View Full Version : 300m Tower for Brisbane - rumor has it;)
JayT February 10th, 2006, 12:33 PM Well - you know I am not one to spread gossip but I could not sit on this one - its just too exciting!!!!
Rumor has it from sources close to me that there is a 300m commercial tower on the books for Brisbane!!!!!
The site...
Red Cross site - yes the developers are changing plans!!! Aparently Residential is out and commercial is in. Shame - it was such a nice residential tower.
Cottee Parker is aparently designing a 300m (round abouts) commercial tower for the site - this was from Cottee Parker architects themselvs.
Again I must stress this is a Rumor although my sources are very reliable.
This could get interesting - Brisbane could end up with Australia's tallest building:D

What a scoop! First Empire Square, then Vision, now 480 Queen Street, JayT does it again!
WOW, well I was just speculating today that a 300m+ office tower would be perfect to fix Brisbane's chronic office shortfall! Talk about wishes coming true!
Well, so Brisbane as the home to Australia's tallest building! Awesome!
Citystyle February 10th, 2006, 01:02 PM Kool but dont expect much more office for a while.
Locke February 10th, 2006, 01:07 PM Hehe, who cares, I just wanna see Brisbane hit 300m! It's been a long time coming!
Leesome February 10th, 2006, 02:34 PM Hell farkin yeah!! Any speculation on how long it'll take for something a little more "official" to be announced?
Leesome February 10th, 2006, 02:35 PM Oh yeah, and it better be 300 to RL, not just another bloody spire!!!!
Gertzy February 10th, 2006, 03:08 PM That sounds awesome, bloody good, be celebrating more if its realeased and Approved :).
Muse February 10th, 2006, 03:11 PM ..and if all goes well, it'll be a Cottee Parker @ this stage...bonus!
The Red Cross site is a drama unfolding in itself.
Thanks JayT

Adamonline February 10th, 2006, 03:47 PM If they can fill it and find the space to build it, then just go for it.
KJBrissy February 10th, 2006, 04:05 PM It's the best way to increase the Office requirements in Brisbane. Office look nicer and it is in a good area for it near/in the golden Triangle. Go for it!!!
shrewd.user February 11th, 2006, 12:07 PM good luck getting a new tower guys :)
KJBrissy February 11th, 2006, 12:27 PM Kool but dont expect much more office for a while.
It must be noted though that Brisbanes Office vacancy rates are still at 3% and with the new offices in Vision, Bris Square etc are not expected to change. This would then make a 330m or taller Office Tower economically viable. And may I push the borders and say that it would be sensible noting that there is less and less space available in the Brisbane CBD for highrise development and the Brisbane City Council is keen to see more taller buildings. At the release of the CBD Masterplan they stated that with this plan we could see Australias tallest building built!! It is obviously on their minds as a possibility in council.
TOCC February 11th, 2006, 12:51 PM even if the new building where to push the vacancy rate up to 5-8% its still viable, it wouldnt be short of filling the space it would probably hurt the building where it sucks the companies from though.
GMAC February 11th, 2006, 04:44 PM Awesome, I was just thinking this morning that a nice tall office tower on that site would be nice, and if Cottee Parker have anything to do with it it will be nice!!!! Im not entirely sure I can see anything going to 300m but its a really nice thought. Funny that it wasnt that long ago that Council were trying to say that Emerald was going to unbalance the skyline, just 100 metres up the road!!!!! LOL
Aussie Bhoy February 12th, 2006, 03:17 AM Wow, awsome, hope it happens, Brisbane is undergoing the most amazing transformation.
I was next to some Canadian tourists on the City Cat last weekend, one of them must live here now, and it was lovely over-hearing all the glowing talk about Brisbane she was giving to what looked like her visiting parents.
DrDan February 12th, 2006, 04:07 AM 100m spire?
Locke February 12th, 2006, 04:14 AM Yeah a spire that takes it to 400m would be alright;)
Fabian February 12th, 2006, 04:14 AM Lucky Ducks. Reach for the skies guys. :) An office tower on that site would be excellent. Right in the commercial heart too.
I have a photo of the rear of the site from Queen St which I will need to post (watch this space).
Also It's pleasing that there has been a shift towards office development in Brisbane. I have a feeling that the residential development in the Brisbane BD could lead to it being placed in a similar situtation to Sydney's CBD, where there's a shortage of sites for commercial development.

As a recent tourist to the city I'd agree. I dont see Brisbane as a big town, but rather as a buregoning Metropolis like its southern neighbours

Citystyle February 17th, 2006, 08:34 AM If this and a few other office towers gets build. Welcome to Perth 92. :jk:
:jk:
Grantus February 18th, 2006, 10:51 AM I dont see any problem with at least something big getting built considering that brissys vacancy rate is quite low atm.
So thinking hyperthetically, if something goes ahead, will it take both that front building with the sold sign and the ugly brown tall behind it? What space exactly will be used on this site???
Malt February 18th, 2006, 02:25 PM The ugly brown tall building is not part of this site. Ill get a site map (From what I remember from the old DA) later

^^
For those who don't know - this is the site.
KJBrissy February 18th, 2006, 03:10 PM It's a pity the ugly brown building between this site and Aurora isn't dissapearing. It would've been good if that were on the site also.
SoulvisionQ1 February 18th, 2006, 03:13 PM yeah but then when we saturate the market with commercial... then up comes the residential weeds... (towers) because the migration to the CBD is still very strong... i know lots of people who want or are moving into the CBD.

Residential is fine as long as it is a good design and as long as it isn't saturating the market. There are some great towers with residential, eg Q1 Aurora, the proposed Vision etc.
