you mean The Boulevard 9-Q
pakboy December 2nd, 2007, 12:33 AM The boulevard to fashion
By Saif-ur-Rehman and Hina Farooq
LAHORE: The Boulevard – a mall housing prominent Pakistani fashion designers – opened on Saturday. This is the first of its kind in the country and has been welcomed by all and sundry.
The mall is situated at 10-Q in Gulberg (near the Mini Market).
The opening was a grand affair with cameras flashing and TV crews with their equipment running around fashion stars. Several prominent businessmen of the textile industry and fashion buyers were present at the event.
A joint press conference held by textile industrialist Owais Mazhar, Libas editorial director Sehyr Saigol, fashion designers Hassan Shehryar Yasin and Maria B, Karma design house chairman Saad Ali and The Boulevard marketing manager Turab.
The event then began with camera crews interviewing various designers and filming and taking pictures of their stalls.
There were hundreds of people inside the mall with many more sitting on the designer couches and sofas arranged outside the building. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres were served inside and outside the mall.
The designers had invited family members and friends, who stood next to stalls promoting their (the designers’) work. The ambiance was magical, as everyone was excited having so many talented designers under one roof.
Amber, a brand conscious shopper, could not hide her excitement. She told Daily Times that her life had been made easier because now she did not have to go driving around Lahore to find good clothes. “This place has everything,” she added.
The Boulevard houses the prêt lines of all major designers and the couture lines of several others. Jewellery, shoes and books were also on display.
Several fashions critics were also present. Their comments on the mall were positive and full of vigour. They were also happy to see the enthusiasm on the face of the designers. According to them, the lines of Kamiar Rokni, Zara Shahjahan, Nomi Ansari, Hassan Shehryar Yasin, Unbeatables and Panic (shoes by Naila Maqbool) attracted most of the crowd. Newcomer Khadija Shah also made her mark with a very modern and ethnic line.
Overall, the affair was classy and well coordinated. This seems to be a small step for Lahore; a giant leap for Pakistani fashion.
Kamiyar Rokni: “Designs in my clothes depict my personality,” said Kamiyar Rokni at the opening of the Boulevard.
He said he had designed a kurti embellished with crystal and various glittery materials to add a little fun in wearing. He said he had designed the boutique’s windows at par with international standards. He said the council was looking to share space with other top designers across the country.
Nomi Ansari: Nomi Ansari’s collection used sharp colours in various matches. He told Daily Times that vibrant colours had been used in the new collection because of the winter and wedding season.
pakboy December 3rd, 2007, 12:53 AM Construction of high-rise buildings restarts after PCO
* Justice Kiyani says commission continuing to report, and can only report, on such activity
By Mansab Dogar
LAHORE: The construction of high-rise buildings has begun in the city again, as the Supreme Court (SC) bench dealing with the case ceased to exist after the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) was promulgated on November 3.
Justice (r) Riaz Ahmad Kiyani, chairman of the commission compiling reports on all multi-storey buildings, told Daily Times on Sunday that he had surveyed 300 under-construction high-rise buildings and had submitted his site reports to the SC.
He said such constructions were being carried out along Ferozepur Road and Main Boulevard, Gulberg.
He said the commission had no power to stop such constructions. It could only report about them to the SC, he said, adding that the owners of such buildings would have to face the consequences.
He said the commission had not stopped functioning after November 3. It had been sending its reports to the SC even though the bench concerned ceased to exit, he added.
The chairman said, “It is up to the court to decide about the fate of such high-rise structures.”
He said the commission would also start surveying the already constructed buildings after the completion of the survey of under-construction buildings.
On May 11, a two-member SC bench consisting of Justices Khalilur Rehman Ramday and Falak Sher had stopped the construction of all multi-storey buildings (more than three storeys) in the city while hearing a petition against the construction of Boulevard Heights on Main Boulevard, Gulberg.
The SC had said that it was horrifying to know that not even a single engineer worked at the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to check, supervise and ensure the structural stability of these buildings.
The SC bench had also formed a commission consisting of Justice (r) Kiyani, architect Kamal Khan Mumtaz and the University of Engineering and Technology vice chancellor’s nominee Tahir Ahmad to survey all high-rise buildings. The SC had fined several multi-storey building owners on the commission’s report.

