Does Anyone know what happened to Khor el Deira proposal ? Is it going to be done or what ?

ill go check they say it will have 2 towers, one 70 floor (al khor tower) and one 50 floor (al deira tower) + a train to connect them .

khour eldera has a kida tragic story .. the project has been accepted by ( majles elwozara ) 4 years ago .. but later both kuwait research institute and the local internal ministry refused the project because of the harmful effects on traffic and enviroment. don't forget the municipality regulations for commercials percentage inside kuwait city. but the main reason that lead to refuse this project was ( Estejwab Al-Nebary ) when he believed that this project is a clear stealing for kuwait public lands.
I still have the project catalog which contain many interisting details.

can you please tell me then how much it would have costed and how much big was the land it was going to be built on?

That was one of the best projects that I have seen in Kuwait. But it's unfortunate that the project ended up like that. That's what's wrong with having a democracy; the parliment will always oppose mega projects like these in kuwait.

unfortunatly I kept the cataloge back home .. but let me give you a little background for this project ..
back in early 50s, the foragin designer for kuwait city suggested to keep an empty land surrounds the old city that takes the same rout kuwait's old wall took, the reason is to give a natural border for the main city, also suggested to include this area with gardens and others. thats why you dont see any real projects in the area called ( the green belt ), between first ring road and alsoor st. except al-shaheed park, the dancing fountins, and skating halls where the rest of the area is useless .. waiting for investors to invest for this purpose, and you can notice Khour Al-Dera designer ( bokhamseen office ) didn't include majour buildings in that domain, but located them on islands in the gulf.
I believe this area needs a renovation and a major project .. but the fear, ( al7asad :) ) and the importance of the area makes everything posponed.

So has this project been postponed or cancelled? And you say that there aren't any buildings in the green belt? But if I remember well, there is one skyscraper that is in this green belt. This skyscraper is at the intersection between the first ring road the fahaheel expressway if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think any private buildings are within the "green belt". But guess what! A new mosque has just come up bang in the middle of the belt (as if we needed another mosque in that area). Best of luck to the Bukhamseen group with this project now!

Yeah I've seen the mosque. I think they placed the mosque there deliberately so that the project would not be done :) . But on the other hand they really needed a mosque in that area as there weren't any.
But you say that there aren't any buildings nearby how about that building that is on the same stretch of land as that mosque, you know near the traffic siganls ?

khor el deira would be such an amazing project it could boost kuwait city in many aspects

it real shame that that they didnt approved it , as i recall the idea of the project go way back in the 80's :)

I disagree with you guys .. although the project seems fabulous .. but it is going to creat many problems in traffic, and will turn the capital to a huge entertament city, which i don't believe the new goals for the city suit the designer perspective

I dont agree that skouli removed my post because it was a good lesson for Vana8 to remeber he isnt in downtown new york or where ever he is from and that he is talking about kuwait which is an islamic country.

nothing, other than the new mousque, plus the skiing center is built on the so called green belt, which is not so green. a huge part of it is used as car parks:( they really need to take care of it.. it need attention fast. That belt is the entrance to the capital of kuwait and it looks like a mess ... hope they fix it soon..

They dont really need a mosque there. There is one right across the street from Salhiya Mall and the people who actually hang out in that area are dont really go to a mosque , they go to church. In my opinion it's a bad location. Can someone tell me why is it reddish pink? atleast paint it the same colour as the gates.

I heard a rumor that this mosque was built specifically to stop and otther development in that area.. typical of kuwait ..

that's expected man.....y so surprised, all the kuwaiti projects that were refused in the last 30 to 40 years are going to other GCC countries now.....o talking about the reason they refused this project....well let me put it for u this way....there were aloooot of big guys trying to get involved during the time....that was the main reason behind it cancelation....

We don't deserve a project like this, a country that want to grow and rise really deserve it. They really like it this way. We are busy in day dreaming guys. So when we wake up it will be too late to do any kind of any project, I guess they'll allow bars then. Allah yester
