-The Great Lakes region/upper Mississippi River--many great cities (Chicago, Toronto to name a few) and lots of beautiful scenery. Very underrated and overlooked by travellers looking for flashier ports of entry--ie. NYC, San Fran, etc. A must see in Autumn.

-Grand Canyon/Southwestern Deserts-one of the most spectacular parts of the Earth. A definite must see.

-Las Vegas-love it or hate it, its the city of entertainment. It may not be a superdense Hong Kong like city--but only a complete square wouldnt have fun in this oasis of gambling and sex.

-Disneyland, Orlando Flordia--A must see at least once in your lifetime. Bring your kids someday.

-Washington D.C.-very interesting and historical city. Lots of cool stuff to see, even if you dont like the U.S. government.

-The Carribean--Island Paradise at its best.

Btw, it's a long standing diplomatic issue and if i'm not wrong there was an attempt to establish diplomatic relations with Israel back then but was opposed by Muslims at the height of the Palestinian issue. The govt then decided it was too great a risk to take. As a Christian i've always wanted to visit Israel too but it was clearly stated behind our passports that we're not allowed to travel to North Korea and Israel. There are exceptions to that but the procedures are too lenghty and tedious.

Stay in Copenhagen and rent a car or take the train to check out the cities nearby like Roskilde ( old Viking port ), Elsinore ( home of Hamlet ;) and with a nice old castle ) and Køge ( Nice old town with tons of old traditional crooked houses and nice shops and beaches ).

And don't forget to take a daytrip to Malmo Sweden ( only 45 minuttes by train )...


So come and experience what true freedom is all about - and enjoy the best beer and cutest girls in the world :cheers:

I left out European countries in my list. I love Europe and I would like to see every single piece of it. I pushed my mum and dad to go to Cracow this year in May. My mother has always wanted to see Auschwitz and I always wanted to see Cracow, it was the perfect combination. But my dad decided to go to Barcelona instead. Which is not bad at all :D

My Europe list:

A trip to the Baltics and Finland. Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga, Kaunas, Vilnius.

A big Poland trip. Amsterdam-Hamburg-Gdansk-Warsaw-Cracow-Zakopane-Katowice-Wroclaw-Dresden-Berlin-Amsterdam.

I would like to go back to Slovenia once in my life.

A trip to Serbia & Montenegro. Starting in Belgrade and than work my way out to the south and end the trip in Kotor.

I only visited the US once, last summer, and I went to Seattle. I can recommand it to anyone, it's definitely worth a visit. Seattle is a nice city, Vancouver is just around the corner and there are great national parks near Seattle! I love travelling in the US... as I have mentioned somewhere in the travel section it's cheap, modern, have great cities and the girls are cute too :happy:

You're from Stavanger? I was very impressed with Stavanger when I last visited it. It was a very nice large town. Sometimes it rains, but it is mostly comfortable during summer. The shore was beautiful, and all around the region looks clean and rugged. (However I don't really like those winding roads around Stavanger, yet the road quality is obviously better than I expected). Anyway I think you are living in a really nice town, one of the finest I have seen.

If you are thinking of our financial minister saying that she is boycotting Israel, please don't let that ruin your image of Norway. She is from the Social Left party, and not quite up to date with realities. Her party is on the extreme left side and gets around 5% of the votes.(And we got a finance minister from that winnie the poo-party, yes, Norway is fucked). Most people think it is bizarre wanting to boycott the only working democracy in the middle east, and the rest of the goverment has condemned her view.

Have you missed the burned down Norwegian embassy in Syria? Boycott of Norwegian goods, withdrawal of all Norwegians from the Gaza-strip, Syria and Lebanon, withdrawal of all Norwegian aid-workers from most muslim countries(for their own safety), a burned down and looted Telenor HQ in Islamabad, famous Norwegians used as targets in internet-games etc? And a goverment that shivers in their pants and has started to compromise on freedom of speech because of all this violence..but enough of that, there are plenty of threads for that.

A christian fundamentalist newspaper selling 3500 copies printed the cartoons, and ofcourse the goverment could not apologize for that, and all hell broke loose. It has later been revealed that other bigger newspaper printed them aswell, but that doesn't matter aparently.

Increadable! What is strange: also here the BIGGEST newspaper was publishing some of the caricatures. But the foreign minister said: freedom of speech is very important - but respect and tolerance against other cultures as well. We have many muslims living here but we never have real problems - also not in islamic countries (maybe our banks pay them well :lol: - sorry, we hate the politics of our banks ;)). I don't think that it's the job of the government to apologize for something that happens in their country. But they should state clear: it's NOT the oppinion of the government or the people, it is an extremis minority and we don't support humiliatian like that, but have to accept the freedom of the press.

That's the problem: it's always easy to go after symbols as products or embassies. If revenge is so important, burn down that publisher house and leave the population in peace that has nothing to do with it.

BUT: please also we so "high educated and progressive" westerners - accept that there are other cultures as ours and other systems. It's not up to us to tell someone else what's right and wrong and how they should think or lead their countries! Even though that we may think it's so wrong what they do and people have to suffer for it. The Americans also suffer (sooner or later anyway) from their big Führer :lol:

Thank you for saying such nice things about Stavanger. :okay: Some of the things I like about Stavanger is that we have a mild climate and many different types of landscapes surrunding the city.

That's a pity! Northern Norway from Bodo up is the most beautiful country in the world! It's a paradise in my eyes. Was in Finmark many times...

I have heared jewish people are especially interested in Poland and that is a big tourist potential for Poland, that is big potential toruist group and they on average have more money. I have heared that before war more than half of Europes jews were living in Poland so currently many jews have polish roots. I hope Polish tourist board is aware of this potential.

The actual town itself is IMHO a bit of a disapointement, mostly rebuilt, surrounded by a modern city and very touristy. The landscape around it and the smaller villages nearby are worth seeing though.

The area beyond Lijiang/Zhongdian pushing into eastern Tibet is definately near the top of my list, lots of greenery and massively deep gorges rather than the barren plateau people normally accosicate with Tibet.

Yep Ive heard Lijiang is absolutely inundated with tourists but I'd love to go for the architecture alone. Im sure Id find the loudspeaker blasting hordes just as irritating as anyone else, but Im the kind of guy who could stare at a roof for an hour.

If I did make it I'd definitely check out nearby Tiger Leaping Gorge, vying it out with another nearby gorge and the Kali Gandaki in Nepal for the title of the world's deepest.

Its twice the depth of the Grand Canyon, at 10,000 ft deep in places, and 60ft at its narrowest point:

Booked my summer vacation tonight...

I had thought of the US thanks to the low dollar value, but I wanted to visit a country I hadn't been to before, so we ended up with Rome, Italy...

Other than that I think I'll drive up to Oslo in my week off in April...
