Thanks alheaine! :) Took that photo from a plane. ;) xxxriainxxx December 12th, 2011, 05:20 AM To our Malaysian and Singaporean forumers - San Fernando is very close to Clark Airport/Diosdado Macapagal International Airport which has direct flights to Singapore (Tiger), Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu (Air Asia) and other Asian cities. Say hello to the Giant Christmas Lanterns of Pampanga, Philippines! LIGLIGAN PARUL! On a finer note, San Fernando lights up on the Saturday before Christmas with its Giant Lanterns Festival (Ligligan Parul). The lanterns are approximately 20 feet high, and illuminated by about 3,500 to 5,000 light bulbs that dance to tune of Christmas carols and popular songs. The Lantern Festival was said to have started sometime between 1904-1908. With the popularity of the event, as well as, the presence of Paskuhan Village (Christmas Village, now known as Hilaga Philippines) – the third Christmas theme park in the world and the only one in Asia – San Fernando City also earned the moniker, “Christmas Capital of the Philippines.” Having a Christmas Village, where Christmas is celebrated the whole year round, is not an oddity for Filipinos, where Christmas decorations are put up and Christmas carols can be heard as early as September 1st and as late as the 1st week of January, making the Philippines, the country with the longest Christmas celebration anywhere in the world. http://tourism-philippines.com/images/pampanga-lanterns.jpg http://robinspinzon.com/piks/2008ligliganparul/patdangparul1.jpg http://pampangadirectory.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Giant-Lantern-Fertival.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4008/4198803565_9b8ee887ca.jpg http://bursky.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/100_5828-800.jpg qfgGnfHp6SE xxxriainxxx December 12th, 2011, 05:23 AM ^^^^ You should have done a video something like this gGpvdJNHbqw T2LYVRP4I-o Jt5N6G0KGEM a video is worth more than a picture I did not do a lot of videos- wish I can get a new HD video cam- was only using my DSLR for photos.. the glimpser December 30th, 2011, 12:51 PM Sharing with you a photo of a beach in Palawan that won first place in an international National Geographic photography contest.. http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/8287/640georgetapan.jpg Source: http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/photo/13856/pinoy-travel-photographer-wins-natgeo-photo-contest# jaygold06 January 1st, 2012, 03:26 PM Happy New Year!!! Universal Pictures' “The Bourne Legacy,” the fourth movie based on the Robert Ludlum novels, will start filming in Manila, the country’s capital, this week. Scheduled to be released in theaters Aug. 3, the latest installment in the spy series was written and is being directed by Tony Gilroy -- who penned the first three films -– and will be the first without Matt Damon playing the title role. Bourne is not a character in the new movie. Jeremy Renner, instead, will portray an agent in the same line of business as Bourne, with Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton co-starring.Read more (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2012/01/bourne-legacy-makes-a-stop-in-the-philippines.html) hakz2007 January 12th, 2012, 01:34 AM More Fun In The Philippines! http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee423/Aklandia/atiatihan_r.jpg Photo Credit to Google Images http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa426/xianmen/BacolodGovernmentCenter.jpg Bacolod City Government Center Negros Occidental, Philippines www.bacolodcity.gov.ph http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee423/Aklandia/Ati-Atihan-warriors.jpg http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/390900_325038854196965_128752563825596_1047702_387144451_n.jpg Source: PhotoworldManila (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=325038854196965&set=a.154352107932308.32475.128752563825596&type=1&ref=nf) ... The food-based friendship centres around the brine shrimp the fishermen are catching and the trust between man and the world's largest fish is evident to see. http://62.0.5.134/i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/01/10/article-2084508-0F63102000000578-399_964x635.jpg http://62.0.5.133/i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/01/10/article-2084508-0F6311C200000578-158_964x560.jpg http://62.0.5.134/i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/01/10/article-2084508-0F63164600000578-305_964x622.jpg Read more (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2084508/The-touching-scenes-friendship-Filipino-fishermen-worlds-biggest-fish-man-nature.html) xxxriainxxx January 13th, 2012, 09:09 AM http://s1-05.twitpicproxy.com/photos/full/494797838.jpg http://s1-03.twitpicproxy.com/photos/large/494260056.jpg http://s1-05.twitpicproxy.com/photos/large/494248026.jpg reign January 15th, 2012, 04:26 PM Beautiful Palawan ! https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/312147_121065914666413_119073424865662_105803_117402878_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/307850_121065957999742_119073424865662_105804_1036303469_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/294713_121066031333068_119073424865662_105807_160079913_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/309087_121066097999728_119073424865662_105810_1936339503_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/308873_121066111333060_119073424865662_105811_422025514_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/315332_121066941332977_119073424865662_105819_1259186_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/299737_121067027999635_119073424865662_105823_836752309_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/307662_121067051332966_119073424865662_105824_1180517160_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/310437_121067121332959_119073424865662_105827_49809593_n.jpg I just had an orgasmic visual feast right there. I don't know what to think. Is it bad for the whale sharks? is it good? is it neutral? more studies need to be made. At least the sharks aren't being slaughtered. However, if these whale sharks made it up north where there are CRAZY CHINESE POACHERS, then that's just bad. The Chinese should be patrolled around these parts. 12jairien14 January 17th, 2012, 01:06 AM  Paseo del Mar - Zamboanga Int'l Port Panorama http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6091/6298093065_c564be0f7b_b.jpg credits to the owner of the photos Asia's Latin City & Asia's Most Colorful City! Dela Cruz | Manila Times | Thursday | January 26, 2012 http://www.manilatimes.net/images/news/Headlines/jan_2012/boracay20120126.jpg This 2003 file photo shows tourists sunbathing on Boracay’s fourkilometer, sun-kissed strip of shoreline called “White Beach”. AFP PHOTO A travel website has named the Philippines’ famous Boracay island as the best beach in Asia. The website www.TripAdvisor.com’s Travelers’ Choice 2011 also voted the island as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. “At only 4.5 miles long, Boracay is small enough to navigate by rented bicycle or motorbike. But don’t let its small size fool you—you’ll have several excellent beaches to choose from,” it said. “Yapak Beach is known for beautiful white shells; White Beach has picture-perfect sunsets; and Balinghai Beach is a secluded spot, perfect for honeymooners. As long as you visit during dry season, you’ll agree this is one of the best beach destinations in the world,” the website added. Included in the list of 25 best beaches in the world were Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands (No. 1); Boracay, Philippines (No. 2 ); Palm/Eagle beach, Aruba island (No.3 ); Negril, Jamaica (No. 4); Tulum, Mexico (No.5); Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (No. 6); Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman island (No. 7); Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (No. 8); Cape May, New Jersey (No. 9) and Santa Teresa, Costa Rica (No. 10). The website said that the ranking was based on the travelers’ reviews and ratings. In Asia, the top best beaches were: Boracay, Philippines; Maldives, Koh Phangan, Thailand; Koh Samui, Thailand; Khao Lak, Thailand; Ko Phi Phi Don, Thailand; Gili Trawangan, Indonesia; Krabi Town, Thailand; Ko Lanta, Thailand; and Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam. Best destinations The website also included the summer capital of the Philippines—Baguio City—in its Top Best Destinations in Asia. The City of Pines ranked 22nd in the best destinations category. “Baguio, perched high in the Cordillera Central Mountains, is a great place to escape the heat of the Philippine lowlands. Camp John Hay, originally built as a recreation area for US soldiers, now is a full-fledged resort complete with a world-class golf course. Definitely stop at the city market, where you can buy almost anything (just be prepared to haggle),” it said. Hong Kong was named the best destination in Asia while Cape Town, South Africa was adjudged the best in the world. In its list of best hotels, TripAdvisor’s included Dave’s Straw Hat Inn in Boracay and Padre Burgos Castle Resort in Southern Leyte as Top Hotels for Service in Asia, which ranked 14th and 18th, respectively, while the Alegre Beach Resort in Cebu ranked 25th in All-Inclusive Resorts in Asia. Dubbed the “Festival of Festivals”, Panaad (Hiligaynon for a vow and its fulfillment) is a colorful and jubilant presentation of individual festivals of the 13 cities and 19 municipalities of Negros Occidental. It presents Bacolod City’s famous Masskara, La Carlota’s rhythmic Pasalamat, San Carlos City’s multi-awarded Pintaflores, Kabankalan City’s Sinulog, Bago City’s Babaylan, Escalante City’s Manlambus, Sagay City’s Sinigayan, Cadiz City’s Dinagsa, Mambukal’s Mudpack, San Enrique’s Bulang-Bulang, La Castellana’s Bailes de Luces, Don Salvador Benedicto’s Kali-Kalihan, and