pakboy December 3rd, 2007, 05:00 PM The Boulevard Launch by Pakistan Fashion Design Council
By Amal Uppal
For all of you out there who love to be seen rubbing shoulders with the glitterati and literati of Lahore, you missed your chance if you didn’t come to the launch of The Boulevard - the flagship store of the Pakistan Fashion Design Council.
Turab and Salma, the husband-wife dream team from Purple Arts and Communications, managed the event. The setup was brilliant; everything from the purple and white candles to the valet’s was sparked off to a tee!
The event itself held an aura of sophistication (how could it not?) Holding the floor were none other than Saad Ali, HSY, Seher Saigol, Turab Randhawa, Maria B and a volley of designers such as Nicki Nina, Nomi Ansari, Omer Saeed and Kamiar Rokni.
The chairperson of the flagship store, Saad Ali said that, "The Boulevard would be providing a retail experience at par with any international multi branded fashion store. The store staff and other facilities provided for the smooth operations of the store would be as per international standards and all the support staff will be trained accordingly." He further added that since this is a multibillion-dollar industry, Pakistan needed a bigger piece of the pie.
After the press briefing, I asked fashion designer Hassan Sheharyar Yasin that how could he possibly claim (he did in his speech) that we have a united fashion front when our country itself is split into two councils a.k.a the Karachi Fashion council and the Lahore Fashion Council. His reply was brilliant and I have to admit that he shut me up good and proper when he said that "At the end of the day, commerce is the driving force behind fashion and creations need to be sold. Designers like Nomi Ansari and Omar Saeed are heavyweights in Karachi and they have made the right decision based on commerce. There will be more who will realize and gradually join us. We plan on opening a store in Islamabad, a store in Karachi and a store in Dubai. The intent of the fashion council is not to chide those who decide to go ahead individually but in fact to harmonize those who do have a united vision." On plagiarism (we’ve all heard the rumors about our top designers buying and selling garments from abroad under their own names) he said, "Everyone outsources production and products but this council is keen on promoting fashion by Pakistan, for Pakistan". Thus I declare HSY as the desi Abraham Lincoln. He is a visionary with great speaking skills!
When I asked Maria B what she thought about the split within the fashion fraternty, she said that it’s only a matter of time before the other designers realize and gather under one roof.
Turab Randhawa informed us that a Textile and Fashion Museum would be set up to enable the public to understand the diverse aspects of the industry and to see how creativity has evolved over the decades that make up the history of Pakistani Fashion.
The press was then shown different sections of the store and participating designers told the guests about their upcoming collections. I was informed that Purple Arts and Communications had become the official PR agency for the Pakistan Fashion Design Council. Way to go guys – you deserve it!
If I were a part of the Karachi chapter of the Pakistan fashion council, I would set aside all differences and unite in the name of Brand Pakistan. The whole world is your playing field. The only way to move forward is by unity. Hats off to those who conceptualized and executed an idea like "The Boulevard". We wish them all the success and hope to attend similar launches in Islamabad and Karachi soon. Editor.

RANA AAA December 13th, 2007, 10:05 AM LAHORE: Solid Waste management team of the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) has issued four challans in connection with its campaign against contractors, dumping construction material on roads. According to CDGL sources, usually owners/contractors do not remove construction material after completion of work and dump it in Bazaars and streets.
Intoxication December 13th, 2007, 04:37 PM These days are borring nothing happening around. In winter the pace of projects under construction is very slow but in summer the work on under construction projects goes faster.
Whats the reason? Isn't it harder for labourers to work in the blazing hot summers, with temperatures frequently crossing the 40C mark?

I dont know the exact reason but i think in summer the days are long and nights are short and in pak mostly labourers work in the time of day.

Days are still quite long in Pak in the winters though. Its not like fliping London, where it goes dark at 4 in the winter and stays bright till 11 in the summers. I hate that. Surely there can't be a stark difference in Pak though? Maybe be a difference of 1 or 2 hours of sunlight?

About 2.5 - 3 hours in the night, around 2-3 hours in the morning. That's for Karachi.

