Very impressive. They did a good job with the 888 fireworks.

Hong Kong has several major fireworks shows every year. After the Lunar New Year, the next big show is for the handover (July), followed by China's National Day (October).

丙戌年「靈犬吉祥煙花耀香港　工商專業齊旺喜迎春」賀歲煙花匯演將於本月三十日（大年初二）晚上八時舉行。今年煙花匯演首創會發笑聲的「笑臉」財神煙花造型，主辦單位估計會吸引五十萬巿民前往維港兩岸欣賞瑰麗璀璨的煙花匯演。

大年初二的煙花匯演由香港工商專業協進會斥資逾三百萬元贊助，民政事務局統籌，煙花匯演歷時二十三分十八秒，二萬三千八百八十八枚煙花將由三艘躉船共同發放，煙花發放範圍有三百米高、七百米闊，煙花來源地為中國和台灣。

紅色利是徐徐飄下
煙花匯演共分十幕，每幕煙花圖案均經過千挑萬選，發放時配以耳熟能詳的中西流行經典名曲作背景陪襯，樂曲節奏與煙花快慢起伏互相配合，令巿民盡享視聽之娛。今年煙花更別具特色，第一幕的「財神到」，巿民除可在維港夜空見到財神「笑臉」外，更能親耳聽到「財神」送上愉快笑聲，而紅色煙花徐徐飄下，像是「財神」大派利是，連同「8」字造型煙花，祝願港人又「笑」又「發」喜迎春。

300「禮炮」掀高潮
至於第四幕的「動感之都」，不同顏色煙花會左右舞動，高低煙火造成不同層次感，象徵香港動感之都。第六幕「希望」有首次在煙花匯演出現的「湖水藍鑽石」色彩，獨特的藍色像清澈眼睛，照耀香江。匯演高潮為第十幕「成功在望」，萬紫千紅的煙花以排山倒海之勢發放，觸動觀眾視覺神經，而最後三秒更有三百枚「禮炮」同時發放，營造震耳欲聾效果，將煙花匯演推向高潮。

If i remember correctly, the 2003 CNY firework was 500 shots in 30 seconds, and that was super extremely intense. I can't even imagine 300 shots in 3 seconds.

they should have warning for foreigner (with heart disease etc) that never have fireworks even close to this kind of intensity.

nice, but you can't listen to the music that comes with the firework though. Not sure if the "bomb" sound would be as loud as watching from street level.

The Lunar New Year fireworks display, sponsored by Hong Kong Commerce, Industry & Professionals Association and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau, will light up the sky over Victoria Harbour at 8pm next Monday (January 30).

A total of 23,888 pieces of firing shells will be discharged in the display from three barges in a 23-minute extravaganza comprising 10 scenes.

The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Hung Hom Bypass. However, part of Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza will be closed due to construction work.

To increase their enjoyment, viewers are invited to tune to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 - 98.9) for synchronised music.

People are urged to help keep public areas clean and to show respect for public property. They should also show consideration in order to make the event a safe one.

I'm uploading to hkskyline's site. The TVB version, captured by 酷兒, is a VCD version and is around 266 MB. The ATV version that I captured, is about 714 MB DVD version.

I will also upload shorter version which is reported in the late news of both stations.

mine stopped at 99.3% as well. But i believe the quality of this version would be similar to the one that i got from another bt link. I would like to see HKT's atv version though.

The smoke ruined the whole video. =(

I watched the TVB one. The smoke...terrible. After the first 5 minutes, smoke blocked 60% of the fireworks for the entire show.

But some of the shots were good enough :)

Fireworks producers promise historic New Year treat HK$4m display will bring 'luck' to spectators

Spectators at the annual Lunar New Year fireworks display this year have been promised a "historic treat" during the HK$4 million show above Victoria Harbour, with fireworks making the Chinese character for "luck".

The producers unveiled details of the show yesterday and said it would be the first time in the history of fireworks display that a pattern depicting such a difficult Chinese character was possible.

The Chinese character "ji" - which means luck - when written contains six strokes.

Pyromagic Production chief executive officer Wilson Mao said: "We have made a lot of effort to make this possible. 'Ji' fits the Lunar New Year sentiment and it is also a good theme to mark the 10th anniversary of the handover.

"We would like to venture into areas that displays elsewhere have not ventured before. We want to give a good show to Hong Kong people. It is the first time fireworks will be used to create a Chinese character."

The "ji" scene will be the first of 12 and spectators have been reminded not to miss the first 82 seconds of the display.

The 23-minute pyrotechnic display to mark the Year of the Pig will not be limited to Chinese characters.

A "pig" scene will feature fireworks making smileys and faces of the pig, followed by a "god of fortune" scene with the shape of gold ingots.

This year's display will see 23,888 fireworks exploding up to 300 metres above the harbour and is expected to attract as many as 400,000 people.

The event on February 19 is sponsored by the newly formed Association of the Hong Kong Members of Guangdong's Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Committees.

Chairman Stephen Tai Tak-fung said the association aimed to build a harmonious Hong Kong society.

"The year 2007 is especially meaningful because it marks the 10th anniversary of the reunification of Hong Kong," said Mr Tai, who is also chairman of snack food trader Four Seas Mercantile Holdings.

The Lunar New Year falls on February 18 this year. It will be the Year of the Pig, according to Chinese astrology.

I was at Renaissance Harbour View watching the fireworks on 15 Feb 2010. Booked a Club level suite facing the harbour to ensure I have a full view of it in comfort.

Had to say I was disappointed with the fireworks. Too much smoke and there were little variance. Was expecting some nice fireworks on water which I saw on the forum some years back.

The weather is terribly cold from 15 - 18 Feb... Below 11 deg Celsius at most times... is it that cold this time every year?

I don't think it was breezy enough that night to let the smoke dissipate. These past few days have been the coldest this winter. I does dip below 10C but with the rain it just felt very, very cold.
