I made this picture to show you how BARWA tower, DUBAI tower, ALBIDAA tower, and DOHA office tower will look like in our skyline. Hope It will be very close to the reality. :)
http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/277/asd1rx.jpg
Notice: there is an illusion in the picture due to the perspective, buildings in the right appear smaller than the left coz the left are closer to the camera.
But I mad the size of the 4 towers as there is no illusion
SEE this with some other towers that will appear in our skyline; there are more towers but I can't put them all .

Ben_Burj January 9th, 2006, 01:42 PM Realy amazing, but isn't 180 million $ quit cheap i mean burj dubai that will be between 150-200 floors is costing some thing around 1 Billion $
MillenniaL January 9th, 2006, 01:59 PM u right . i dunno, maybe the $180m is the cost of the tower not for the whole project
ENDOPHINS January 9th, 2006, 02:37 PM Nice looking tower but i doubt that if the tower has 14million space alone
warnings January 9th, 2006, 02:42 PM Looks really futuristic. How tall is it in meters?
Khanabadosh January 9th, 2006, 03:13 PM Absolutely beautiful.
Dubai-Lover January 9th, 2006, 03:27 PM there is so much stuff coming up in doha right now
the whole west bay area will get one hell of a skyline
too sad, there are no news most of the time
it's hard to find any info on the projects
pedang January 9th, 2006, 03:45 PM woww :eek2: :eek2:
Spearman January 9th, 2006, 04:37 PM The region just keeps these huge beauties coming... :)
Who is the architect?
Nice looking tower but i doubt that if the tower has 14million space alone
~1,3M cubic meters. I guess that would be devided by 3-5, depending on the height of each floor ;) (to get sq m, that is)
Talbot January 9th, 2006, 04:51 PM Nice tower and nice future skyline, but it looks awfully unproportioned with those 2 monster towers on each side of the skyline and then pretty small towers in comparison with those two.
But it will look better once all of the taller buildings are built like in your second future skyline, and hopefully they get a few more supertalls to help even it out.
ENDOPHINS January 9th, 2006, 05:21 PM The region just keeps these huge beauties coming... :)
Who is the architect?
~1,3M cubic meters. I guess that would be devided by 3-5, depending on the height of each floor ;) (to get sq m, that is)
oops! sorry that i've mistaken it as the G.F.A of the building :sleepy:
MillenniaL January 9th, 2006, 05:53 PM Nice looking tower but i doubt that if the tower has 14million space alone
the total area is 1,337,147 cubic meter
dubaiflo January 9th, 2006, 06:12 PM doha is really booming and they have really great projects.
OREO January 9th, 2006, 06:49 PM weird...
Pedrillo January 9th, 2006, 06:55 PM  Huge, and with a great desing!!! :applause:
Phobos January 9th, 2006, 08:12 PM Nice exotic design!
huit January 9th, 2006, 09:25 PM that's one cool looking tower!
MillenniaL January 10th, 2006, 12:22 AM According to one of the local newspapers, the location of this tower will take Qatar Convention Center's place, so I think they will demolish the existing convention centre to build this project.

