hotel will be used for this project aswell, it will be excavated and turned into underground parking, above however will be made into a park, so it would create better views for the area, at the same time, more parking space.

This was the Grollo Tower approved in Melbourne......the first was to be 680 mt. and then the spike in Dubai rejected it.....I hope this tower is completed and I will always look at it...maybe one day visit it and think it could have been here in Melbourne.....Do a good job Doha...you will have a world class building !

Lusail Real Estate Development Company (LREDC) has relaunched its Doha Convention Centre Tower project after a lapse of more than two years. The company has invited prequalification bids for the 112-storey project. The last date to bid is December 11. The tower will have a gross built-up area of 219,000 sq m above grade and 110,000 sq m below-grade for parking facilities. It rises from a 55m x 55m base at the ground floor with the four sides of 552m-high shear glass facades sloping inward. It also has a 400m tall concrete structure plus 150m steel helix structure sheathed in a glass façade. Work on the project was earlier halted following fears that it could disrupt the take off and landing of flights in Doha. The Doha Convention Centre and Tower project is located in the West Bay Area and will have a host of hotel facilities and apartments, in addition to retail spaces. The convention area itself will be 100,000 sq m in size, while the tower and centre will include 65,000 sq m of gross office floor space and 25,000 sq m of retail area, reports said.