many more. It brings together the 32 LGUs in an array of theme booths that showcase their history, arts and culture, tourism, commerce, trade and industry, in the 25-hectare eucalyptus trees-lined Panaad Park and Sports Complex. Panaad is also a time renewing bonds or initiating friendships. The festival attracts most of the 2.6 million-strong Negrenses, their balikbayan relatives and friends, who get a glimpse of the best offerings of the towns and cities in a tour of the uniquely designed booths, as well as in cultural presentations and friendly competitions for beauty, talent, skills, and in sports. Free shows or concerts by popular Manila-based artists add fun and excitement to the festivities. The fun continues in the food and drinks alley that offer the famous chicken inasal, grilled fish and seafood, including various shellfish, oysters, and scallops. Local bands perform nightly till way past midnight in the food and drinks alley. Panaad also features the gains the province has achieved in its diversification efforts and its priority agenda, particularly in Food Sufficiency and Agricultural Productivity. It is seriously developing its rice and corn industries and positioning livestock as its second major industry, next to sugar. With the Negrenses’ pioneering spirit, Negros is no longer just sugar; it is also cutflowers and ornamentals, high value fruits and organically-grown vegetables, prawns and seafood, champion fighting cocks, exquisite handcrafted gift items and houseware, world-class furniture and garments, and many more. Panaad is a thanksgiving celebration and an exhibition of the best of Negros Occidental… now, “Sugar… and more!” http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7174/6772818131_917f1a642f_b.jpg reign January 31st, 2012, 02:19 PM  Palapag (N. Off road drive via 4x4, the lahar painted landscape, the Aeta Village, the terrain, the surprise at how the entire place near the crater is well maintained despite the absence of electricity, the courteous drivers and guides, the tour main man, the view, communion with nature, and great company all made this day something I'll remember for a long while. The island of Camiguin is of volcanic origin and composed of four young “stratovolcanoes” overlying older volcanic structures. These include Mt. Vulcan and Mount Hibok-Hibok, still considered active having last erupted in 1953. History records show that Mount Vulcan started as a volcanic fissure on April 30, 1871 after weeks of earthquakes on the island. After continuously spewing out lava into the sea, it gained a height of nearly 2,000 feet and submerged areas of Catarman, including the former capitol’s cemetery. Today, all that remains of old Catarman are the ruins of an ancient Spanish San Roque church, a convent and a bell tower. Remnants of the structures and gravestones of the cemetery were still seen during low tide until 1948 when Mount Vulcan erupted for the fourth time, which buried the area deeper by 20 feet. In 1982, a large cross was built on the solidified lava to mark this old gravesite. How to get to Camiguin: The closest airport to Camiguin is in Cagayan de Oro City. From there, head for the bus terminal in Agora Market. Take a bus to Balingoan town and then hop on a ferry bound for Camiguin Island. The trip usually takes an hour before you reach Benoni Wharf of Mahinog, which is 17 kilometers from the capital town of Mambajao. You can also take a three-hour ferry ride from the Cagayan de Oro Ferry Terminal to the town of Guinsiliban in Camiguin http://loqal.ph/travel-and-outdoors/2010/07/01/the-story-behind-the-famous-sunken-cemetery-in-camiguin/ inno4321 March 29th, 2012, 05:35 PM more more.... reign March 29th, 2012, 05:54 PM Caramoan , Camarines Sur http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7206/6999564575_b9cbc0cb2b_c.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emorey/6999564575/) Caramoan2012 (222) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emorey/6999564575/) by amorey (http://www.flickr.com/people/emorey/), on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7278/6853442364_1fea278420_c.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emorey/6853442364/) Caramoan (322) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emorey/6853442364/) by amorey (http://www.flickr.com/people/emorey/), on Flickr http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6044/6853440878_0ce895be33_c.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emorey/6853440878/) Caramoan2012 (221) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emorey/6853440878/) by amorey (http://www.flickr.com/people/emorey/), on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7105/6999563625_b609c8005f_c.