Look at the planning, where are they going to find extra spaces for parking to make up 4000 lots?

Oh and another thing, there's a rumour that the Gunung Lang township will be building a megamall with the size of 5million sq ft.

http://taipingcoffee.blogspot.com/2011/12/track-record-o-f-gunung-lang-dev-sb.html

No artist impression out yet but you know how large is 5 million sq ft?
That's like almost 5 times the size of Aeon Station 18.
Something the size of Mid Valley Megamall or 1 Utama Phase 1&2 combined.

The Gunung Lang housing developer and realty agents keep promoting this now to potential buyers. I'm not sure if it turns out another tale or not. How is the developer going to finance such mega project?

Here's some facts about Ipoh.

Did you know that Ipoh is ONE of the left out forgotten areas for National Economic Development Regions of Malaysia?

We have the NCER, ECER, Iskandar Development Regions, Sabah Development Corridor and Sarawak Development corridor. - Total 5.

"With the creation of the East Coast Economic Region, nearly the whole of Peninsular Malaysia has been converted into Economic Regions with the exceptions being Northern Johor, Southern Perak and Southern Negeri Sembilan."

Ipoh is not included in the NCER.

Why is it so. Study carefully the 3 exemptions and you will understand further.

so? this is 2012, and in accelerating the economic development, the govt only provide guideline/basis, and it is the private that will drive the economic growth. Loook at SCORE, ECER and NCER, just compare annual economic growth before and after ER. selamat mencuba :)

maju is one thing....... kalau boleh biar selaras dgn kemajuan insaniah..... It's sad to see Malaysian loitering at the shopping complex, doing nothing.... really an eyesore..... and soon, this mat or minah will become a mat rempit or mat kereta..... That is why the development of a city must be in tandem with the development of human "behaviour"....... Sebab sekarang ni dah makin banyak mat motor dan ah beng kereta...... nak bersiar2 pun dah kurang besh....

They are going to tear down the old market to build the Ipoh Hilton
http://ipohtalk.com/photos/data/514/namethis7.jpg

Hot news for our wet market!!

The traffic around this area is always congested. Traffic congestion makes loading and unloading impossible. It is one of the reasons KL Central Market was converted into a cultural centre. With hypermarkets mushrooming and most if not all housing estates have their own wet markets, I welcome this idea. Will it be well-received by certain group is another question. Anyway, hope we can get confirmation for this latest news.

20,000 pengguna kenderaan lega
http://www.utusan.com.my/utusan/info.asp?y=2012&dt=0104&pub=utusan_malaysia&sec=Utara&pg=wu_01.htm&arc=hive

ZAMBRY Abd. Kadir (tengah) meninjau keadaan jalan baharu ketika merasmikan pembukaan jalan alternatif keluar dari pekan Bercham ke Lebuh Raya Utara Selatan di Ipoh, semalam.

IPOH 3 Jan.

Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd.

http://www.utusan.com.my/utusan/info.asp?y=2012&dt=0105&pub=utusan_malaysia&sec=Utara&pg=wu_02.htm&arc=hive

IPOH 4 Jan. - Perak berjaya memungut kutipan hasil sebanyak RM812.6 juta iaitu lebihan sebanyak RM28.2 juta berbanding anggaran RM784.4 juta selepas akuan tahun kewangan 2011 ditutup sebelum 31 Disember lalu.

Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd.

Over saturated is not good.

Just as what happened to Megamall Pinang and Mindlands Park Mall in Penang.

A healthy rental rate of 80% of mall shops is required before putting a stop to mall constructions.

If they go further sooner of later the older one would just be abandoned.

Ipoh at this moment only has to compete between Aeon Kinta City and Ipoh Parade.
Once Station 18 opens, we should already see close to maximum occupancy.

Not sure once Sunway's mall opens.

I hope Daiso opens in Station 18.

Besides that I would also like to see Subway, Manhattan Fish Market, Adidas Store, Best Denki, Harvey Norman, Popeyes, Genki Sushi, Dominos Pizza, Borders, Apple Store

It seems that they really gonna build shopping mall around Sunway City area.
I wonder would it be like Sunway Carnivall Seberang Perai?!

How big is the land we're talking about here? Should be around the same size as Sunway Carnival, Seberang Prai. Give it another 3 years it should be ready for Ipoh's crowd by then. But as soon as it opens, I'm sure the demand for the current Jusco area in Ipoh Gardens and Medan Ipoh will start to drop.

