Le Pied Atere
what does it mean?

Speed
January 22nd, 2006, 06:21 PM
Pied á terre is a French term. It means an apartment that someone keeps in the city and uses during the work week. They go to their main house in the outer suburbs on the weekends and holidays :)

like upper-class people in England have a townhouse/flat/condo in London, and a country mansion outside London...

thank you speed..this name suitable for langsuan condo or mansion
how to pronounce it?

In the US, I believe you pronounce it something like :"pee-ed ah tearr", but Im sure French speakers will pronouce it differently :D this word is becoming pretty common in English because now many city people have an apartment downtown and also a house in the suburbs...

we have hi-jacked many foreign words into the English language :tongue2:

if the new building is between Marriott Mayfair and Grand Langsuan, I feel a bit sorry for the condo people in Grand Langsuan because they might totally lose their view :uh:

Late last year, one of the big property agencies call me to inform me that this year, the canteen besides grand langsuan will be built into a condo..

spoke to the hair salon staff there and they have been told they have to move this year.. so maybe its that plot.

it it is the other carpark for le pied atere, we will have 2 developments in langsuan

because its on the same side of the street as GrandLangsuan (freehold) and Langsuanville (freehold), I would guess that LePiedAtere is freehold (but just a guess).

One leasehold 2 bedroom unit (129 sqm) in Urbana Langsuan (across the street) which is 29 year leasehold, is on sale for about B84,500 per sqm....<http://www.hamptons.co.th/>

freehold is alot more I would imagine (maybe closer to B110,000 sqm or more)
but I dont think you can beat Soi Langsuan location :colgate:

They changed its name from "Le Pied Aterre" to "Le Pier Aterre".

Do they mean the same?

I have no clue about the meaning, but seems liek they changed the name..:)

RobertoBKK
May 3rd, 2006, 03:21 AM
I guess the real name is Le Pied-a-Terre, simply because it means "lodging for occasional use" in French. Le Pierr Aterre makes no sense in French nor in any other language I know, but who knows, I may be mistaken.

Chad
May 3rd, 2006, 03:26 AM
Hmm, Maybe they just misspelling again....Should be like you said since Speed also mentioned the meaning of Le Pied A Terre earlier too.

Zimoune
May 3rd, 2006, 04:53 AM
Le pied-a-terre means to have something in town when you come over here. Hi-so likes to have a pied-a-terre in each capital cities in the world. But le Pier-Attere is a total misspelling, 'attere' means affraid/estonished and 'pier' is not French at all.

Chad

Ok seems liek they miss-spelled it "as usual:..lol

Pied á terre is a French term. It means an apartment that someone keeps in the city and uses during the work week. They go to their main house in the outer suburbs on the weekends and holidays :)

I wrote the above in an earlier post :)

yes, Zimoune is right of course.... we even use this French word alot in America..... it is common for even normal people to have a small condo in the inner city (like in San Francisco or New York) and we call it a "pied á terre", but the main residence is in the suburbs or even farther out.....

people in Bangkok even do this.....some people have a small condo in the CBD, but they also have a house in the suburbs with green trees :)

I think they just misspelled the name on the billboard.....

I kinda like the design of the building....round bay windows are my favorite....maybe paint the building bright "candy apple" Ferrari red....WOW!! it will stand out in between the old ladies "Marriott Mayfair" and "GrandLangusan" and be famous... :horse:
