Centennial Place is valued at $400 million? Seems rather high for a 40 story tower and smaller twin.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this posted here in this forum! (unless I missed it big time, which isn't very often!) And this would be pretty appropriate for this thread.
And see if you can spot a typo in in this article. :D
High rise condos alter downtown
Project will dominate northern city's skyline

EDMONTON - An Edmonton developer has received approval to build 31 and 26-storey condominium towers in Fort McMurray -- lit by simulated northern lights.
The municipal council of Wood Buffalo, which includes Fort McMurray, voted last week to re-zone 0.3 hectares of land on the corner of Morrison Street and MacDonald Avenue, so Bond Street Properties can build the luxury towers.
"This will be the world's second-highest building at that latitude," says Maurice Yusep, Bond Street senior vice president.
Oslo, Sweden has a single, 52-storey building.
The height will transform Fort McMurray's skyline, Yusep says, and the high-quality structure "could be built in any city in the world."
Edmonton architect Kim Ziola's design includes two levels of underground parking and three levels of above-ground parking.
Parking stalls are extra-wide to accommodate locally-popular dual-rear-wheel trucks.
At ground-level, street-front retail spaces will face Macdonald and Morrison.
The facade of the parking-and-retail podium will be divided into small-scale elements to recall an earlier era.
"We wanted to keep the community feeling at the ground level," Yusep says.
"Our objective is to represent old-town Alberta, and go above that with new, modern architecture."
The steel-framed towers will be draped with glass curtain walls and brick cladding.
Their decorative caps will be illuminated, day and night, by "a subtle, computer-generated aurora borealis," Yusep says.
The development "will anchor and re-vitalize the downtown core, alleviate the housing crisis and create a substantial tax base," he says.
Mayor Melissa Blake has said her community will need 5,800 new housing units within five years.
One-bedroom units will be almost 1,200 square feet. The two-bedrooms will be almost 1,400 square feet. All 274 units will have fireplaces.
Bond Street's re-zoning application -- to raise the allowable height to 114 metres from 55 metres -- was supported by a petition with 500 signatures.
Only one councillor opposed it as "piecemeal development."
And one local landowner said it should not proceed before completion of new schools, roads and water supply.
Yusep estimates the project cost at $100 million to $125 million.
The development could include both condos and rental apartments. Condo prices aren't set yet but may range from $390,000 to about $750,000 for three-storey penthouses.
"The target market is any professional or technical worker, local citizens and even retirees," Yusep says.
He hopes to start construction by July, and to finish the 31-storey tower in 22 months. Scheduling of the second tower will depend on sales.
Yusep hopes eventually to add third and fourth towers on neighbouring property alongside Franklin Avenue -- bringing the total cost of the Bond Centre to $250 million.
Bond Street Properties Inc., owned by the Kiani family, also is building 92 townhouses in Yellowknife.

We've been musing about this for about a week now on SSP.
And just for your enjoyment, a comparison to Five West here in Calgary (second tower U/C)

And uhhh, yeah. I think these will be the only highrises in Ft. Mac if they are built. At least until some more proposals come around.

Okay, I knew I had seen those before . Last time I was in Calagry I saw a bill board up with that project and of course just assumed ... you know .
well that is ausome for Fort Mac. I could see as long as oil is needed there would be a new Player in building on a grand scale in Alberta .
what I like is that it said they may build 2 more as well .
P.S.