Oriolus January 10th, 2006, 04:44 AM the total area is 1,337,147 cubic meterArea is square metres not cubic metres - you mean volume? I've never seen the volume of the building stated before?
Reminds me of the Guangzhou tower (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=288567). Looks like a very ambitious project anyway. I wonder how tall it'll be - there's a guy on UrbanPlanet (http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19598) claiming it'll be taller than Dubai Towers (445m roof, 500m spire). Wow!
Metroland January 10th, 2006, 04:47 AM looks awesome, quite original
SaRaJeVo-City January 10th, 2006, 05:13 AM This is the best damn skyline I seen in my life...
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/7478/as26zr.jpg
mr_storms January 10th, 2006, 05:48 AM Dont really like the design :( Glad to see another supertall being built though
_zner_ January 11th, 2006, 10:37 AM good one for doha!
Mplsuptown January 11th, 2006, 01:21 PM Beautiful, I love the way the building wraps around on the bottom and then rises straight up on the corners. Unique. Really liked your proposed skylines as well.
Skoulikimou January 11th, 2006, 01:56 PM once it completed it will be the most beautiful scraper in the world ;)
Leesome January 11th, 2006, 02:17 PM Stunning!!! Fairly simple - but damn effective. Love it!!
themongrel January 11th, 2006, 02:34 PM the bottom looks like the vortex, although the vortex will probably just end up a phantom work
Vanman January 11th, 2006, 11:26 PM Realy amazing, but isn't 180 million $ quit cheap i mean burj dubai that will be between 150-200 floors is costing some thing around 1 Billion $
I agree. There is a 47 story luxury hotel tower being built on Vancouver's waterfront and even it is costing 350 million canadian ( Canada's dollar is at 87cents US).
Harkeb January 12th, 2006, 04:02 AM Great futuristic tower!
LordMarshall January 12th, 2006, 04:11 AM great looking tower.
really sexy :okay:
-Corey- January 12th, 2006, 04:15 AM How tall is it?
Leesome January 12th, 2006, 05:11 AM What project is the orange-ish one in the middle of that photo?
novaguy January 12th, 2006, 02:29 PM It just looks like they tried too hard.
DjayD January 12th, 2006, 03:04 PM Barwa looks great
The skyline will be unique even if I don't really like the Dubai Tower
909 January 12th, 2006, 05:51 PM Interesting tower, but i don't know what to think about it's design.
Mosaic January 13th, 2006, 07:20 AM it's really futuristic.
MillenniaL January 13th, 2006, 04:11 PM What project is the orange-ish one in the middle of that photo?

MetroGuardian January 14th, 2006, 08:59 AM barwa tower looks extremely cheap to me. Only 180 mil to build a 100F supertall??
Seems a good deal.
Talbot January 14th, 2006, 09:41 PM I like the World Trade Center, is the circle platform on top going to be functional?
MillenniaL January 15th, 2006, 01:37 AM I like the World Trade Center, is the circle platform on top going to be functional?
I think it's going to be a panoramic restaurant :)
Citystyle February 3rd, 2006, 08:59 AM Who designed it, god damn awsome.
System_Halted February 3rd, 2006, 09:13 AM I liked the design.
But there must be something wrong about the cost. 180m$ is quite less for a 100F tower.
source26 February 3rd, 2006, 12:29 PM this design is suspiciously similar to one of the final designs proposed for the "Flower of the East" hotel in Kish island in Iran..
Qatar4Ever February 4th, 2006, 01:53 PM WOW! Im suprised a lot of ppl love it coz i kinda dislike it. Makes kinda proud !!
If you look carefully you can acctually see the twin towers I used to work in, hehe both 16 floors so good luck finding them.
ssfan February 4th, 2006, 01:56 PM It looks like the Guangzhou Sight-seeing TV tower.
Eastender February 9th, 2006, 12:06 AM the design of barwa is weird. the top and bottom don't work well together. 100fl is impressive though.

jason poon January 2nd, 2007, 01:50 PM Amazing!
Doha is great but it is a sub-million city ini population!?
and...
the construction cost is only 180millionUS$, it's really economic for such a supertall building.
qatari 4 ever January 2nd, 2007, 02:08 PM Barwa tower is 500m
QatPhils January 3rd, 2007, 01:39 PM This is so called - "secret tower"

mightygoose January 21st, 2007, 11:11 PM its the chicago spire in a corset not my favourite....
_docomo January 22nd, 2007, 06:01 AM It looks like the Guangzhou Sight-seeing TV tower.
Thats what I thought of straight away when I saw it.. I actually think the Guangzhou tower looks better, but the lighting on this tower makes it look more special :)
Sorta a like Dubai meets Las Vegas mix :)
_zner_ January 22nd, 2007, 08:57 AM looks pretty extravagant! nice spire. :D
Brendan January 22nd, 2007, 11:22 AM It looks good and I like it. A great addition to the skyline.
QatPhils January 22nd, 2007, 11:30 AM not all building are included there.

