Now that's some steep stands!!! I love this ground and will visit it soon as i'm going to the Villarreal/Rangers game in February, and Villarreal's ground is nearby. Can any of our Spanish chums tell me what is happening with Valencia and Athletico Madrids new stadiums? Are they going to build them or is it all pie in the sky?

lpioe April 2nd, 2008, 03:15 PM I guess this one will be destroyed when the new one is finished?
cocteau April 3rd, 2008, 12:06 AM Yes, it will be demolished and the field will remain as public park (as a reminder of old mestalla) and on the side lying to the main avenue, they will put up buildings (3 or 4 if I am not wrong).
Kuvvaci April 4th, 2008, 04:48 PM how old is this stadium? most of current stadia in Spain is at this condition for now. I understand why Spanish teams started to build new stadiums.
AvFenix April 4th, 2008, 06:59 PM how old is this stadium? most of current stadia in Spain is at this condition for now. I understand why Spanish teams started to build new stadiums.
Built in 1923, but was refurbished in 1950's, 1982 and 1998.
Demetrius April 7th, 2008, 01:01 PM Well, it may be old, out-dated even dangerous at some point, but it has a unique charm and tons of character. For me, along with stadiums like Bernabeu, Camp Nou, Sanchez Pijuan & San Mames, Mestalla stands as the definition of the "Spanish type" of football fields. A reminicent of an era that is now becoming history...You gotta love the steapness of these upper tiers!:master::dizzy:
Quintana April 7th, 2008, 02:26 PM I love those classic Spanish stadiums with their steep tiers and stands close to the pitch. Mestalla is probably my favourite of the lot (although Bernabeu and Ruiz de Lopera are also nice).

bing222 October 22nd, 2008, 05:19 AM Great photos
kazetuner October 22nd, 2008, 06:32 AM does anybody know the angle of the upper tier? because it seems as steep as La Bombonera and Bernabeu, and those have 45 °...
Demetrius October 22nd, 2008, 11:23 AM Goodness Gracious!!! :scouserd::bow: :rock::shocked:

F.C. Valencia will never be the same again...But that's how things go in life. You can't stop progress...
Zorba October 22nd, 2008, 04:40 PM Really ugly stadium, but I do admire its history and the steepness of the stands which all in all make it a classic football ground.
Ficus October 22nd, 2008, 05:08 PM This might be the last season at this stadium...
bing222 October 23rd, 2008, 11:29 AM I think that it is the steepest stadium in the world
Vilak December 23rd, 2008, 04:31 PM very impressive pics. that's steep!!!!!
Zeno2 December 23rd, 2008, 10:36 PM What will happen with Mastalla once the new stadium is completed? Demolished I guess?
CVR December 23rd, 2008, 10:40 PM i like steap tiers with a high degree (more than 60 degree :D )
It is the adrenalin and the fear of highness with football atmosphere which makes you crazy
www.sercan.de December 24th, 2008, 12:10 AM I think the steepest stands are 45°
Jim856796 December 30th, 2008, 03:38 AM Are the stands of the Mestalla Stadium the steepest spectator stands of any stadium in the world?
www.sercan.de December 30th, 2008, 12:33 PM http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1210/1242746383_884170fac6_o.jpg+sketchup
i've measured ~44°
So it could be like Bernabeu or Boca 3rd tier 45°.
But this one has got more rows.
PaulFCB December 30th, 2008, 12:44 PM Talking about all the 3 tiers, Mestalla should be the steepest.
I love this type of stadium, staying so up high in the 3rd tier and being so close to the pitch.
Quintana December 30th, 2008, 08:41 PM It will be dearly missed, that's for certain.
kuquito January 19th, 2009, 04:17 AM This type of grounds usually have amazing visibility due to the height.
It will certainly be missed
PaulFCB January 19th, 2009, 04:24 PM I wonder whats the reason all of the clubs insist of building the new stadium less steep.
Except for the clubs that eliminate old style oval + athletics field ( Juventus, Espanyol, Zenit or Shaktior, eastern European teams still suffering from the communist style stadiums ) there's no advantage with the new ones except more seats. The could easily build new and bigger stadiums in the same classic way.
Highbury >>> Emirates
Mestalla >>> Nou Mestalla
And examples may continue, especially in England where they're classic stands are superb.
www.sercan.de January 19th, 2009, 04:30 PM New stadium have more suites and the hospitality (lounges, restaurants etc) is bigger.
PaulFCB January 19th, 2009, 04:56 PM Yeah, I got the idea there's going to be more seats ( so more suits ) but that doesn't mean they can't build the new stands the same way the others were.
www.sercan.de January 19th, 2009, 06:24 PM steep stands are more expensive and not so comfortable :)
PaulFCB January 19th, 2009, 06:26 PM Why not? Maybe not 100% like Old Mestalla but more close to it+first rows more closer to the ptich.
www.sercan.de January 19th, 2009, 06:30 PM You have the FIFA rules
+6m at the sights and +7,5m at the goals stands.