No. I meant the difference between the the time that the sun sets in London in the winter (4 pm) and the summer (11 pm). All this darkness gets me depressed in the winter.

pakboy December 27th, 2007, 02:48 AM Mono Rail project to be completed in 3 years: nazim
Staff Report
LAHORE: The Mono Rail project will be completed in the next three years, said the city district nazim Mian Amer Mehmmood on Wednesday.
The nazim was talking to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) president Mohammad Ali Mian at the latter’s residence.
He congratulated Ali on his election as LCCI president.
LCCI senior vice president Yaqoob Tahir Izhar, Punjab Economic Forum president Mian Anjum Nisar, former LCCI vice president Sheikh Mohammad Arshad, LCCI Executive Committee member Sheikh Shafiq Riaz and Pakistan Hardware Merchants’ Association central chairman Usman Ghani were also present at the meeting.
Projects like city roads, the plan for signal-free movement of traffic from the Wagah boarder to the Motorway, and the shifting of the hide market were also discussed in the meeting. On the traffic mess issue raised by the LCCI president, the nazim said the city government had planned to widen the Canal Road, but several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were objecting to the project. He said the NGOs had claimed that the project would reduce the number of trees along the canal. “The NGOs are raising undue hue,” he added.
Mehmood told the LCCI president that the government would shift the trees a few yards away from the existing place. He said the LCCI support would help the city government complete the project.
The LCCI president urged the nazim to ensure the LCCI’s participation in all projects of national importance.
About shifting the hide market, the nazim said the city government would shift the market if the traders chose an alternate place while foreseeing requirement of the next hundred years.
The LCCI president said the chamber had been supporting the government to make the country economically strong.

Is uptown a good bowling alley then? when i went to silverstar back in 2005, it seemed like doomed. hardly any visitors. how is uptown LA faring?
Jsultan January 1st, 2008, 09:14 AM Well... its doing quite ok these days... and Uptown LA is in the ownership of Sliverstar, so wrongfully typed silverstar... its a much better place than silverstar.... with a good eat out place aswell...
this particular area of DHA will rock in near future... there are a lot of cool cafe's, ice cream parlours, fashion outles being opened here plus a cinema....
pakboy January 1st, 2008, 06:32 PM not sure how it is faring cos i went there 2 times at about 3am when we were bowling alone, but its open till late hours which shows it should be doing good.
silverstar in fortress is a shit hole, they charge much higher then LA and are much craper
pakboy January 1st, 2008, 06:33 PM i also looks like the render of the mall is different and much better on the board on site then the render posted before

RANA AAA January 18th, 2008, 08:27 AM LAHORE: As many as 63 projects of road constructions costing Rs 3.12 trillion are in the final phase of completion. The completion of these projects will speed up supply of trade goods from various ports including Karachi, Ormara, Bin Qasim and Gawadar ports to upper regions of the country and link the four provinces through National Trade Corridor.
Punjab Governor Kahlid Maqbool was told this in meeting held here Tuesday at the Governor's House. The meeting was informed was informed that National Highway Authority started reconstruction work of 11485 km long roads out of which, 2669 km long roads were in Punjab under Vision-2030 for improving road infrastructure in the country.
The meeting was further informed in the next five years three time's long motorways and expressways would be constructed as compared to roads constructed during the last 15 years in the country.
Governor Khalid Maqbool expressed his satisfaction over the pace of construction work on the road projects. He said that the roads built under the supervision of National Highway Authority were of international standards and he added that due to construction of these roads, the transit trade expenses would decrease resulting in reduction of required cost of any business in Pakistan. The governor hoped that the road network would be linked with the existing Asian Highway Network of the neighbouring countries which would enhance geo-strategic significance of Pakistan.
It was decided in the meeting that the National Highway Authority would also make investment for promoting civil engineering research work in various universities of Punjab.
Under this programme, road testing laboratories would be set up in various universities. The meeting also reviewed the proposal for giving powers to the motorway police for removing encroachments on national highways on the pattern of Punjab Highway Patrolling Police.

pakboy January 22nd, 2008, 01:56 AM well in punjab its either the choudary bradraan or the ganja brothers who you can have in power, as no one else has the power to beat them. so i will take choudarys anyday,
they have by far given punjab more then any previous gov. we have seen like some big projects like ring road, industrial estates, lots of roads, big investments coming in like sports city, shiek zayed center etc., libety market finaly renovated and some hope for a mass transit system.
lahore just needs a good nazim, perveiz elahis son moonis elahi wouldnt be a bad option.