kurdapya January 24th, 2007, 02:15 PM wow!! Congratulations to DOHA!!!...you dont go behind Dubai....anyway, i like the design of the Tower, a little resemblance of the Burj Al Alam (http://www.burjalalam.com/home.asp), its tapering upwards:banana:

OMG you have got to be kidding me. It looks exactly the same as Grollo Tower.
http://www.emporis.com/images/6/2000/12/122531.jpg
I hope it doesn't get built.
depressio September 3rd, 2007, 12:16 PM I agree the design is not "inspired" by any means. But by that same token, a redesign could be absolutely stunning in the same lot. Let's hope for that instead of wishing for flat-out non-construction, right?
ZZ-II October 1st, 2007, 12:05 PM September 28th Update from the Qatar-section of SSC:
The works are actually divided in 3 parts. I couldnt manage to take pics of the middle one, which seems to be the most interesting (( ... will try again!

Buyckske Ruben October 18th, 2007, 11:08 PM Thanks Imre for the photo's,
The soil testing en ground works are already begon, i think this tower is goiing to be a fast rising type. Because the structure is quite simple in a sence that there are no difficult volume's. perfect to prefab the hole thing. The top of the building is match more difficult to construct.
This is a very interesting design, very slender en the proportions are perfect!
If someone have ground level plans???... it would be splendid!!!
Halawala October 19th, 2007, 03:38 AM Thanks Imre for the photo's,

Is there any plans to allow public to go to the top of the tower ?
Welcome as always Skyprince :D
Yeah there are observation areas on the top as well as revolving restaurants in the 100-108 levels! I think it will be world's second-tallest tower when completed or maybe one of the top three. :D
Nikkodemo October 20th, 2007, 02:21 PM Very nice building....incredible!
Carrefour in Qatar, I really miss Carrefour...:(
Carrefour was in Mexico but...it's gone:(
SA BOY October 20th, 2007, 03:38 PM Yes, its a multi-use tower with apartments, a hotel, shopping mall (adjacent lot), convention center, and restaurants/recreation facilities.

Do they have an operator for the hotel yet?
Halawala October 20th, 2007, 07:08 PM Do they have an operator for the hotel yet?
Not yet. Its still too early to tell, but I would predict its the local Merweb Hotel Chain.
Skyprince October 31st, 2007, 01:18 PM
So Barwa Tower is confirmed as the Second-highest building in Qatar by 2012 ?
ZZ-II October 31st, 2007, 08:30 PM 2nd tallest?? i know there's a 2nd tall tower but over 570m?
Indica October 31st, 2007, 08:40 PM How high up is the uppermost inhabitable floor? looks like the roof feature is a good 120m-150m alone, so maybe around 415m to 420m for the 108th floor?
Are any floors skipped in this building?
xXFallenXx October 31st, 2007, 09:10 PM The amount of tall buildings being built right now is incredible!
Very nice Doha!
Dan Hochhaus November 1st, 2007, 08:03 AM Superb! I'd love to see this "Grollo Tower" design become reality in Doha... after the original had been cancelled in Melbourne and the second proposal had been changed to what we all know as Burj Dubai.
I'm only a bit confused about the name... is "Barwa Tower" and "Doha Tower and Convention Center" actually the same project?
Qatar Son 333 November 2nd, 2007, 11:49 AM answer is no
Doha tower is compleatly diffrent its already underconstruction and its going to be 570m but Barwa tower or sometimes called arwa tower is another mystery project.
oh the other hand there is a tower named Burj al-teijary in doha which is said to be 800m but its highly unlikely.
QatPhils November 12th, 2007, 07:24 PM ^^ Then how come the pictures and information are not showing Barwa Tower but instead showing Doha Tower and Convention Center and Tower!
skyperu34 December 3rd, 2007, 09:29 PM I look at it several times, and i feel i like it more and more...!