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emorey/6999563625/) Caramoan (320) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emorey/6999563625/) by amorey (http://www.flickr.com/people/emorey/), on Flickr reign March 29th, 2012, 06:11 PM Bohol The Virgin Island https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/425942_3267967624234_1418616097_3131563_405575629_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/427382_3267293607384_1418616097_3131369_603123666_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/423475_3267967984243_1418616097_3131564_819287075_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/425511_3267968184248_1418616097_3131565_1848180685_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/398479_3267968744262_1418616097_3131567_81695918_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/431316_3267142203599_1418616097_3131243_237196298_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/432107_3267146723712_1418616097_3131252_1841253295_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/431377_3267299047520_1418616097_3131375_1492240038_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/396300_3267302247600_1418616097_3131378_521526342_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/421725_3267171684336_1418616097_3131271_1260791939_n.jpg Balicasag Island https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/407438_3267975184423_1418616097_3131570_1805799323_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/409395_3267974744412_1418616097_3131569_103705973_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/418814_3267074481906_2031928457_n.jpg the glimpser March 31st, 2012, 08:08 AM Aklan Province, Central Philippines 4vK-ZXrct7E oyiQUqamEyw reign April 2nd, 2012, 05:28 PM Cebu another one of Cebu's various white beaches :) BANTAYAN ISLAND, CEBU credits to the photo owners :) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7197/6861440579_a016f622c0_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/28092785@N07/6861440579/) Santa Fe Bantayan Island Philippines (http://www.flickr.com/photos/28092785@N07/6861440579/) by hayden carlyon (http://www.flickr.com/people/28092785@N07/), on Flickr http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2430/3636644909_9d36f7ecfc_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emwing/3636644909/) Just Under the Horizon (http://www.flickr.com/photos/emwing/3636644909/) by Lemuel Montejo (http://www.flickr.com/people/emwing/), on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3349/3627092973_68be458bb4_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/20743767@N08/3627092973/) serenity (http://www.flickr.com/photos/20743767@N08/3627092973/) by Dalven Cruel (http://www.flickr.com/people/20743767@N08/), on Flickr http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6136/6020670929_990ecbbb11_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tybatilo/6020670929/) Sandbar (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tybatilo/6020670929/) by T y Batilo (http://www.flickr.com/people/tybatilo/), on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3569/3381724726_9ddb7ec066_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/24978197@N05/3381724726/) Summer, summer (http://www.flickr.com/photos/24978197@N05/3381724726/) by RuCus (http://www.flickr.com/people/24978197@N05/), on Flickr Yellow Fever April 6th, 2012, 02:25 AM white sandy beach, blue sky and green water make this island looks simply wonderful! the glimpser April 6th, 2012, 04:08 AM ^^ Thank you! Dakak dive sites in the beach resort provide a variety of environment from gradual slopes to coral thickets, vertical walls and caves. Marine life is assorted. Some spots are thick with soft coral growth and huge basket sponges, others with schools of jacks, surgeons, and small reef inhabitant. Liuay Rock A low dive, sloping bottom, and a good selection of invertebrates, especially soft corals. Unusual nudibranchs and several species of starfish. Good for novices for general poking around. Ideal for check-out dives. The Caves Striking walls drop to an average of 60 degrees where there is a sandy bottom and a series of caves occupied by sweepers, soldier fish, puffer fish, and sea plumes. Some nice bushes of black coral are seen here. Night diving is impressive with Spanish dancers, sleeping fish and a wide diversity of nocturnal crustaceans. Mushrom Wall At only 10 ft, the shallow roof area turns to a nice wall with fan corals, encrusting sponges, crevices, small ledges and dramatic undercuts, bottoming out at 60 feet. Huge scraps of hard corals (Stag horn, lettuce leaf) with thousands of reef fish separate Mushroom Wall from "The Caves" on its end and to Snapper Ridge to the West. The Gardens A sequence of coral gardens, small walls, sandy area with coral heads and slopes with soft corals. Plenty of anthias, hawk fish, and invertebrates. Good for snorkeling and for trainee or beginner in diving. Cesar's Reef Tiny reef area with bounded coral covers. Rich with large fish such as napoleon wrasses (Chiefly tropical marine fishes with fleshy lips and powerful teeth; usually brightly colored), tuna and parrot fish. View schools of surgeon fish, barracuda (Any voracious marine fish of