Focus will be shifted to Tambun as well as Station 18.

Ipoh Hilton - signs and indications that visitors are coming to our hometown. Proud to be an Ipoh Mali!

honestly....don't fancy Hilton since their frequent visitor card is not as good in term of offer compare Sheraton's SPG or Marriott rewards :) that's what I feel. Since Hilton point have expiration......

plus its nothing to feel proud since Hilton is not the highest quality in Hilton family. Conrad should be the top range.... hehe getting greedy. If Conrad decide to come to Ipoh then it will be shocking (since KL didn't have it yet)

Visit Perak Year 2012 preparations gathering momentum

By ELWEEN LOKE
elween@thestar.com.my

INTERNATIONAL journalists and travel agents will be arriving in Ipoh alongside tourists during Visit Perak Year 2012.

Datuk Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim said invitations would be sent out to members of the Tourism Promotion Organisation for Asia Pacific Cities.
The organisation, with a membership of over 100 cities in Australia, China, Japan and Russia, plays a key role in helping member cities lead the
tourism industry.

“We hope these journalists and travel agents will promote our city after returning from the familiarisation tour,” Roshidi said in his speech during the council’s full board meeting last week.

The tour, he said, would be organised by the Ipoh City Council with help from the organisation and is expected to take place in the first quarter of the year.

To accommodate the influx of tourists during VPY 2012, Roshidi said the council had issued 29 planning permissions for the development of hotels.

It had also approved the building plans of 23 new hotels, he added.
“This shows that Ipoh has great potential in the tourism industry,” he said.

Roshidi said the council would also undertake several projects to ensure the safety of tourists as they moved around in the city, in line with the
Safe City concept.

“We are hoping to get a RM2.2mil allocation to create motorcycle bays with locks and install pedestrian barriers along walkways, safety mirrors and warning signboards at 18 hotspots identified by the police,” he said.
Roshidi said street crime in the city, especially snatch thefts, had been reduced by 45% from 116 cases in 2010, to 59 cases last year.

AEON sasar buka 5 hingga 8 cawangan baru
http://utusan.com.my/utusan/info.asp?y=2012&dt=0114&pub=utusan_malaysia&sec=Korporat&pg=ko_04.htm&arc=hive

KUALA LUMPUR 13 Jan. - AEON Co. (M) Bhd.

Streets filled with bright decorations as Lunar New Year approaches
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/1/17/metroperak/10269711&sec=metroperak

THE cheer and festive spirit for Chinese New Year is in full swing throughout Ipoh, with bright red coloured lanterns, big and small, popping up in restaurants, shopping complexes, streets and even temples.

Decorations of all shapes and sizes can be found in shops, like the ones along Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar.

Motorists cruising through Jalan Sultan Iskandar at night would have noticed the red lanterns, strung across the street and lit up at night.

The lanterns have also added a dash of colour to the roundabouts, namely the Jalan Sultan Iskandar and Jalan C.M. Yusuff roundabouts.

An even brighter collection of these symbolic decorations could be found at the Goddess of Mercy temple along Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, where devotees visiting the temple can see the ceiling in the main hall covered to the brim with lanterns.

Apart from the traditional lanterns, motorists driving along Jalan Tambun will also see flowers and old Chinese coins as decorations that are particularly captivating at night.

^^ nice

Poh Kong to open 101st store in Ipoh
http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/1/10/business/20120110134548&sec=business

KUALA LUMPUR: Jeweller Poh Kong Holdings Bhd will open its 101st store in the country at the new Aeon Ipoh Station 18 shopping centre in March.

Its head of corporate affairs, administration and human resources Margaret Hon also told journalists after the company's AGM that demand for gold, which shot up around the second half of 2011 at the heat of the euro zone debt crisis, would remain resilient this year.

“Gold prices have been choppy. It is now trending down, but should be up again,” Hon said.

Executive chairman and group managing director Datuk Choon Yee Seiong added that if further conflict erupted in the Middle East, it could send prices surging by as much as 30%. Gold is largely perceived to be a safe haven asset in times of crisis.

For the financial year ending July 31, 2012 (FY12), Poh Kong - which is Malaysia's largest retail jewellery operator - is hoping to maintain the 20% growth momentum in revenue it saw last year.

In FY11, Poh Kong's revenue grew by 23.4% to RM692.42mil from RM561.24mil a year ago while net profit advanced 26.7% to RM41.21mil from RM32.52mil.

