On the Montreal page of Wikipedia, there is a downtown pano that shows a mysterious building that I've never seen or heard anything about. I suspect that it isn't real, and there's no mention of it on emporis, but I just want to make sure that it isn't a recent adition to the skyline. It looks so good I wish that it was real lol.

The building I'm refering to is just to the right of Le 1250 Boulevard René-Lévesque.

Unless it came up since my last visit in May 2005 :

It's a fake. Somebody did a lousy job of trying to fake it as well... It just looks like they cut and pasted pictures to make it... That's the second one like it I've seen on Wikipedia. I bet the person who posted that is just itching for a new skyscraper (aka 1300 R-L)...

Who was such time for this kind of crazyness?

Oh, so that's what that is... Could someone fill me in on the story behind this proposal? What are the chances of it being built, and in what time frame? I remember seeing a thread about it around here, but I didn't take it too seriously since I got the impression that it was more a "vision" than a real project. Is that true?

It's fake.

I stayed at 1355 Rene Levesque on New Years and I don't recall seeing that building at all.

Would somebody on this forum who is fluent in English, competent with computer communicationh and knowledgeable about Montréal could take the initiative to:

1. Try finding who posted this panoramic photograph on Wikipedia.

If I well understood, the picture was posted by Gjm130. I wonder who is the «User:Gjm130»? It seems he is a «Baseball watcher»!

2. Note the mistake to Wikipedia.

There is a way to edit the information put on the site and thus to correct false information.

If somebody (maybe our moderator, Ashok?) takes the initiative of acting, it would be interesting to be told about it.

PS: There is a world debate (of which Wikipedia free encyclopaedia is an active part) about free access to information world-wide, without royalties. In addition, it seems that many individuals are integrating false information in the encyclopaedia.

AS a corporate Real estate Agent who works in Montreal, I can tell you that the chances of this building going up in the next couple of years is almost nil!

Originally, this project was supposed to have two 35 storey office towers(about 4-5 years ago) then about 18 months ago, it was redrawn and the architects (Architectes DCYSM) put a new rendering of this project(50storey mixed use tower) on their site. UNfortunately we haven't heard anything new about this project in the last 18 months! The demand for Office space just isn't there right now and the condo market has slowed down in the last 12 months, and is expected to continue on its downward spiral!

So like I said, unless some crazy promotor comes around with alot of money to waste(or is very very patient (to sell of all those condo's) we won't be seeing this project anytime soon! Unfortunately!

Why are condos not that popular in Montreal like in other major Canadian cities? I would kill to see another tall to get built in Montreal. I think it is one of the best looking night skylines in North America!

Come to think of it, that bogus picture isn't the only thing odd about that Wikipedia page. In the Downtown Montreal subsection, it say: "The Montreal Skyline is ranked eighth in the Emporis in skyline views, a focal point in Montreal's recognition."

I've looked through Emporis and I haven't been able to find anything to corroborate that claim. Does anyone know anything about that?

people here love living in their own house as far as possible from the city... if they could chose, they would live in a shack in the middle of the country.

Plus there's still so much land to develop around the core that there's no need to build in density. Construction in Montreal is 360 degreets, while in Toronto its only one side (you can't build on the lake).

But that will change in Montreal in the next 10 years or so, when all the empty lots will be gone in the core... developpers will have to develop higher and higher to justify high priced lots.

Another reason is that you can still get a nice house in the burbs (3 bedrooms, Garage, Inground Pool) for under 250,000$ and commute to work under 30 to 40 minutes(during rush hour). Try finding that in Toronto or Vancouver????

For the same thing in those two cities, you'd probably have to pay over 400,000$. In that case it definately is worth it for people to shell out 225,000$ or 250,000$ for a downtown condo. Whereas in Montreal, most people believe that its' just not worth paying 200,000-250,000$ for a downtown condo if you can get a house with a yard and a pool etc.etc.etc. for the same price(and sometimes even less) Condo prices downtown vary between 150,000$ and can easily go up to 300,000-400,000$ and even above 1 million $
