Any suggestions as to where they will go? Its a great attraction. I have a feeling they may go to the IWM at Salford Quays in Manc.

Will they fit down the Shit Canal? :? Wait until the gates at Canning are fixed and lob them in there.

How's about sending them to Preston, could be positioned along the M6 motorway, signalling your arrival to Preston, Maritime city, where the battle of the Chorley cackes was fought, resulting in the sinking of said U-Boat. :)

They MUST go into Canning Dock, to form two memorials, Battle of the Atlantic and the Falklands War. The German U-Boat with HMS Whimbrel would make a stunning sight with the Captain Johnny Walker statue on the Quayside. I would dedicate all of Canning Dock to warships, the narrow boats and others could moor in Salthouse Dock and if we can get a few Tall Ships the Albert could accomodate them.

We are not short of water space, its high time we started to fill it.

Canning Dock would be great and surely the proximatey to the Maritime Museum would help to run and maintain them as well as boosting visitor numbers.

The idea of the U-Boat and Johnny Walker squaring up again is fantastic.

I'd love to see them moved there rather than in Salford or Preston (sorry Acura), but from what i've heard i don't the warship fits through the dock!

I'm a bit concerned that they're just going to get moved to a scrapyard.........

I subscribe to the Irish Sea Ships group and the consensus is that if no funds are forthcoming, the U534 Boat will be taken back to Denmark by it's owners Den Bla Avis.

Dave that would be a real blow, especially to all veterans and families who lost people helping to keep this country alive during those dark days. I have just caught up with this thread and I totally agree with Woody's suggestion about these ships going to Canning Dock.

Does anyone know what Wirral councils position is on this?? they don't seem to have made any kind of effort here, or have I missed something??

Where's English Heritage in all this? Surely this is the sort of thing that they should be spending their time fighting for?

EH have their heads so far up their own backsides wallowing in the power trip that WHS has given, that they are completely missing the point of their existence. I would be fully supportive of EH if they were banging on WBC doors and trying to sort this one out. Instead they focus attention on the Ropewalks being overlooked by a tower!! it's well past their sell by date and the sooner they realise this the better.

What about national lottery grant, would make a change from posh opera for the toffs, or minority lesbian flower pressing courses.

Anyone know why the Trust is reluctant to cooperate?

This was an encouraging story, it's about time Wirral council pulled it's finger out, strange one this could it be anything to do with elections tomorrow?? NWDA should stump up more than £100k should be at least double that amount!!