yes? :dunno:
pakboy January 22nd, 2008, 05:30 PM As much as I hate Ganja, didn't he do a lot for Lahore?
not at all, its just hype created by his party men and his society, model town which he did work on to improve his own area, but i cant think of a single project he did in lahore which didnt have personal benefits for him and he was here for so long, choudarys have only been here for 5 years and wernt even serving in the pm slot but they still developed lahore, perveiz elahi as a CM for 5 years has done 100 times more then what ganja did as PM for 8 years, if elahi was serving as PM lahore wouldnt have developed alot more,
not did the choudaries just develop lahore but they are the first punjab gov. that developed other cities of punjab, and southern punjab which was always neglected finaly got attention.
Sufi Pistol January 22nd, 2008, 05:50 PM Yar all the discussion above apart, I was wondering about a point.. Earlier, when this TOWN SYSTEM wasnt present, we had seen PRIME MINISTERS involved in Micromanagement. Like we recall past projects(regardless of being MEGA or NOT) by their names or tenure... In Karachi, we say NIPA and DRIG ROAD FLYOVERS were made in GANJA's tenure and this was a unique thing that we HAD a flyover at all... Now this is what the BALDIYAATI NIZAAM all about. Keep the GIANTS away from Micromanagement and let the AWWAM involved in managing their resources on Town level.
vazim January 22nd, 2008, 06:09 PM the work which ganja done in such a short tenure the chaudries didnt do any thing near it. i am not supporter of ganja but wht they did lot for lahore we should not forget that chaudries stayed for 5 years ganja stayed for few years and the project which they made were of international standards... and i cant name any good road whcih they made apart from few underpasses which are made just to make fast traffic towards his house
Ganja did good things but not that much. Few underpasses and widening of jail road. what else ?
Chowdaries done examplary work, like STP, Sundar industrial estate, improving kot lakhpat industrial estate, Ring Road & lots of work on Metro. Still chowdaries should have done more. they talked toooo much and did less...
siamu maharaj January 22nd, 2008, 06:24 PM not at all, its just hype created by his party men and his society, model town which he did work on to improve his own area, but i cant think of a single project he did in lahore which didnt have personal benefits for him and he was here for so long, choudarys have only been here for 5 years and wernt even serving in the pm slot but they still developed lahore, perveiz elahi as a CM for 5 years has done 100 times more then what ganja did as PM for 8 years, if elahi was serving as PM lahore wouldnt have developed alot more,
not did the choudaries just develop lahore but they are the first punjab gov. that developed other cities of punjab, and southern punjab which was always neglected finaly got attention.
I really don't know much about Lahore, so just talking about my personal experience. When I went to Lahore before Ganja, the concept of roads was unknown to Lahore. I used to make fun of my phoopho that Karachi roads are much better. When I went there during Ganja's time, there were new roads everywhere. It made Karachi look like a village.
cntower January 22nd, 2008, 07:29 PM ^ No point of having good roads, when people can't drive on them. It's amazing how people think they can drive 100 km/h on a service road!

well that is the problem we can only have ganja bros. or choudaries in power, and i will take choudaries as they did more work and some of them on international standards like STP, ring road, sunder estate and other estates in multan, gujranwala and faislabad and upcoming lahore-sialkot motorway, which also includes $2 billion industrial estate in FDI, as well getting more fdi into lahore like shiek zayed center, sports city and lake view city,
they have done too much talking but it shows that they are thinking out of the box and thinking about developing punjab which the ganjas never did and only cared about their bank accounts.
FK January 22nd, 2008, 11:04 PM Lets leave Ganja out of it, are all of you smoking ganja?

transistorized January 22nd, 2008, 11:53 PM Elahi has achieved many other things too:
* Rescue 1122
* Expo Center(s)
* That new traffic police department
* Baab e Pakistan (well this one is actually Mushi's pet project, but whatever)
* new PC Hotel coming up on Mall road (Punjab govt has I think 25% share in it)
* and most importantly of all, for the first time Punjab government is investing in infrastructure outside of Lahore as well.
Oh and dont forget that many of the other private sector projects are underway now only because of the open and free investment environment provided by the ruling government (but then again not sure how much of that is chaudaries and how much its Mushi and Aziz)

But choudarys had done nothing but putting their names on the project whose had been started by some one else. They can't take credit of the projects whose had been stared by some one else.
Now the present gov is going to built new multan road.In 1998 august the Sharif brothers I must say Shahbaz sharif was going to start multan road and he had issues notices to the people who had illegally built their property on the land of the Gov.
Now after 10 years present Gov. had decided to built it still i am not sure about that its relly gonna happen coz its the time of choudaries.

