Notre-Dame Basilica was opened in 1829 as the largest religious edifice in North America. This neo-gothic masterpiece is located in Vieux-Montreal and well-known for its gorgeous interior. This is the most beautiful cathedral i've seen so far! :) All pics were taken during christmas 2004:

Did you go behind to see the 'golden' room?

It's beautiful but almost too colorful. Isn't there a modern addition behind the cathedral? Saw it on a tour and it looked quite alright as well.

Beautiful building. I see it everyday. At night specially, old montreal does not look or feel like North America. :cheers:

I also love the square (Place d'Armes) that the basilica fronts onto. Old Montreal's great for taking evening walks, coz it's large enough that most of it isn't swamped by tourism, plus it turns out to be the quietest city neighbourhood to stroll and unwind in at that time of day.

Great pics but I dont think it's the largest religious edifice in North America. I think St. Patrick cathedral in NY and Oratoire St-Joseph in Montreal are larger...
