View Full Version : #Sydney: Genoa Tower (Bondi Jct)
Noonos March 17th, 2003, 07:50 AM I had to start a new thread..the old onee got deleted(?)
Anywho, the crane for the site is UP!!! also the crane is FRIGGIN massive, the tip looks easily 120m up! Its a Grocon crane, and is on the edge of the site, and for some reason they've jacked the thing up to full height alrady! and i dont think they've even gotten close to ground level w/ floors!
BTW
Genoa tower is a 56m Tower (18 stories) and on bronte rd. could anyone get a pic of the site? if you want a veiw from the rooftop of eastleauges, just go to the 8th level of eastleauges (this is the top office level) and go to an east leauges offfice and ask for Mark Peoples and ask to go to the roof to take some pics.
finn March 17th, 2003, 09:34 AM Here it is Noonos!

Good looking tower! :)
Noonos March 17th, 2003, 09:55 AM yep, it looks fan-spiffing-tastic! the shorrt tower especially, it was meant to be taller.
Also i can see they've ledft out eastgate towers, but not the podium? and the other tower to the far right? WTF

They dont want the tower to appear overshadowed by the Eastgate Towers, yet they want the rendering to show that Genoa is conveniently located near to shopping (i.e. Coles) - thus the towers are absent, but the shopping centre in the podium is there.
The strangely altered Nokia Tower in the background is supposed to give the impression of a busy, urban, trendy type of environment.
These artists' impressions really do give themselves a lot of artistic license, don't they! ;)
CULWULLA March 17th, 2003, 02:15 PM cool! ill add pic to ss.com (when its back).
CULWULLA March 20th, 2003, 02:54 PM just added it to ss.com!! its back!! better and faster than ever!! finally after 4 weeks !!
Fabian March 21st, 2003, 03:23 AM The crane from Kensington and even Brighton is pretty visible and it even isn't going to built that tall.
Noonos March 21st, 2003, 07:59 AM i told u it was tall fabian ;) this baby will be a great addition!
notice how there are two towers? the main and the shorter 5 sotrey? yeah the shorter one WAS gonna be taller but...yeah ;)
It will have an above(and maybe below) ground carpark, the above ground will be in the bottom of the main toweer.
Also it will be built by Grocon!
BTW its handy to have a dad working in the office tower next to it...my dad heard of this tower easy 2 yrs ago!
Muse March 27th, 2003, 05:26 AM Had a chance to pass by the Genoa Tower site yesterday and the Gocon crane is one mighty big crane!!
Noonos April 2nd, 2003, 01:57 PM just some more info.....The smaller 8 storie tower will have its own core, alreadi has the base formed, as does the other core or the main core which is on the edge of the site, OR ive misjudged and the main tower will share the coree and the core on the edge of the site is for lower levels.....? BTW the levels are at ground level now! Grocon aint wasting time on this!
Noonos April 21st, 2003, 08:43 AM well, just come back from the site itself (with photos) and the major core is formed and well is abit all over the place atm, but we'll see a grocon or summit corebox for sure soon anyway!

remember, its not the size of the crane that counts, but how you use it!!lol
Noonos April 26th, 2003, 10:19 AM no, muse is right, it is a big crane.....120m easily

I looked at them again this morning and they look even bigger!!! So visible too.
Muse April 27th, 2003, 05:52 AM It's tall in this case, not just due to the tower's height but also due to the large footprint of the site. It has to be able to deliver materials and reach over a large area.
The mast (tower) of the crane is tall so the jib (arm) can reach.
:master: BTW Noonos (our Bondi Junction correspondent). Are you able to get any snaps of the site? :master:
Noonos April 27th, 2003, 07:07 AM yep, got some of the all over the lace core and site in general+ looking up the crane

*place ;)
Noonos April 29th, 2003, 01:10 PM WELL i got to go to the outdoor roof of the eastleauges club 35m up!
if you happen to have an urge to go up there for some CRAZY reason (hint) just go to the second floor of offices and go to M.Peoples and Assoc. and ask for Mark Peoples, than ask for "the key" :D;)
Fabian April 29th, 2003, 10:58 PM You haven't given us the name of the person to ask for!
Is there anything else worth taking up from there?
Noonos April 30th, 2003, 10:12 AM welll...westfeild...you can see hurstville! but that'll go soon, you can take a pic of the bridge, the northern end of the city, plus the rest of bondi jct! BTW you can spy on ppl in the towers :D
tayser April 30th, 2003, 04:31 PM bumped so as thread wont get deleted
Muse June 4th, 2003, 12:41 PM On crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge this arvo today @ about 1.30PM on my way back from St Leonards, I could see Genova's large crane popping above the Eastpoint Towers @ Bondi Junction.
Cheers,
mb :)
Noonos June 6th, 2003, 07:36 AM went and had a look at the site today...
heres wats gone up:
some concrete columns around the base
the main core certainly has concrete up around it annd is about 1 level now, though no corebox.
theres alot of teel bars every where \9i think it might be steel framed? although ive never een a base construction before.maybe they're used in the very first stages.
CULWULLA June 27th, 2003, 05:55 AM view of Genoas crane from St MArtins tower today!

