Yeah, incredible job with these photos!
Rijeka is easily one of the 5 most beautiful and orderly Balkan cities...which is why I don't understand the recent news about the drop in its population?:?

People moving to Zagreb or what?

Danke schoen :D

Regarding the Rijeka's population, it's increasing drasticaly, Rijeka within next few years will most likely reach Zagreb or even surpass it in terms of economy.

Very beautiful! I really have to visit these Dalmatian towns/cities!:)

Rijeka got nothing to do with Dalamatia which stretches just north of Zadar down to Dubrovnik.

Nice pics . Rijeka looks like any Italian port city , remindes me of Ancona or Bari. The only difference are the appartment blocks from the socialist time.

The mountain/massif is called Učka, the highest peaks are Vojak 1401 m, and Veli Planik 1272 m :)

there are 50 000 Italians still living in Croatia, they have a MP in Croatian Parliament representing Italian Minority, Tonino Piclua was a foreign Minster of Croatia under Racan SDP Government 2000-2003, and Italians enjoy high degree of cultural freedom, even have there own daily in Croatian which is btw printed in Rijeka... An Editor in Chief on major Croatian Weekly is also Italian from Dalmatia...

So, to your answer, yes there're Italians in Croatia and in Rijeka...

Yes there are still Italians in Rijeka city centre. Only last year a couple of the police stations in Rijeka became bi-lingual. There are police officers on at all time to handle inquiries in Italian. :)

There are a lot of People who speak Italian.Older people(among them are my grandparents) went into Italian schools betwen two World wars so they speak Italian same well like Croatian.I think Rijeka has few elementary schools and gymnasiums. There are lot of people which are not Italian ,but they have class on Italian language. Also in domestic dialect many words have Italian root. So,we can say Italian language has almost same importance like English.

tranzit je tranzit - koristenje prolaza kroz inozemni teritorij u prometnom i putnickom smislu, znaci privremeno odrediste, a ne krajnje.

Zaobilaznica je samo zaobilaznica, premda postoji i obilaznica :D

Dubrovnik is maybe most beautiful city in all World, but his position is far away. For example In Opatija you can find a lot forging tourist in any time of year especially at weekend (1 hour from Italia, half hour from Slovenia, 2 Hours from Austria). Most of them Come to have dinner or lunch, some walk .It is so close that they can come just to drink coffee and go back :)

Great to see a thread devoted to Rijeka.

It is a very underrated city by many people and I think it possesses a unique port & industrial 'charm' if that makes any sense. It really is a melange of Central European (Hungarian) architecture interspersed with Italian, medieval Croatian (Trsat) and commie era buildings. It is an odd city but I like it and I am hoping to pop over there for a few days in June or July. If I have time I will take some pictures.

Big ups to Bubach, been reading this forum for a while but only registered today, I like your pics & threads, keep it up
