G4YyA_rKcEQ Mavey September 4th, 2008, 04:21 PM The Shah buried his own grave with the Mullahs. Ayatollah Khomeini repeatedly stated that the only portion of Iran's past worth studying was the portion after Iran's transformation into an Islamic country following its conquest by Arab and Muslim armies. As early as 1924, Khomeini wrote in an essay that "Before Islam, the lands now blessed by our True Faith suffered miserably because of ignorance and cruelty. There is nothing in that past that is worth glorification." Pursuant to that philosophy, the new Islamic Republic sought to crush any and all remnants of secular Iranian nationalism. They did so, of course, by bringing an end to the "2,500 year old" monarchy, but they also sought to make Iran less a land of Cyrus and Darius, and more a land of Mohammad. The new Islamic Republic was forced to adopt some of the vestiges of secular Iran's past thanks to the onset of war against Iran by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Seeking to preempt Khomeini's religious aura, Saddam announced that the war against Iran was like the war waged against the "heathen" Persians by the Arab and Muslim armies that conquered Persia and brought it under Islamic rule for the first time.Khomeini then rallied the Iranian youth under Nationalist ferver bringing the past and into play although considered haram in Islamic law.Since our forefathers not Muslim but Zoroastrian.Considered Pagan's by Muslim clerics. If you look at all the history school books in western world today, there is nothing good written about Iran. Only the wars we lost to Greece. No mention of the first human rights charter, insurance, banks, posts, no slavery, payment to workers, founder of battery, alcohol, great medicines, great doctors etc. Mavey September 17th, 2008, 07:44 PM No other country in the history of man kind ever put on a military parade of more then 2,500 years of Imperial power. þopsï September 17th, 2008, 08:46 PM Total Respect. Of Iran? 0_o I am not trying to decrease the value of Iran, but I don't think such nations would be jealous. Actually, as someone who was taught evil western history, our subject talked about the developments of Iran as a part of human rights. It also discussed the influence of Persia upon the west. We are not as ignorant as you think. :) Think before you speak. Koobideh October 27th, 2009, 01:43 AM Iran back then wasn't that great. It was just all superficial greatness. Sure these pictures might be nice, but this party was too extravagant for a country that was so steeped in poverty at the time. Not nice! |