As at 12.30pm, gold was up 0.25% to US$1,615.62 per ounce.

So far confirmed from the news and their respective FB sites:

from http://ipohecho.com.my/v2/2012/01/16/atrio-lang-valley/

A new commercial development has been launched in Lang Valley (Desa Lang Indah) with a gross development value of RM85 million. Located strategically within minutes from Ipoh city centre and the highly populated residential and commercial areas of Ipoh Garden, Bercham, Tasek, Chemor and Meru, the development comprises 72 units of 20’x85’ 3 and 4-storey Lifestyle Shops (some with basements) which are well suited for retail, food and beverage, entertainment and offices.

The development is situated within the upcoming 90-acre commercial vicinity of Lang Valley, where a retail anchor tenant, commercial shops, fast-food drive-through outlets, a hotel and apartments are planned. Easily accessible are Taman Rekreasi Gunung Lang, Kinta City Shopping Centre, Tesco Hypermarket, Pantai Hospital Ipoh, Hospital Permaisuri Bainun and most schools in the city.

Boasting North-South Expressway frontage Atrio @ Lang Valley is directly accessible via a newly-completed interchange, located between the Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (Jalan Kuala Kangsar) and Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah Utara exits, in the north-bound direction. This interchange connects to the Lang Valley residential neighbourhood and Jalan Kuala Kangsar.

30 petani, penternak kecewa
NURUL MAZWANA HAMDAN
January 12, 2012

ECONSAVE SUPERMART TO BE "NERVE CENTRE" TO KLEBANG CENTRE POINT

IPOH, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- The Econsave Supermarket, slated for completion in June next year, will serve as the "nerve centre" to Klebang Centre Point, a new growth area under the Ipoh City Council.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Roshidi Hashim said the RM18 million supermarket was among major projects to be built at the 4.6ha commercial development area in Klebang, near here.

The Klebang Centre Point is developed by the Liew Yin Yin Group under a strategic alliance between the group and Econsave Cash & Carry Sdn Bhd.

"The project bears testimony that Ipoh City and its surrounding areas are the focus of physical development, investments, economic and social growth centres.

"Upon completion, the supermarket will offer 150 jobs to locals," he told reporters after opening the Klebang Centre point.

later, he witnessed the signing of an agreement between Liew Yin Yin Group and Econsave Cash & Carry Sdn Bhd.

Liew Yin Yin Group director Ir Don Liew Mun Hon and Econsave executive director Lai Sia Ling signed the agreement.

Roshidi said a budget hotel would also be built in the area which would contribute to tourism development in the area.

"The Ipoh City Council has also received applications to open a drive-through fast-food outlet in the area.

"Currently, the construction of the Poi Lam Primary School in the area is progressing smoothly and is expected to be completed before year-end," he said.

The Mayor said the Klebang Centre Point will be the people''s focal point due to its strategic location at the main route to Meru Raya, another new growth centre.

Meanwhile, Liew said his group was investing RM50 million in the project, which among others, would include building 99 shophouses of various specifications.

He said 23 shophouses would be built under the first phase, including the Econsave Supermarket and other facilities.

Meanwhile, the Klebang Centre Point provides several facilities for the locals to enjoy a comfortable social life.

"With the development of the Medan Gopeng area and the setting up of Tune Hotel, a budget hotel, the city council believes it can bolster economic activities in Klebang and Chemor areas, hence fuelling further growth to Ipoh City," he added.

Just imagine a big redevelopment project to change Wallet court to something like a mall like Central Market.

I know it will be bad for the people who love to stay at city centre but since near by there's vacant land that can build new flat/ apartment.

it just look interesting if the wallet court building can have a new usage.

It just look nice from this view with its crescent shape layout. Didn't notice that till I saw this picture.

Bina bangunan tinggi: DCA perlu lebih praktikal
http://www.utusan.com.my/utusan/info.asp?y=2012&dt=0126&pub=utusan_malaysia&sec=Dalam_Negeri&pg=dn_12.htm&arc=hive

IPOH 25 Jan. - Jabatan Penerbangan Awam (DCA) diminta menimbang semula peraturan melarang pembinaan bangunan pencakar langit di sekitar bandar raya ini kerana ia dilihat menghalang proses pembangunan di ibu negeri ini.

Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd.

Perak MB wants DCA to review ban on tall buildings in Ipoh
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/1/25/nation/20120125174712&sec=nation

IPOH: The Perak state government has urged the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to review its ban on the construction of tall buildings in Ipoh as it would affect development, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.

