th0m February 6th, 2006, 03:49 PM Wow. Sweet stadium! I like the exterior as well as the huge glass facade on one side.
MoreOrLess February 6th, 2006, 04:02 PM Very nice stadium, similar idea to one of the Valencia proposals with the stands rising out of a wide complex.
I'm supprized Spain havent put their hat in for a european championships, they havent hosted it since the 60's and quite franky with all the new stadiums being built plus the Bernabeu and Nou Camp they'd blow any of the other bids out of the water.
charagones February 6th, 2006, 04:28 PM The author of this project is Estudio Lamela (http://www.lamela.com), the same of T4 in Madrid-Baraja airport and the enclosure of the façade and the roof of the east side of the Bernabeu stadium.
BaronVonChickenpants February 6th, 2006, 04:35 PM looks great, reminds me a bit of the Ricoh Arena in Coventry(well, the side of the staduim with the boxes)

Lostboy February 6th, 2006, 09:18 PM An amazing stadium, I like that the reconstruction brings in an ultra-modern stadium with a very nice design, but doesn't go for an unneccessarily high and unrealistic capacity. Beautiful.
I'm supprized Spain havent put their hat in for a european championships, they havent hosted it since the 60's and quite franky with all the new stadiums being built plus the Bernabeu and Nou Camp they'd blow any of the other bids out of the water.
Come on, with stadia like theirs, they should be setting their sights a lot higher, they would easily have one of the best bids in 2018 for the Worl... (ah I see what your doing now). Yes bid for the Euro's you should easily get it, you'll put on the best European Championship ever, and we'll back you all the way.

They'd be very hard pressed me make a case that they deserve a world cup before England get it again. At least the Germans could claim their was only 8 years difference and that a united germany had not hosted it before.
Lostboy February 7th, 2006, 06:55 PM It would still have been over thirty years since they hosted it, and given the very limited pool of countries capable of hosting a World Cup, thats not particularly an insignificant amount of time. Of course as an Englishman, I very much hope to see us get the bid, but if Spain decide to bid, we should rely on producing a far better bid than them, not on the argument of the amount of time that will have elapsed since we last hosted it.
bubomb February 7th, 2006, 07:01 PM The best bid should get the World Cup, that's what counts.
I would much prefer Spain, as I like to travel to a World Cup and use the tournament as a holiday. I don't fancy going on holiday to Newcastle!!

How much is going to cost? Anyone?
70.000.000 Euros which includes knock down of current stadium. :)
manicants2004 February 7th, 2006, 08:08 PM When you look at designs like that it makes you appreciate just how dull and conventional the new Wembley Stadium is minus the arch.
ManchesterISwonderful February 7th, 2006, 08:19 PM New Wembley's pretty standard fare. But I do like it.
70 big'ens? That's cheap.
I also like the new Lazio stadium that's planned. Also very slick.

miguelon July 29th, 2008, 10:32 PM there is a link to a local news paper, (heraldo.es) its kind of long to translate completly,
but i'll give you the main points:
work on the ground should start by summer 2009, now the cost will be 103.5 m euro, and will take 24 months to get the stadium done
the "description" of this design that is on a concept stage, "is of a compact building, with stands conceived as a great boiling point, in order to favor a fell or sense of unity among fans"
the designer will be Aragon-born Joaquin Sicilia, and it will be build in Miraflores, San Jose.
this concept is the winner of the 3rd. bid that has been done to get a new stadium
the main advantage of the Sicilia bid, was that it responded to boiling point efect, and the colective feeling among fans- Said Enrique de Teresa, one of the biding judges.
After winning the dib, Sicilia has 4 months to present a more advanced proyect, after that all the permits and paperwork will have to be done, so that construction can start in summer 2009.
The stadium has some similarities to Allianz Areana and Beijing Olympic Stadium, but with abstractions of some "trazos mudejares" (some local art or architecture form).
This new stadium will put special atention on sustentability.
Also a comercial area, imitating a "andalucian patio" or terrace. was highly evaluated by the judges.
Thats about it.
miguelon July 29th, 2008, 10:39 PM the sidelines and the steepness of the stands, plus the roof, should do the job for a great athmosphere.
and for "only" 103.5 m euro, thats a grat deal
www.sercan.de July 29th, 2008, 10:43 PM whats the capacity?
Chimaera July 29th, 2008, 10:43 PM I'm particularly fond of the interior, which allows for a great football atmosphere.
whats the capacity?50,000 right?