the genus Sphyraena having an elongated cylindrical body and large mouth with projecting lower jaw and long strong teeth), snappers, and blue-spotted sting rays. For experienced divers only. The Wreck Seven year old sunken passenger liner with bottom depth of 180 feet, and 130 feet at its highest point. Big schools of fish from deck such as black and white snappers, red snapper, jacks, and groupers. Great visibility. For adventurous, experienced divers. Octopus Wall Small wall with pretty growth, octopuses, scorpion fish, sponges, tubastrea, continuous into a slope to the north with some strange crinoids covered formations provide a very scenic view of rudderfish, groupers, etc. Buchok's Reef A series of large coral mounds with nice selection of marine life: giant reef rays, small white tip sharks, unicorn surgeons, snappers and sweetlips. For experienced divers only. Challenger Reef The reef area is almost half the size of Aligua, its top is about 125 feet deep, with soft coral growth. The northern part of the island has short walls and a long narrow opening and a few juvenile fish. Romy's Reef Plenty of coral mounds, with enormous basket sponges, a fine and nice selection of reef fish and invertebrates. Sightings have been reported of blue spotted rays and a few turtles. Some coral damage and unfruitful areas though; eastern area though has massive coral thickets and extends through to Escuelahan. Eskuelahan Named for the numerous schools of fish (snappers, jacks, rainbow runners, surgeons, etc) and occasional tuna found in the area. It is a center of activity with fish of all sizes feeding. Giant frog fish have been also sighted. Currents may be a problem for novice divers. It is said that one of the most marvelous sunsets in the city could be witnessed here. http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4266.jpg A view of the city’s busy port could also be seen from Paseo del Mar. Until it comes more alive at night with live bands, food stalls and colorful decorative lamps lighting up the park. http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4274.jpg http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4272.jpg Paseo del Mar Musically Gyrating Dancing Fountain It was also a coincidence that during our visit, on the 23rd of March, it was also the city’s launching of their first ever (and probably Philippines’ as I haven’t seen one like it before anywhere else in our country) Dancing Musically Gyrating Fountain. March 27, 2012 Exploring Asia’s Latin City: Ciudad de Zamboanga http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_3914.jpg http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_3920.jpg Exploring Zamboanga City Zamboanga City is known as the “Latin City of Asia” for its strong Hispanic/Latin influence. Even from the moment we’ve arrived at the city, I was already fascinated by the numerous Spanish looking architecture that lined the streets – from private homes, commercial buildings, and even their government offices. More fascinating is hearing locals speak in Chavacano or hearing Spanish-sounding conversations … I loved it because it made me feel interested to learn more about the local culture … that’s something that doesn’t happen too often when one travel in the Philippines. Zamboanga exudes a sort of cosmopolitan aura … not in a global sense (obviously) but there are a lot of strong multicultural influences that set it apart from being just like any other city in the Philippines. I loved walking around the city to see exquisite Spanish-colonial structures still in good condition. I was actually impressed at how the city government had maintained their beautiful heritage and preserve their environment, I hope more cities will make an example out of Zamboanga City. http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_3935.jpg full story here (http://adventuroj.wordpress.com/2012/03/27/exploring-asias-latin-city-ciudad-de-zamboanga/). March 30, 2012 Get Wet in Pink: Sta Cruz Island (aka The Pink Island), Zamboanga City On our second day, we went on a morning trip to the famous pink sand beach of the Santa Cruz islands. To think that this parcel of Paradise is just 10 minutes away from the city proper … who wouldn’t dare visit it? http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4360.jpg http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4372.jpg Zamboanga: Santa Cruz Island and its Pink Sand A pink sand beach is very rare and there are only a few of them around the globe. They can be found in Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda, 3 islands from the Bahamas, Culebra in Puerto Rico, Maui in Hawaii, Santorini in Greece, Barbuda in the Carribean, Crane Beach in Barbados, and here in The Great Santa Cruz Islands in the Philippines. http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4381.jpg http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4385.jpg So how did this beach got its pink sand qualities? It’s mainly because of these endangered