Interior / corridor is really ugly
http://www.stadionwelt.de/neu/sw_stadien/index.php?folder=sites&site=stadionfotos_detail&id=1833&ordner=sonstige&page=1
skaP187 April 13th, 2009, 12:01 AM That´s where the difference is with the nothern European countries. There outside and facilities are more important.
My opinion, I don´t give a s... (okay, maybe a s..., but not much more then a s...) about the outside. Facilities? It would be nice when the toilets are more or less clean, then you can atleast take your lady to a game without emberasment. But I woulnot care less if I can get double max cheeseburger special menu or something.
The times I went to England I defuantly prefered the older stadiums over the new ones. Maybe I am getting old and to much nostalgic...:ohno:
Here in Spain we still have loads of old crappy stadium. Ugly from the outside, but to my opion beautifull arenas from the inside.
I still have to see if the new/ nou mestella can live up against the old one.
It looks promising I have to say.
MTF April 13th, 2009, 12:03 AM Shame that it won't be around after few years. Love those steep stands.
bing222 April 13th, 2009, 03:05 AM The stands are very steep does anyone have any photos from the top of the western stand
www.sercan.de April 13th, 2009, 02:57 PM there have been some pics on previous pages
fgdf June 3rd, 2009, 01:56 AM What is height of the top seating row?
Mordaunt-S June 20th, 2009, 11:51 PM Beautiful stadium, not the biggest in Spain but those steap tiers make it the prettiest for me together with the Bernabeu
mamangvilla June 24th, 2009, 12:42 AM well well.... another victim of modernisation...:(:(:( it will surely be missed. i really love the types like mestalla, ramon sanchez pizjuan, manuel luiz de lopera or la bombonera, they are offering the fans with high level of intimacy with the game. i think people come to a stadium wishing for a great football match, not a great toilets or facilities. i hope the new one will at least have the same atmosphere level as this one.
jj707070 August 17th, 2009, 06:13 PM As I remember,CF Valencia has some problems with money, that is why they decided to build a new stadium a little bit later. http://web-statistic.org/catalog/out.php?s_id=1

o.S.T.mus.tis.nt. April 23rd, 2011, 08:29 PM Wow:nuts::nuts:, that 3rd thier is soooo steep.:nuts:
94rocket April 23rd, 2011, 08:38 PM Oh!! So nice and Big the stadium of Valencia City that so beautiful images and that big spectacle this final between the Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
R.K.Teck April 23rd, 2011, 09:52 PM Wow! On my first time in the upper tier at my team's ground I was scared I was going to fall off even though I was quite far from the edge and that would have only been a 45 degree tier!
That upper tier looks nausiating! Still. Worth it for good views in upper tiers!! ;)
skaP187 April 26th, 2011, 04:58 PM I was there last year on the top and it wasn´t 45 degrees, near, but not (messured it). Thought it was doable to be hounest
Axelferis April 26th, 2011, 06:18 PM too steep imo even it's not dangerous it could afraid old people or the youngests
massp88 April 27th, 2011, 04:49 AM I noticed there are 2 or 3 sections that are covered off, did the match not sellout?
canarywondergod April 27th, 2011, 11:13 PM I noticed there are 2 or 3 sections that are covered off, did the match not sellout?
I think thats a sightline problem that the roof of the main stand obscures the pitch from the corner of that stand, so rather then sell impaired view tickets its just tarped off.