I have seen the pics but the pics are more than 2moths old and noone said back then that the status of this tower should be changed to u/c. So i thought that something changed on that site.
bartamone December 5th, 2007, 05:31 PM wow
thankssssss
Halawala December 5th, 2007, 09:27 PM The tower itself is not underconstruction. An exhibition center stands in its place now, and it has to be dismantled first for construction to take place.
Prince Victor December 6th, 2007, 08:04 AM Good pictures. Thanks for updating them. :)
Astralis January 9th, 2008, 12:36 AM Awesome.

LeMoN-SK January 9th, 2008, 12:55 AM I am sorry, but this Grollo tower was proposed for Melbourne? What is the height of the rendered version? Looks like some 600-650m!
Anberlin January 9th, 2008, 06:04 AM ^^ It was originally I think, 680 metres tall, but got scaled down to.. 560 metres.

DCM should sue them i think they actually trademarked the design.
Halawala January 22nd, 2008, 08:05 AM They demolished the original Exhibition Center that was there and are in the process of creating the foundations for the super-skyscraper :D
ZZ-II January 22nd, 2008, 12:58 PM so i think a mod can Change the Title to UC
amnesia March 22nd, 2008, 04:51 PM @citystyle, do you honestly think that Doha, a city in the world's spotlight, is going to jack a design?

Captain_Skyhawk_22 April 10th, 2008, 04:17 AM The size is impressive but I don't exactly like the design, it's kind of too simple IMO and not really original. It's not horrible at all though.

CULWULLA May 20th, 2008, 12:29 AM ive seen on skyscraperpage that there is another supertall duper tall uc in Doha called Convention centre tower @ 551m? is this true? is there a thread?

It's the same project (and they seem to be wrong about 551m).
Here's an older post by Imre (in this thread), with pictures of the model: link (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=15970053&postcount=112).
And here (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=414590&page=12)'s the thread in the Qatar forum.

It's the same, its just that the name Doha convention center and tower is commonly used, yes there is a thread - thats what i believe
amnesia August 17th, 2008, 09:22 AM was speaking to a developer who said that this 'may' hit 600m
SZR August 23rd, 2008, 09:59 AM It is strange that this project it seems gets little attention.
It is under construction - I can see it clearly from my friends apartment in the Alfardan tower next to the site. Also the new convention center which is a huge area. There are display boards which shopw the picture of this tower, but it is not like the picture at the start of this thread, much slimmer and more elegant.

There is nothing strange about it - no one is keeping this thread updated and people don't want to talk about something they can't see... :)
SZR August 23rd, 2008, 11:30 AM Sure, the next time I'll visit my friend I'll take some pictures and post. Right now I am in Dubai so maybe in a few days.
The site we can see clearly from his apartment which is on 32nd floor in the Alfardan tower. There are hundreds of piles completed in the area for the convention center and the piling activity is happening on the tower site
SZR August 23rd, 2008, 11:48 AM Meanwhile I can show you a picture at ground level, sorry it is not as good as the view from the Alfardan but it gives you an idea of the construction

mr_storms October 4th, 2008, 11:19 PM According to one of the local newspapers, the location of this tower will take Qatar Convention Center's place, so I think they will demolish the existing convention centre to build this project.

patrykus June 13th, 2010, 12:47 PM ^^ Well the best proof would be fresh pictures from the site. If it really is U/C after four months we should see nice progress made, but I actually doubt about that.
Qatar Son 333 June 13th, 2010, 01:14 PM Well, I don't think so. I checked google earth. On the picture from june 2 2009 the pilling is allready done. On these pictures, you posted, towers site seems to be abandoned, and on the Qatari subforum I red that it may be cancelled :(
Patrykus, you can clearly see construction in the pictures i quoted from Massilia, for the convention center which is part of the project so technically its under construction. Google Earth images for Qatar are highly outdated, you certainly cant compare it to the fairly fresh images above, again, construction reached street level. Don't believe the cancellation stuff, its probably posted by some jealous idiots that believe the entire middle east is falling down because of the economic crisis. thats not the issue, the issue is for the new airport to open which is going to be in 2011 so we should see construction of the tower itself before that time.
patrykus June 13th, 2010, 02:48 PM Convention center doesn't count as a tower. The tower may be on hold, and convention being build at the same time. As for the google earth image. That was the point. On the picture from year back we can see the same as on your update. And if you're saying the tower will start in 2011 thats great, but as for now it's still on hold.
Qatar Son 333 June 13th, 2010, 03:48 PM Dude, the project is underconstruction because the conevention center and the tower is one project