Red Organ-Pipe Corals. From eons of natural surf erosion, these red organ-pipe corals were pulverized and mixed with the white sands resulting to its colorization. These corals are considered rare due to its unique qualities of a soft coral having a hard skeleton. Here’s a sample: http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4402.jpg What I particularly love about the island, aside from its pristine blue waters is the serenity of the place. It’s not as crowded as the ones you’ll find in Boracay or Palawan. And I think if you are like me, who prefers areas where you could find peace of mind and truly say that you’re in a vacation (coz people go for vacations to rest right?), you’ll love it here. http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4382.jpg The locals are also very friendly. You could find a bunch of them here selling souvenir items (mostly sea shells, rock stones and authentic pearls carved and made into necklaces, bracelets, keychains for very affordable prices). There are also swimming goggles and snorkeling sets for rent for those who’d like to view the underwater. http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4479.jpg http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4480.jpg http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4485.jpg Some locals would also offer to cook food for you, just in time coz we actually didn’t bring any ‘baon’ (the Filipino way of calling packed meals). The one we’ve talked to offered to cook us a kilogram of rice for a hundred pesos and crabs (as seen in the image below) 6 big pieces (almost 2kg) I think for just 100php. Imagine that?! Yummy!! http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4515.jpg http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_4516.jpg full story here (http://adventuroj.wordpress.com/2012/03/30/get-wet-in-pink-sta-cruz-island-aka-the-pink-island-zamboanga-city/). ^^ 12jairien14 April 10th, 2012, 12:45 PM March 29, 2012 Looking Back: A Visit at Fort Pilar and the National Museum of Zamboanga City Just before sunset, we’ve decided to complete our historical visit at Zamboanga City by taking a peek at the Fort Pilar and the National Museum. http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/fort-pilar-zamboanga-15.jpg http://adventuroj.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/fort-pilar-zamboanga-18.jpg Fort Pilar Founded in 1635 as a garrison during the Spanish period, Fort Pilar serves as a present day open-air shrine. Situated within the historic Fort Pilar, the museum is named in honor of Nuestra Seńora del Pilar, patroness of Zamboanga. Below are some of the artifacts that could be found inside. Boats from all over the world, of all shapes and sizes find refuge in Tambobo Bay in Siaton, Negros Oriental, backdropped by the majesty of mountains. Forested by extensive mangroves, the bay is one hour from the capital Dumaguete City. LYN RILLON Siaton, Negros Oriental—Michael Prader, a retired artist from Austria, was travelling in Asia in search of the simple life when he heard about the Philippines where “even people in the villages speak English.” His journey brought him to the Tambobo Bay, a beautiful cove in the quiet town of Siaton in Negros Oriental. With an extensive mangrove forest and a rich marine life, it is an ecological sanctuary situated at the southern end of Negros island, almost facing the Sulu Sea. He totally fell in love with the place that he lost no time renting a bamboo house to start building his dream boat. That was 10 years ago. Now building a second sailboat, Michael, 60, is just one of the many foreign travelers who have found a safe haven in Tambobo and have chosen to live in boats moored in the bay’s still waters. With the majestic Mt. Talinis and the Cuernos de Negros mountain range for backdrop, it is not surprising that many world travelers have found a home in Tambobo Bay. Schooners, sloops, catboats, sunfish (a type of sailboat), catamarans, ketches and yawls—name it, they can be found in Tambobo. So comfortable and enchanting is the place that some sailors, finding the exotic girls of their dreams, have settled down and raised a family. Cruisers are particularly attracted to the cove, an hour’s travel from the capital city of Dumaguete, because it shelters their boats from typhoons. Couple aboard Pilar Diane, a graphic artist-designer, and her husband Bill, a forensic geologist in the United States, arrived in Tambobo Bay in 2000 on board a 35-foot Atkins sailboat called “Pilar,” which was named after the heroine in Hemingway’s “For whom the Bell Tolls.” It took them nine years to launch Pilar and seven more before they left San Francisco, California, in 1991 to see the world. Asked why it took them so long to build Pilar, they said it was because they put more importance to the process of building it together than just sailing it and reaching the goal. In their sailing adventures, they were able to visit the remote islands of Mangareva, Caroline