He said the regulation enforced since the 1950s obstructed the state government's efforts to develop Ipoh into a modern city.

"The state government urges the DCA to revise this ban so that we can turn Ipoh into a city with recognisable landmarks, including tall buildings. We understand tall buildings cannot be build near the airport due to safety reasons.

"But that ruling should not apply to surrounding areas of Ipoh," he told reporters after chairing a state exco meeting here Wednesday.

Zambry hoped DCA would discuss the matter with the state government.

He said the restriction, which was set to prevent air traffic interference at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, should only be imposed in areas with air traffic, and not for the whole city.

"This revision can be done, especially since there is new technology like navigation system for air traffic...to conclude that no high-rise buildings can be built in the city is difficult to accept, so we want the department to give its views on this," he said. - Bernama

Well few kilometers to land transport is not near but for airplane its just a distance achieve in a split second. I used to play "Flight Simulation" in Google Earth and found that Ipoh airport is really near to the city :-) I hope a new airport with higher capacity will be built a little farther so it can accommodate larger aircraft and remove the restriction of city development.

Aviation rules decide Ipoh’s building height

LUMUT: The restriction on the height of buildings in Ipoh is based on International Civil Aviation 0rganisation (ICAO) requirements, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said.

He said the requirements were imposed for safety reasons and that he would ask the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to brief the Perak Government on the matter.

He was commenting on reports quoting Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir asking DCA to review its ban on tall buildings in order to turn Ipoh into one with recognisable landmarks.

Dr Zambry said the restriction should be confined to areas with air traffic for the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport and not surrounding areas.

There must be ways for DCA to lift the ban for Ipoh if DCA people know how Kai Tak Airport (Hong Kong) worked but Hong Kong at that time already had so many tall buildings. If this cannot not be done, move the Ipoh airport to other part of Perak. DCA:bash:

Fair enough, but when Kai Tak was the primary airport for Hong Kong, there was also a height restriction in place for the Kowloon area. If you remember, the high-rise towers in TST area were all only 15 levels or thereabout, during those days (e.g. Sheraton, Ocean Terminal blocks, Hyatt Regency, etc.). Only when Kai Tak closed and operations shifted to the new HKIA in Chek Lap Kok, was the height restriction lifted and the skyscrapers started shooting up in Kowloon (Peninsula Hotel extension, then to taller ones like the new Hyatt Regency and ICC buildings), destroying the uniform skyline for good.

This explains why Ipoh has such a flat skyline, precisely because of the proximity of the airport to the City Center. As such, it will be a good move to relocate the Airport to somewhere more spacious and not an obstruction to the future development of the Central District.

same also for KK city centre which the restriction apply for building in the city centre cannot more than certain height as the city centre is directly within the flight path of planes. The airport is just about 7 km away and the airport is one of the busiest in Malaysia.

but for the case of ipoh, the airport is not that near but the restriction apply for the whole city centre. Ipoh city centre is much bigger than KK city centre while the airport only has very few flight (about 2 or 3 flight per day ). I never see any plane fly very near to city centre as my house also very near to the city centre

The Chek Lap Kok Airport opened for commercial operations in 1998, replacing Kai Tak. But Peninsular Hotel, located between Ocean Terminal blocks and Sheraton, was expanded with a 30-story office tower in 1994. This could be an exceptional case. So the Ipoh Airport is better to be relocated elsewhere further from Ipoh CBD for good.
I remember that when KL was still using Subang Airport, KL already had many tall building. Perhaps changing the route/direction of landing on Ipoh Airport would help.

What do doctors know about town planning? They know nuts.
We have lots of doctors who become politicians that don't even know what they're doing.

Only a sick person would take joy watching a plane crashes into civilian homes if accidents were to happen one day. What is the potential for this airport to expand further in future to accommodate international flights? None.

What are the demographics mostly around the area? Population mainly consists of Chinese.
From Jalan Kampar and Pasir Pinji.

By just looking at Google maps you can see the already see how close homes are surrounding the airport area. There's little land to even expand the runway or improve anything further.

Point B is Aeon Station 18
http://i.imgur.com/kXwgd.jpg
This is becoming Ipoh's golden triangle and notice how near the airport is?
What is even more dangerous is that this area is RIGHT inside the airplane path because planes flying to Singapore fly across this route.
Can you imagine if the plane fails to take off and shoots right into the Station 18 area?
Planes heading to Singapore takes off from the left end of the airport to heard straight as it ascends.