Qatar Son 333 September 8th, 2010, 08:12 PM Orascom Construction Joint Venture Unit Wins $675 Million Qatar Contract
Orascom Construction Industries, Egypt’s largest publicly traded builder, said a unit owned by its joint venture with Besix Group has won a $675 million contract in Qatar.
The unit, Six Construct Qatar, will build a phase of the Doha Convention Center & Tower in a joint venture with Midmac Contracting Co., Cairo-based Orascom said in a statement on its website today.
Orascom operates in the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia. The company said it had formed a joint venture in January with Morgan Stanley to invest in infrastructure in the Middle East and Africa.
“Qatar is a core regional market for the OCI Construction Group,” Chief Executive Officer Nassef Sawiris said in the statement.
Six Construct’s share of the contract is about $338 million, Orascom said. Orascom owns 50 percent of the Besix Group, which in June won a $750 million contract in a joint venture to build the third phase of the New Doha International Airport passenger terminal complex.
Shares of Orascom were almost unchanged at 250 Egyptian pounds ($43.83) at 10:47 a.m. in Cairo trading today.

Qatar Son 333 September 9th, 2010, 01:58 AM You will Insha2allah (If god wills.) see it rising, since the Convention center is actually in some areas 1 floor high and in other areas at street level. so this is going good, the tower should be the next step.
Take note a near-by parking lot being utilised by Sheraton hotel will be used for this project aswell, it will be excavated and turned into underground parking, above however will be made into a park, so it would create better views for the area, at the same time, more parking space.
this is the area i am talking about, the green area at the bottom.

redbaron_012 April 5th, 2011, 10:55 AM This building reminds me so much of Grollo tower in Melbourne which would've been the worlds tallest building. This thread brings back bad memories...
Bad memories? This was the Grollo Tower approved in Melbourne......the first was to be 680 mt. and then the spike in Dubai rejected it.....I hope this tower is completed and I will always look at it...maybe one day visit it and think it could have been here in Melbourne.....Do a good job Doha...you will have a world class building !
krkseg1ops April 6th, 2011, 05:02 PM at 680m in Melbourne, this would've been a Taipei101 on steroids :D

Doha tower project work to resume
03.11.12
Lusail Real Estate Development Company (LREDC) has relaunched its Doha Convention Centre Tower project after a lapse of more than two years. The company has invited prequalification bids for the 112-storey project. The last date to bid is December 11. The tower will have a gross built-up area of 219,000 sq m above grade and 110,000 sq m below-grade for parking facilities. It rises from a 55m x 55m base at the ground floor with the four sides of 552m-high shear glass facades sloping inward. It also has a 400m tall concrete structure plus 150m steel helix structure sheathed in a glass façade. Work on the project was earlier halted following fears that it could disrupt the take off and landing of flights in Doha. The Doha Convention Centre and Tower project is located in the West Bay Area and will have a host of hotel facilities and apartments, in addition to retail spaces. The convention area itself will be 100,000 sq m in size, while the tower and centre will include 65,000 sq m of gross office floor space and 25,000 sq m of retail area, reports said. Lusail Real Estate Development Company is owned by Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company. – TradeArabia News Service

ThatOneGuy November 5th, 2012, 09:29 PM I know three other towers that already have their foundations finished that should also restart :ohno:
I hate the top and the base, but the body is nice.
KillerZavatar November 5th, 2012, 10:19 PM i love the new design, looks amazing, i just hope it has not a negative impact on the height