pakboy February 12th, 2008, 07:44 PM Pakistan Army gifts two parks to Lahorites
Tuesday, 12 February 2008
A special ceremony was held at Minar-e-Pakistan, Lahore where General Officer Commanding Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan Khan who is also Garrison Commander Lahore, gifted two newly developed parks to the people of Lahore City, on behalf of the Pakistan Army.
City Mayor Mian Amir Mehmood was handed over the possession, according to an ISPR press release here Tuesday.
The project was undertaken as sequel to various beautification and uplift works of Lahore Garrison by Corps Commander Lt Gen Shafaat Ullah Shah during the last two years. It was initiated as a gesture of good will by the Pakistan Army for the people.
This is the second project of its kind undertaken by the Lahore Corps, the first being supervision of the work on Bab-e-Pakistan at Walton, which is presently well underway.
The motive is to resurrect the memorable journey of those valiant sons who braved all odds after abandoning their homes during partition, to reach their newly created country.
The conversion of two barren sites into the lush green soothing lawns around Minar-e-Pakistan within a short span of five months, symbolises the intrinsic resolve of the people and the Armed Forces of Pakistan for combined effort towards building and beautifying their motherland.
The main park has primarily been developed into two parts at an estimated cost of Rs 12.6 million, one for provision of a serene environment and respite to people from all walks of life, and the other an amusement park for children.
According to the release, beautiful landscaping with ornamental plants, fountains and clean sitting places have made the park a fine addition to the beauty of Lahore.
A beautifully lighted walkway lined with inscriptions of quotable quotes and embossed photographs of the leaders of Pakistan Movement has enhanced the splendor of Minar-e-Pakistan, a symbol of the determination, pride, solidarity and sovereignty of the brave people of Pakistan.
It may be mentioned that a similar uplift project was undertaken by the Corps of Army Engineers for the beautification of the area around the Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum in Karachi.

Jsultan February 22nd, 2008, 09:29 AM Accor set to build 12 Ibis hotels in key Pakistan cities
By Shakir Husain, Staff Reporter
Published: May 03, 2007, 00:00
Dubai: French hotelier Accor will build a dozen hotels in Pakistan in a deal with Pakistan's JS Group, a financial services firm, to fill a room supply gap in the mid-range market.
Accor holds a 25 per cent equity stake in the joint venture that will create 2,400 hotel rooms, Accor Middle East managing director Christophe Landais told Gulf News.
"We will develop 12 Ibis hotels over a period of five years in key cities," he said.
The total development cost is estimated to be $156 million. Three sites have been identified in Islamabad, Faisalabad and Lahore.
Ibis is a mid-price brand of the group, which also operates the five-star Sofitel hotels.
"We are also in talks to have Sofitel and Novotel hotels in Islamabad and Lahore," Landais said.
Accor opened the 118-room Mercure hotel at Karachi airport in April while one Sofitel is under construction in the city's Clifton area.
It is aggressively pushing its mid-range and economy hotels in the Middle East and South Asia.
Strong economic growth is increasing business and leisure travel in the two regions, creating demand for more hotel rooms.
In a deal with the Indian subsidiary of UAE-based property giant Emaar, Accor will manage 100 Formule 1 budget hotels in India in 10 years.
"The budget hotels conform to the market needs. Most of other groups are also focusing on it but we feel we have a headstart with Ibis," Landais said.
Most of Accor's new developments in the region are in the non-luxury category.
Accor operates 20 hotels in the Middle East, offering 4,984 rooms, but its portfolio will triple by 2010.
Thirty properties are under construction that will provide an additional 8,247 rooms by 2010.
In the UAE alone the group manages six hotels providing 1,384 rooms and 16 are under construction with a capacity of 5,218 rooms.
The group will have 21 Novotel and 22 Ibis properties across the Middle East by 2010.