Point B is one of Ipoh's tallest building - Damai Puri Condominiums
http://i.imgur.com/WGmsC.jpg
Is just within walking and cycling distance?
The MB Residence is just around the corner from Jln. Kampar and so is Greentown.

If it's not time to move the airport out from the city then what else?
There is so much valuable land surrounding it.

I totally agreed - the airport has to be relocated to another area (not too distance from Ipoh city though) but it has to be out of the CBD or must be at least 10 - 15 km radius away from the CBD surroundings.

My home is in Taman Mansion and it's pretty close to the airport - well good for me in the past to fly home from KLIA and it's so close! In order to accommodate international flights with boeing 747 or 737 or 767, the current Ipoh airport has to be relocated to elsewhere. I am not sure why to waste money to extend the current domestic airport.

Mind people, it only takes one accident to make people aware of the danger and we have to avoid this to happen in Ipoh! The airport is surrounded by many residences!

Pelan pemodenan Ipoh dilaksana

Oleh ROKIAH ABDULLAH
rokiah.abdullah@utusan.com.my

IPOH 30 Jan.

Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd.

I wonder have they thought about a strategic town planning? Are they trying to turn Ipoh into an unplanned city CBD like KL with tall buildings everywhere - hence causing the jam at all times?

They should consider putting all tall buildings in one central location called CBD then improve public transports with good access of LRT and buses to encourage the use of public transport to the CBD. Impose limitation of large scale transportations in and out of the CBD to free up traffic during peak hours.

I think they should consider other western city CBDs for guidance. Better yet, check out what the Singapore Government has excelled in this area!

I wonder how many of the abovementioned developments are actually approved and go ahead? They should aim for quality and larger (doesn't mean taller, but wider like Jusco type, if height restriction is an issue). They need to consider both the interior and exterior designs to enchance and complement to the landscape of the city. Exterior has to be eye-catching and sustainable. Interior has to be accommodating, spacious for large events / shows and gatherings. Plenty of quality food options (Ipoh is famous for food and also known as Food Paradise in Malaysia - this has to be maintained and well promoted within the nation).

We need to realise our competitive advantages in Ipoh. Local government should consider expanding the food business and non traditional business activities to encourage younger generations to take up this profession to prosper the local economy. They should survey how many outsiders actually travel to Ipoh for FOOD each year - my understanding is LOTS!

So a city/state for food and sustainable eco-friendly tourism (be close with nature - limestones, etc) and IT computer and biomedical or health services focused economy, this will definitely get Ipoh alive again. Traditional economy isn't working anymore with such a ever fast changing world economy and we have to transform into a futuristic and innovative economy based city to compete with other cities of Malaysia. This attracts young talents (Gen Ys or Zs) to venture and be creative in their futures. We need to understand and know what to attact and retain them!

I like to see better quality infrastrutures, quality of life and well-planned & designed city development in Ipoh - we want Ipoh to be a city to impress and envied by other states and cities. This sleepy tiger of the west is about time to wake up and shine to the rest of the nation!

22) Giant Bercham? That building built by Yu Neh Huat is fugly. I guess maybe Giant halted their initial plans to open an outlet there after being dissatisfied with the building work?

24) Ipoh Parade expansion? The expansion will see a new hotel block and a private medical centre? Why would they expand the mall further when there's no more supermarket there?
1st Cold Storage already shut down then Giant Supermarket moved in ..also shut down.
This mall has no supermarket now....

25) The low rise/cost apartment in front of The Haven project when you enter the site is spoiling the whole view of the project. How can they build flats in front of a prestigious project main gate? I guess they wanted to naik the land value of the area only but not a strategic idea.

27) AEON Klebang? That place is halfway to Sungai Siput. Lots of Samy Vellu friends all live there in that area. No such intention by Jusco but there's plan for a 5million sq feet mall to be build at [b] Gunung Lang Township.

Additional information:

You left out Sunway Lost World Shopping Mall Plans.
They have already registered their plans with the city council to develop a 4 storey mall.Refer a few pages back.

Yu Neh Huat is a good developer that knew what the customer wants and at the same time maximize their profit. Look how ugly and old tech Toyata Avanza is, a vehicle with ladder frame and 4 speed auto and definitely no crash assesment. But in terms of profit, toyota won, because it fit the purpose; a rather economic people mover that rarely broke down. The same goes to Yu Neh Huat. For this Giant, definitely looks matter less. But if you look into YNH's project in the middle of KL city, that's definitely a world apart. That's just my 2 cents.

