jodie mitchell February 14th, 2007, 09:31 AM yet another overrated building from Australia.
I'm giving it "3 or less" to cancel out a couple of inflated ratings. The towers deserve no more than 6.0

I concur.

Gators Rule February 16th, 2007, 06:50 AM Two boring square columns of different heights topped with the same ducky cap. The glass cladding saved them.

Eureka! February 16th, 2007, 11:50 AM yet another overrated building from Australia.

You don't rate like that. You rate what you think and don't lower your score because other people like the building. If everyone rates what they think buildings will get fair scores. If you vote less than you think then there is no point in rating the building.

Sorry to bug in but you Aussies don't seem to have followed the same rule. You guys rate buildings 10/10 or 9/10 if they are in Australia, regardless of their merits. Fraudulent scoring!
Or would you rather chalk it off as bad taste?

Great rebuttal. I think it's obvious to even the most casual observer that these two towers, along with Eureka and Q1, have been outlandishly overrated.
festiboi February 16th, 2007, 06:30 PM I'm not going to deny that people are sometimes biased toward the buildings in their cities. But it's unfair to rate a building a lower score based on others opinions. It should be how you feel about the building itself, not others views on it, and what it does for you personally. If you really dislike the Rialto for what it is and gave it a low score; then no problem, everyone has different tastes. But to say it's been overrated by the locals and to try to level the scoring by giving it low marks is naive.
For the record, I gave the Rialto a perfect 10, but the Eureka didn't score so well with me, never been fond of it, and I've given a lot of overseas buildings 9's and 10's. It's all in fairness and just being honest; no matter where a building is located in the world.

Good action moderator: this guy is registering is so many names and unleashing these mad rants all over the threads. The last couple here show he's right out of his tree - but it is messing up any decent comment and discussion - a pollution of the whole site.

maybe compared to other sheer glass towers today, but this thing was designed in the late 1970s, and set the bar for many other post modern office towers of the late 80s and into the 90s

They are. Two corners meet, but in essence they both operate as two separate towers, twinned into the one complex.

mvictory November 5th, 2009, 07:20 AM It has been copping alot of criticism on this thread. Personaly I think it is an extremely nice and elegant building and realy suits the Melbourne skyline and I believe nearly everyone who has seen it in person would agree. And yes it may not look all that exciting and innovative but it was built in the mid 80's and has aged much better than most from it's era.