RANA AAA March 2nd, 2008, 08:23 AM The service conducted a total of 108,679 rescue operations
LAHORE: The future fate of the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue-1122) depends on the new government and hopefully it will keep the service continue as we are not only serving the humanity on merit but also a large number of people are being benefited from it.
This was stated by Rescue Service Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer while addressing a crowded press conference here on Saturday on the rescuing of over 100,000 victims of emergencies by the service since its inception in October 2004.
He said that Rescue-1122 service had achieved a remarkable landmark by carrying out 108,679 rescue operations. He said that majority number of the rescue operations were carried out in the provincial city because Rescue-1122 operation started in other cities quite recent. "The Service has also maintained its average record response time of less than seven minutes.
Rescue-1122 had been acknowledged even internationally as a model of Emergency Preparedness, Response and Prevention, he maintained. Giving the break up, Dr Rizwan observed that the emergency service had conducted as many as 108,679 rescue operations which include 87,859 rescue operations in Lahore, 8,238 in Faisalabad, 1780 in Rawalpindi, 3072 in Multan, 2501 rescue operations in Bahawalpur, 1856 in Dera Ghazi Khan, 2114 in Rahim Yar Khan and 1259 in Sahiwal.
However, he appealed to the people that they should utilize emergency services with moral responsibility, adding that people should dial emergency number only in case of any emergency and never misuse it. "Only timely call can help emergency service in timely management," he emphasized.
He said that the emergency calls to which Rescue-1122 responded included 47percent road traffic accidents, 48 percent medical emergencies, 4 percent fire incidents, 0.3 percent buildings collapse incidents and 0.1 percent explosions.
He recalled that the emergency service started as an ambulance service had turned into a comprehensive system for emergency & disaster management and Rescue-1122 was now providing its services in Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Sahiwal after historic success in Lahore. He said that citizens were now being provided with comprehensive emergency response with ambulance, rescue & fire services & DERT (Disaster Emergency Response Teams) by dialing only one emergency number 1122. Thus this service had proved itself first tested, evaluated and cost effective model of emergency & disaster management in all developing countries, he added. The emergency service had been recognized as an excellent pre-hospital emergency system by delegation of foreign doctors who witnessed performance of the Emergency Service, The delegates include Dr. Jane from the United Kingdom, Dr. Ramish P Sing from Nepal and Dr. Sherani from Sri Lanka.
The timely and professional management by Rescue 1122 staff in road traffic accidents, buildings collapse incidents, hazardous material incidents, fire incidents medical emergencies and explosions had saved several victims of spinal injuries from becoming disabled and revived several victims by professionally using the emergency equipment available in Emergency ambulances.
Victims of cardiac respiratory arrest were revived through Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation by trained paramedic staff. Proper management of such incidents could have been possible because of timely help, quality emergency care professional handling and safe transportation during hospitalization.
This is one of the very few good projects by the last gov.

resu eman March 11th, 2008, 12:08 AM New city to be developed on Lahore’s outskirts
LAHORE: Lahore will shortly have a sprawling new town to be developed by an Abu Dhabi based construction firm across the river Ravi in the northwest of the city.
To this end, Abu Dhabi Group and the Government of Punjab on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop the housing project over an area of 30,000 acres. Akhlaq Ahmed Tarar, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general, and Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak al Nahayan, Abu Dhabi group chairman, signed the MoU at Chief Minister’s Secretariat. Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Chief Secretary Kamran Rasool, Finance Secretary Salman Siddique and a number of other dignitaries from both sides were at the ceremony.
Briefing reporters later, Kamran Rasool said that the land from Ravi Syphon to Faizpur Interchange and Ravi Bridge had been identified for the project after properly surveying the entire area.
He said the chief minister had set a timeframe of three months to put a regulatory system in place for the project. He said the project was part of the government’s vision to improve facilities for people, and was not a commercial scheme being launched just to earn profit.
“The project is aimed at fulfilling people’s residential needs at affordable rates for which land will not be acquired through coercion. The owners of the land will be given attractive packages,” he said.
Rasool said that ready-to-develop plots would be provided under the project. The chief secretary said that a freshwater lake would also be part of the project, the model of which was being prepared at the Nandipur research centre. He said that plans to set up an education and sports city were being prepared, and the government would provide the latest educational facilities by encouraging standard domestic and foreign educational institutions for this purpose. app
tHIS IS ONE THE MOST STUPID projekts i have ever seen. Whar should have done is:
Make Lahore smaller by building more apartments. Not Lahore bigger so more and more extremly valuable agriculture land is lost. Pakistan will need more land for growing food, because of it`s growing population.
thePakMan March 11th, 2008, 02:27 AM Lahore should be more like LA than NY. Big cities have traffic problem hence it's a good idea to make cities in outskirts.

RANA AAA March 11th, 2008, 08:01 PM LAHORE: There are widespread speculations that the government will grant one-day permission for the Basant festival on March 16. However, spring festival to be celebrated in the posh areas of the City including Defence, Gulberg and Model Town and millions of rupees are being spent on arrangement by the housing societies for the parties. The housing societies have sponsored huge sums to arrange the rooftop night parties on different buildings while security arrangements have also been completed. Previously, the Pakistan Horticulture Authority and the city government were barred from celebrating Basant festival which caused millions of rupees loss to PHA. Meanwhile, due to the critical situation prevailing in the country the chances of a ban on the Basant festival can not be ruled out.
