That is a simple, stunning, yet elegant design!

Hope to see it built!

This is incredible! Only one building in USA is taller than that and Ningbo is not even one of China's largest cities.

Doesnt it seem almost incredible that they would finish them in less then 2 years from now considering that they havent even started yet? If compared to the Guangzhou twin towers that are lower, has started construction AND have a later estimated completion date (2009).... They are really great looking though! Really interesting lines and the top feels very natural!

i found this on google:

apparently this map was before the new project

New City of Ningbo

Ningbo, which is China's second largest port, and a city well known for its seafood, fashion industry and longstanding intellectual traditions, is undergoing considerable growth from its current population of 1.6 million to over 3 million by 2040. The project called for a master plan for a 37 sq km site to house 350,000 people, with a 7 sq km commercial and cultural centre.
Dating from AD700, the old centre is not capable of containing facilities for a modern capital without endangering its integrity. The new city centre is designed to compliment the old centre, with a range of new public and cultural, entertainment and sporting facilities.
The HASSELL Hyder design, sub-titled "One City Two Centres", suggests that the new and old centres be linked together by a high capacity underground rapid transit light rail system, enabling them to work as one.

In 2008 they will be the 7th and 8th tallest in the World.

The height may be a mistake. Read that they were two 240m towers, not 480. No way buildings that high could be done in two years - but 240 is would be easy. The ICC won't be done till 2008 and its well underway. Plus, no floor count is listed and they look like 300m or less. Maybe a single 480m was replaced w smaller twins...dont' recall where I heard this maybe someone else does.

May be, here? -

So, I guess, 480 meters is possible, no doubt.
Chinese people build very quickly.

480m is waste of money and labour force

the buliding now is already more than needed

when will be the construction start?

z0rg

^^ I don't think they have been approved. Maybe they'll build a shorter couple, who knows.

BTW, both Hangzhou and Wuxi are getting tons of biggies these years. I don't understand why Ningbo shouldn't be able. Ningbo is not only one of the wealthiest cities in China Mainland. It was listed as world's fourth busiest port by cargo tonnage in 2005. It hosts some very important companies such as Ningbo Bird and many hi-tech industries. A 480m twin project might ambitious, but not too much for Ningbo.

well, locals in Ningbo say it's population is over 6 000 000 and it's growing fast (they add also, that Ningbo is not a big city:)). 15 years ago it was only over 1 500 000. I meet in Ningbo people that came to work here from suburbs, even from other provinces, like Anhui.
Big construction sites in Ningbo are everywhere. I think a couple of supertalls would be very relevant in Ningbo, no doubt!

No, a white elephant is something that a city may not need soon.