Today the new Zaragoza's Stadium has been unveiled. It has been designed by the Zaragozano Joaquin Sicilia.
It will has a capacity of 43.000 spectators and it could be upgraded until 50.000 seats.
The works will start in 2009 and it is expected to be finished in 2011.
You have a video of the Stadium at the end of this page: http://ellocaldelavida.blogspot.com/2008/07/el-estadio-es-nuestro.html

berkshire royal July 30th, 2008, 01:51 PM I like the look of projects number 1 for its roof and colours but it is a rip off of Basel. I like the look of Project number 5 for its interior which is very unique from anything in Europe. And from the outside Project number 7 looks pretty decent. Project number 6 for me from that quick glance looks the worst. Is there any more renders of any of these projects?
Chimaera July 30th, 2008, 01:54 PM Not the rip-off discussions again. The third tier concept bears some resemblance, that's all. But it stretches further along the end stands than at St-Jakobs Park.
Miguel23 July 30th, 2008, 01:56 PM EDIT:

'50013' is the name of the project and refers to the Postcode (ZIP) of the area where the stadium is going to be built (all postcodes in Zaragoza are 50xxx). But it also has much to do with the final required (after upgrade) capacity of 50000, according to the words of the arquitect.

I'm not saying its a rip off but it basically is a more complete version especially when you look at it from a birds eye view the two are similar. Dont get me wrong though if this stadium gets built it will be a great stadium.

Thanks a lot shows the stadium in a different way to that first image. I have to say i don't like the look of this one from an aerial view it’s a bit over the top for me. Still if this is the one that gets selected at least it is unique much prefer this to a boring plastic bowl.
Chimaera July 30th, 2008, 02:19 PM Personally I'm just getting a little bit bored with the inflatable-boat designs.

_tauste_ July 30th, 2008, 03:59 PM This is a comparation of the 3 projects that we have had until now to build a new Stadium in Zaragoza. The 2 first were finally cancelled and the last one it is the current project.
I think that despite waiting so many years we have the best proyect for Zaragoza.

Chimaera July 30th, 2008, 04:06 PM Unfortunately we don't see the lower stand in the latest design. I hope it doesn't have a huge glass wall of skyboxes like the previous design. Blue_caT July 30th, 2008, 04:44 PM The construction may starts on May 2009 and concluded in 2011.
The finance depends on sell building land near the new stadium, a comercial area inside it and a 33 floor office tower next to it.

Construction of the new stadium will start on Fall 2010
The Government of Aragon and the Saragossa city council have set up a new comitee for overseeing the new Stadium' construction. Also, the specification sheet for the feasibility studio has been aproved. If everything goes as expected, the works will start on Fall 2010 and will last for 2 years
Saragossa.- After the bilateral meeting held in December between the Aragon Government and the city council, both administrations have reached a new milestone. The feasibility studio must be completed in two months. The goal is to speed up the paperwork and timetables so the construction can start this Fall with an expected completion on 2012.
The Sports and Public Works councelor, Manuel Blasco, has declared that if everything goes as expected "the stadium would be ready in two years time". The overseeing comitee will be composed by three members of both administrations. According to Blasco, these meetings are puting in motion the agreements reached with the goal of speeding up construction work. Also, he's announced another meeting in fifteen days to constitute the body corporate that will manage the agreement.
Regarding economic involvement, he's reiterated that for the moment it is established at 50% for each administration, but it is open to participation by third entities in the future. Real Zaragoza club will be keep informed at all times of the construction work because "they are an important part of the project".
On possible reassessment of the old stadium terrains, Blasco has pointed out that no decision will be made until the next term. "As of now we're focused on the construction of the new stadium, in the future we will decide what to do with parcel of the Romareda stadium".