It's the red crane - all the other 4 cranes that can be seen in the picture are for Westfield Bondi Junction.
Fabian June 27th, 2003, 08:50 AM 4 cranes for one development. It seems like it's too many. At least it is a sign of progress in the area:)

its because the site is MASSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY NEED THEM ALL!
its progress or right!
Noonos June 27th, 2003, 12:51 PM The Genoa Crane is the Red one pointing upwards. The two Massive ones that are flat are for the Grace Bros. Site. Just to let you know how tall it is gonna be, the crane cabin or there abouts.
Also. Second Floor HAS been laid, not sure about core, though will get to site and take pics on mon.
Noonos July 17th, 2003, 03:05 AM news! fourth floor laid! not sure about core, but I will get to the site tomorrow and get pics!
Noonos July 22nd, 2003, 06:16 AM the tower is really zooming up!
the shorter tower is almost complete! Also, to my disappointment, the core is being built like the cove one, not using the lubeca jump system
CULWULLA July 22nd, 2003, 08:36 AM PHOTOS!!! where art thou?

Noonos July 25th, 2003, 08:45 AM great pics...ill have to get my developed and wat not...
the 2nd floor has been revealed, which means theres about 1 more floor to the shorter tower!
Noonos October 9th, 2003, 03:12 PM evidently, I never got my pics developed, but I did recently get a very cool little digi cam!!enjoy...(from the inside or behind of the tower!!
Also its shot up really quickly!! (lol going through puberty;))
since muse's last pics of the second floor, the tower has climbed about 15 stories!! only 2 or 3 left!
taken from level two of east leauges ;)
unfortunatley, from these pics, you can't make out how tall it is!

The crane for the Grace Brothers portion of the Westfield redevelopment I believe! :)
hornetfig December 2nd, 2003, 01:11 AM Yes the crane is for Westfield, but don't immediately think how high it is because it's a bit deceptive, the Westfield construction you can see finishes about halfway up that black mass which is a glass clad office building (the building is really odd, it looks too short for its design, maybe Council clobbered it, I don't remember)
Fabian January 6th, 2004, 10:16 PM Genoa from Monterey
And I did nothing to it either
http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v28/Fabian/PC290006.jpg
hornetfig January 7th, 2004, 05:37 AM brilliant photo there...
It's blended in with the East Leagues Club tower, but you can see the [becoming] White Tower of Minas... err Plaza Tower I
climbing_crane January 7th, 2004, 05:55 AM Fabian maybe you should leave your home suburb and get pics closer in. Motion is commotion.....
[MakkabI] February 12th, 2004, 02:04 PM Hey!
My house is only 3 minutes away from this awesome tower :).......
I have got a new camera....... I might be able to take some photos of this tower later - depend on my time.....
Cheers :)

I made it out there today for the first time in SIX years!!!!
I managed these as well. The complex looks quite nice.

Noonos June 1st, 2004, 01:19 AM well fabian since ur last photo the tower is now fully complete externally except for street level and a few things here and there - not really noticeable.
Theres a sky bridge in there aswell connecting the two towers and theres lots of silvery metal on the podium. If i could be bothered or when i get time ill get some pics - its a really nice tower!
CULWULLA June 1st, 2004, 05:58 AM well wheres your pic noonas?? get your arse into gear!!
Trances June 1st, 2004, 10:01 AM good work fabs
Fabian July 25th, 2004, 01:41 AM Here is a completed picture of the complex. It looks fantastic. They have done a good job too restoring the old buildings on site :)
Definately of the best residential developments in the Junction as of late.

[thimbs down]WOW. That is bad. Why bother keeping that 2 storey Victorian shop on the corner? Its not worth it considering what they have done behind it changes how you read that corner and the building itself. Another facade job! [/thimbs down]
Fabian July 27th, 2004, 10:19 PM Nah, they should stay. As I said they did a great job restoring them. The colour of the facade fits in well with the new podium.
hornetfig July 28th, 2004, 09:41 AM they're all the old frontages, one collapsed during construction and they've done a pretty poor job at replacing it - unless of course they add plaster mouldings. You can see it near the right of the picture with 3 windows looking really plain.
If they had demolished them, they'd also have widened the road on the left by one lane (the rest of it was widened in 1985 with the Eastgate project) which would have helped with a lot of traffic jams though...
Noonos July 30th, 2004, 12:58 PM yeah, that road thing is kind of stupid, although on the other hand it will provide a great feeling of light in the shop that sticks out - speaking of that, i wonder if the new shops are worth going to?
Tony P July 30th, 2004, 01:29 PM That bit of facadism in the photo Aussie Steve reposted (credit to Fabian) is rather bad. I don't mind facadism when whatever rises above the original structure has the same floorplate, but when its completely unrelated, like the above, what's the point of it ?....Better to just make a modern base. Very nice towers though, Thumbs up for that.
Noonos July 31st, 2004, 06:45 AM i've noticed everyone has been saying its nice - thats cos it was designed by PTW! (lol, stuff this good doesn't comes from a no-name :p)
CULWULLA August 19th, 2004, 12:49 AM any pix of completed tower>>??
Fabian August 19th, 2004, 06:52 AM any pix of completed tower>>??
Scroll up towards the top of the page to see shots I took a month ago. It was virtually complete.
