Have they actually shown any desire to do such a project or are they happy with the current capacity? I know they sell out every CL and old firm game but I pretty sure they don't sell out in other less appealling SPL or scottish cup games.

I know that it has been vaguely mentioned over the last few years but nothing solid.

They averaged 57,671 last season and as far as I'm aware have not gone below 56,000 in the last decade so although that it isn't 100% full that is still very impressive considering the league they play in and the small away following that they would get for most games.
I reckon they could get another 5/6,000 on a regular basis against the smaller teams if they expanded. Considering the poor state the South (Main) Stand is in a new stand which would improve the facilites, improve and extend their hospitality as well expanding their capacity would be worth it in my eyes.

Averaging 57,000 is very good considering the quality of the rest of the SPL.

Exacltly and that figure is even more impresive when you consider that this stadium doesn't have the greatest facilities, the exceptionally strict policing they get at theit games (capacity is reduced by something like 1,000+ for segregation of fans) so that really is impressive.

This stadium has potential it just needs a bit of modernisation to the three two tier stands and an extension with an exciting design to the main stand to make this stadium world class and also more profitable. Doubt we will see it any time soon both Celtic and Rangers seem to have large debts and both seem to be spending less and less so although it might well happen eventually it won't be for another 6/7 years I would guess.

This stadium is very early to mid 90's I haven't been there but I can tell just from looking at it what it's like because there are still plenty of stands and stadiums in England like this.
The facilities need a complete renovation and it would be great if they could rebuild the South Stand with something modern and then it would look great and be a great stadium.

I have to agree with the poster above Ibrox is miles ahead of Celtic Park the only thing Celtic Park has over it is it's bigger.

How on gods earth would you know this if you've never been there?

Ive never been to the Madejski Stadium, but i have been to Deepdale, Loftus Road, the Reebok etc. so I feel I can comment on the stadia where I have been, but not the ones where I havent including your bus stop of a stadium.

strange positioning of floodlights back then!

At the time, they were the tallest free-standing floodlights in the world. Over 200 feet high. ( I forget the accurate height ).

Now they're mounted on the roof. So far less imposing on the Glasgow skyline.

Pre-1986.

How'd the old South Stand get preserved in the reconstructed Celtic Park? Listed building?

No, despite many thinking this is the case, the Main Stand is not listed. It survived because doing a complete rebuild was not in the budget then, and likely won't be for a while.

It's a good stand to watch from.
