Hi,

My dad promised me a travel to some European city for 18th birthday. I've never been anywhere except some tourists places like Sunny Beach, Kos etc. and that's my first travel to some big city. What do you guys suggests?

I've been thinking cities like Rome, Paris and London and I bet there is more nice cities than those three big ones. I like photographing so naturally there should be something to photography. So, what would be the best one and why? :)

I'm from Finland so Stockholm, Copenhagen, Tallinn and Riga are familiar cities and I've been those cities many times. So those are out of count.

For big cities - LONDON
For the most astonishing place - VENICE
For the wonder of the world that you never forget anymore and think that's the sight to see and die afterwards even if it's not a city per se :) - SANTORINI

I would choose a mediterranean city because life down there is different than in Northern Europe - and it is much warmer. And because your dad will pay it choose a city which is not easy to reach with budget airlines - for example Athens. :D

Is your dad only paying the flight or also give you some money for your stay? Depending on that I would either go for an expensive place (London, Zurich...) or a cheaper (Prague...)

People why are you advertising your small cities? I suggest
-Paris if you are interested in architecture
-Rome if you want to learn about history and visit Vatican
-London if you want to experience unique world atmosphere and multiculturality plus you can practice English

Rome if you want to learn about history and visit Vatican
That's good point. I like and study history and it would be cool to see Vatican.
Is your dad only paying the flight or also give you some money for your stay?
I'll get some money from him and I have some myself so that wouldn't be a problem.
For swim >> Antalya,Alanya
I've been to Alanya five or six years ago. That's very nice city and _very_ many people in restaurants speak Finnish.

Couple of people had recommended Venice. Is there anything else than those small rivers. :)

I think London is still number one on my list. There is so much things I want to see. Museums, Big Ben, that "egg-shaped glass skyscraper", The London Eye and so on... (and those red phone booths ;))

Ljubljana City

In last few years many people that visit Venice stop in Slovenia for few days too. Especially to see Ljubljana and Bled. :) It's best in spring or summer.

I would also recommen you Prague... That was also my first travel with friends abroad, and the city is awesome. I've been there 2 times so far.

Barcelona or Sevilla would be good choices imo, very different from Finland, lots of great architecture, interesting opportunities for photography and culture, good food and not as expensive as London or Paris. :)

Amsterdam is a nice city for a trip (literally and figurative ;))
Especially when you're 18+. Paradise on earth :)

If you are interested in history, architecture and beer, you could prefer Berlin.

The MUST-cities in Europe are in my perspective:
- London
- Paris
- Barcelona
- Venice
- Rome

Highly reccomended are:
- Lisboa
- Helsinki
- Hamburg
- Amsterdam
- Copenhagen
- Firenze
- Berlin
- Moscow
- Zürich
- Wien
- Prague
- Krakow
(the latter three are still missing on my visited list though... Airport Prague doesn't count)

I wouldn't recommend (nice for a day to see, but not as essential as it sometimes may sound like):
- Dublin
- Geneva
- Glasgow
- Frankfurt
- Bruxelles
- Milano

No, its not.
It's a beautiful city with the most impressive church i've ever seen (Duomo), Scala theatre and ofcourse san Siro :)
