Toucano January 22nd, 2006, 05:20 AM Beautiful Updates!
I Like it, It modernizes the property without ruining the existing building...
What is the Theater for though?
Pablo63090 January 22nd, 2006, 09:00 PM Great finds. The thrid tower looks great.
Don Pacho January 22nd, 2006, 10:11 PM Great finds. The thrid tower looks great.
Actually is the 4th tower.
Fontainebleau III is under construction is in front of Tower II and it is not shown in the renderings.
When the entire resort is finished, it will be the largest hotel in Florida.
:okay:
The Mad Hatter!! January 22nd, 2006, 11:30 PM whoa incredible stuff donp. largest hotel in florida yay another achievement for miami...even bigger than the disney hotels?
Don Pacho January 22nd, 2006, 11:47 PM whoa incredible stuff donp. largest hotel in florida yay another achievement for miami...even bigger than the disney hotels?
well, that's what one of the guys at the construction office told me.
That area by the cheese wall and rear buildings will be imploted in april to make room for tower 4.
The idea is to make it like a Las Vegas mega resort. It's going to have a big screen facing collins street (look at that chateau rendering with the Morris Lapidus picture), a look typical of Vegas.
It won't have the gambling but it has the theater and a large new spa.
:)
BornInTheGrove January 23rd, 2006, 01:07 AM Awesomely-Fantastical! When is it all expected to be done?
nimbyhater January 23rd, 2006, 03:58 AM nice... a mega resort... i luv it, and the big screen is great, miami doesnt really have anything like that
Roark January 23rd, 2006, 05:40 AM When the entire resort is finished, it will be the largest hotel in Florida. It is currently the largest piece of privately held real estate in Miami Beach. #2 is Mt. Sinai Medical complex, and the third largest at 16.2 acres is the Flamingo, a rental building (for now :) )
dave8721 January 23rd, 2006, 02:44 PM Sure beats the Spite Wall.

DGM January 24th, 2006, 03:17 AM Oh I remember that.
Dale January 24th, 2006, 04:42 AM Is the Eden Roc reno moving forward too ?
Roark January 24th, 2006, 08:43 AM What was the spite wall?Au contrere mon freres...that is NOT the spite wall. Pardon my French spelling.
The wall that is depicted in those earlier posts is the Richard Haas murial.
The spite wall is on the Fountainbleau's northern boundry. A wonderful story and precident in land use law nationwide. For those into skyscrapers and architecture, pick up "Too Much is Never Enough" by Morris Lapidus. It's an autobiography written by a decent man that I met in 1996. Lapidus designed the Fountainbleau, and later the Eden Roc. Novac was upset that Lapidus built a hotel next door and banished him from the premises.
Furthermore, Mr. Novak decided to build an addition to his Fountainbleau that would extend down the northern property line without a setback. The addition was as tall as it could be and had ONE window. The Penthouse window. The rest of the addition was a blank wall that exteded from Collins ave to the ocean with nothing but a concrete white wall that blocked all the sun to the Eden Roc hotel...effectively blocking all the winter sun to the pool.
The ONE window on the entire wall was the window to Mr. Novak's PH apartment where he looked down on his competitor's hotel pool. The additional wall and the one window was built in SPITE. Hence the name, and they way the land use law has come to reconize air rights and view cooridors.
Another first for Miami Beach, a very young city.
It is worth having a drink in the Eden Roc lobby and strolling out to the pool...you will see what I mean. It is really amazing. You think today's developers are cut throat! You ain't seen nothin' til you've seen the Spite Wall.
Don Pacho January 25th, 2006, 01:09 AM Is the spite wall the rear wall of the Fontainebleau rectangular building?
or was demolished?
Here a view taken from tower II

Roark January 25th, 2006, 01:56 AM You've got it DP. The back side of that rectangular building has only one window! It is the Penthouse window on the East side. The rest of that ENTIRE wall is white concrete block. Novak used to look down and smile at the shade that the wall created on the summer pool.