My facts are correct and accurate.

The Haven regards itself as a prestigious and exclusive 5 star project only to be shaded by low cost flats on one of its frontal view?

Why I call them flats? You can see the tenants there some are lorry drivers which park their lorries on the grass field right in front of the entrants.
The Haven potential buyers and the tenants of the flats are worlds apart.

I've never said they're building it's already built and completed.

But why build a 5 star residence in front of some flat like that?
So much for its unrestricted view.

You're referring to 163 Residences at Jln. Perak?

I don't think that is what Bercham customers want. That building just looks like a wet market and a company which only prioritize maximum profit is only trying to make a fast buck out of Giant and its leased tenants.

To tell you the truth, Toyota Avanza was created for 3rd world markets such as Indonesia and probably made its way into Malaysia. They fitted a small car engine into a MPV. The ones selling in Japan, Taiwan and Europe is the Toyota Wish a higher grade product.

Progress of Ipoh Airport :

Terminal building renovation is being done in two stages. Like Harvey Dent's two faces. Half of the terminal sports a new roof structure while the other half still bearing the old structure and facade. I guess this is to minimize disruptions to Firefly twice daily service to Singapore.

Perak Aero Club compound and small aircraft maintenance site has been closed and filled with construction machinery. Apron will be extended from in front of Integrated Training and Services hangar to combine it with taxiway from Perak Aero Club.

Runway 22 threshold extension construction is in progress.

Unit Udara Polis base is complete now. Very big. Also APFT has a detachment in Ipoh consists of 4 single engine aircraft. Ipoh is active airfield for training. Too bad Integrated Training and Services went bankrupt because of money mismanagement.

Regarding building height restrictions in Ipoh :

DCA has their point. No buildings shall be built taller than what they restrict because Ipoh airport is very close to the city. As a pilot who frequently fly into Ipoh during weekends (small aircraft) it's a fairly marginal airport in terms of space available in the event of missed approach. Terrains to the left, right, pose hazard to aircraft not being in visual condition. DCA has their own point of view.

Unless government wants to spend a radar for Ipoh Airport, i dont think removing height restrictions will do any good in terms of safety of flights.

FYI information Ipoh does not have active radar monitoring. ATC and pilots depend on info they relay during communications and published approach procedures for IFR traffic going in and out of the airfield.

Some might say Hong Kong can build tall buildings but when you want to compare with Ipoh, please take into account terrain that surround Ipoh city.

Ipoh already had gone through so many years of struggle for the building restriction that seriously affect the city development. Why not the Ipoh town council plan to move the airport the other place that is far enough for the city build building taller than 20 storey instead of just extending the runway for another 200m that cannot be even used by Boeing 747.

Pelan pemodenan Ipoh dilaksana

Oleh ROKIAH ABDULLAH
rokiah.abdullah@utusan.com.my

IPOH 30 Jan.

Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd.

can't say it this way too. like some of the remark here, not necessary it need mega structure to make ipoh unique. I remember well when I used to travel to Netherlands frequently, the building that caught my attention when taking train out from airport is not mega structure but the ship like structure for ING HQ.

If we keep on getting developer like Keris and Morubina with those ugly skyscrapper or tall building. Then I rather prefer no skyscrapper.

also, the Old town and New town area is time to consider skyscrapper free so it keep most of the colonial era stuff around. The destruction to some of those shops is bad since nowadays those are stuff which can attract tourist

i don't like the idea of a old town with low rise building then mix it in new modern tower in it like KL, nmpk serabut, it would be better if the highrise are build in a new area..

even png, singapore n mlk are preserving what left of it..it would be good for ipoh to do the same..it a very enjoyable expirience driving around ipoh old town, plz don't screw it up

Now only got 4 high rise inside old town area and there's no more vacant land in old town to build another high rise.

Most of tall buildings in the photos area actually located at greentown and new town. Greentown is completely new developed area and modern building suit very well if want to build there...state govmnt already plan to build a convention centre with two towers next to MBI building

btw did YNH able to build the high rise along Jalan Tun Dr Ismail at KL. But tht is for KL golden triangle ...I remember the illustration looks very good....very un-YNH hehe.... but of course you won't expect they bring the same thing to Ipoh and Lumut.....oh wait. Better go to the Sitiawan / Lumut thread to see how Seri Manjung Jusco look like. It might be very un-YNH too