Island and Kapingamarangi, to name a few. It was while on the Solomon Islands that they learned about Tambobo from other cruisers. “We were attracted to Tambobo immediately because there are not a lot of places in the world that are safe for boats; even expensive when there’s a marina,” Diane said. “Here in Tambobo, we can leave our boats because it’s safe. This is not a tourist thing like in the Caribbean or Hawaii; we see Tambobo as our little paradise.” It turned out to be an extended stay for them in Tambobo. They eventually acquired a small space along the shore which became a studio and workshop. Like Michael, Diane said she and her husband were enjoying the simple life, including the sheer pleasure of having time to read a book. One local even asked Diane how the Yachties live and if they have a table in their boat. Life in a boat Pilar has a two-cylinder engine, which runs an average of 24 hours on 27 gallons of fuel for 100 nautical miles at five knots. It has berths for four people to sleep on, a toilet and bath, a galley with a sink, an oven, a stove fueled by wood, and a canning machine, 90 gallons of water that could last her a month and a storage for everything. They have a table but no refrigerator, electric fans, hot water or GPS. “Bill and I are dinosaurs,” Diane jested. Upon their arrival in Tambobo in 2000, Diane offered to teach one child how to read on weekends. “Then many came,” and the One Candle Schoolhouse was born. The couple taught the children to translate English storybooks into Cebuano or weave an original story based on a picture storybook. Bill built a carpentry shop, and began teaching locals how to repair and build boats. Budget lessons At first, they had kids aged 5 to 15 years. They would take them to the market to teach them how to budget money; each would be given some amount to buy ingredients for a recipe they were going to cook. They would also take the kids for a tour of Dumaguete. “We took them to the bookstore, an Internet cafe, an art show along the boulevard, and took them for a ride on the escalator at the local store.” Other cruisers volunteered to teach the children sailing, pottery or painting or donate good-quality musical instruments. Others would drive their motorbikes from their home in Dumaguete or Valencia to Tambobo twice a week to teach the children literature or computer applications like Photoshop and Excel. “I feel good simply being with the local residents of Tambobo because I feel that we’re all connected, and that we can help each other to get better together,” Diane said. “Being in a community like Tambobo puts depth in my life.” http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/176881/what-lures-yachties-to-stay-happy-in-negros-bay hakz2007 April 15th, 2012, 11:32 AM Featuring Philippine festivals and traditions in ABS-CBN Summer Station ID 2012! B6yMVGJO7Ws brockupo April 19th, 2012, 05:06 PM Mactan Island, Lapu-Lapu City, CEBU, Philippines all photos from http://www.aboitizland.com/industrial/3212:economic_zone_mez2.html The rightful place for Lapu-lapu's monument from Rizal Park: http://www.aboitizland.com/templates/aland2011/galleries/mactan/1.jpg More Mactan pictures: http://www.aboitizland.com/templates/aland2011/galleries/mactan/3.jpg brockupo April 19th, 2012, 05:07 PM http://www.aboitizland.com/templates/aland2011/galleries/mactan/5.jpg http://www.aboitizland.com/templates/aland2011/galleries/mactan/6.jpg brockupo April 19th, 2012, 05:08 PM http://www.aboitizland.com/templates/aland2011/galleries/mactan/7.jpg http://www.aboitizland.com/templates/aland2011/galleries/mactan/8.jpg brockupo April 19th, 2012, 05:13 PM Guitars Made in Mactan Island, Cebu http://www.aboitizland.com/templates/aland2011/galleries/mactan/16.jpg http://www.aboitizland.com/templates/aland2011/galleries/mactan/17.jpg all photos from http://www.aboitizland.com/industrial/3212:economic_zone_mez2.html reign April 20th, 2012, 01:19 PM Originally posted by SNPKLSDMBLDR Basilica de San Martin de Tours, Taal, Batangas Basilica de San Martin de Tours is a Minor Basilica in the town of Taal, Batangas in the Philippines. The drink was recently launched by the Department of Tourism (DOT) in cooperation with the Makati Shangri-La hotel as part of its efforts to attract more foreigners to the country. Described as “distinctly Filipino,” Manila Sunshine has “lambanog,” or coconut wine, as its base. It also has the flavors of local fruits mango and pineapple, with a tinge of triple sec and dark rum from Tanduay, an alcoholic beverage in the Philippines. The cocktail is garnished with “tanglad” or lemongrass, and a sliced pineapple. http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/lifestyle/05/14/12/manila-now-has-signature-cocktail brockupo May 21st, 2012, 06:30 PM Video1 by Nick Sagada Pagudpud Roadtrip Philippines RnqNyuWmvrI Video2 by Nick Visayas Sailing kitetrip Philippines 27YVlO9K9Ds Video by wallyann Whale Shark Encounter at Tan-awan Oslob, Cebu Philippines rT2sHGx9jF8 |
