Located in the Meadowlands Sports Complex is Contintal Airlines Arena. It was built in 1981 when it was known as the Brendan Bryne Arena, but everyone just called it the Medowlands Arena. In 1997, it was invested greatly by Continental Airlines to give it the name it is referred to today. In this arena, you will find home games of the NJ Nets and NJ Devils. Princeton University also has some of its home games here. Other events include concerts as well as events that are for kids. The arena seats about 20,029 at most for events. It is easily accesible from the NJ Tpk (I-95), the Lincoln Tunnel (NJ 3), and Paterson Plank Rd (NJ 120). Also, buses from the Port Authourity of NY/NJ have special lines that go here on events for public transportation. Recently, Xandu if building shopping complex near it, to give it a better flavor. Unfortunately, the Devils plan to move to a new arena in downtown Newark, while there are rumors of the Nets going to Brooklyn, though not official yet. Either way, rate the arena.

The outside's nothing special. And what's with the purple-pinkish seats?

I give it a 2.

I gave it a 7 b/c despite its gawdy architecture, it has been home to teams that are actually good. In recent years, the Nets and Devils have been major contenders. However, I am surprised that neither of these teams are getting high attendence figures even though this place is not so difficult to get to, which is way tickets are still pretty cheap for going to their games. The Devils will only be here until their new home in Newark will completed. BTW, nothing is set in stone for the Nets going to Brooklyn right now, so put away those champagne bottles if you were meaning to break them out. On a sidenote, those shots are outdated, so a more updated shot will have construction of what will be of the Xanadu complex as well as a new parking garage that stands beside it.

Interesting looking place, I give it a 6. However Ive heard the new Arena that will built for the Nets in Brooklyn is supposed to be amazing.

Despite its looks, it at least gives a good view of the Manhattan skyline.

Im sorry but it is one of the worst in the NHL/NBA. It is no wonder that the Devils are moving and Nets want too.

The good news for the Nets is, if they can't pull off the Brooklyn Arena in time or at all, they've signed an agreement to play at the new Newark Arena.

So this ugly thing will indeed be vacant, one way or another. :)

5/10...Nothing special IMO :(

- Although having said that, the atmosphere inside looks pretty good! :okay:

I will admit for a place that was engineered by Leslie Robertson Associates, who also did the WTC, I would expect better for this. Although it's said to be in East Rutherford or just Rutherford, it looks as if it's really in the middle of nowhere with a sports complex and an office park hence the hotel and office building that are there as well. According to Epinion (http://www.epinions.com/sprt-Venues-Continental_Airlines_Arena/display_~reviews/sec_~opinion_list/pp_~1/pa_~1#list), it was given a 3.5 stars out of 5 after 36 reviews. It seemed that even though it's litterally the worst designed arena, the teams that play there do not prevent anyone from going there, though many of those reviews are from years ago. Honestly, I feel that the Nets should either stay here with Xanadu makeover, or go to Newark with the Devils, but they should NOT move to Brooklyn over a place where many are currently living in.

Is there anything wrong with the color of the seats, or is it b/c you are possibly a homophobe for saying that?

It's because pink and purple match neither of the home team's colors!

What is with you people, you fly off the handle or make insulting remarks any time someone's critical. Knock it off! :speech: :gunz:

It's crap. I love the Devils but the place always seemed to be darker than most other arenas, as if they hadn't installed enough lighting.

Half of the arenas and stadiums in the US do not have seats that are the same color as the teams that player, and I did remember that known of the seats at America West Arena matched the Suns or Coyotes colors either, and I was there at one point.

Will the Meadowlands Arena be torn down eventually?

No one seems to know. The Nets seem to be stuck in East Rutherford for life.

^^I'm thinking that this arena will become a defunct white elephant like the Amway Arena in Orlando.

Anyone care to agree?

It's still being used for concerts. The Foo Fighters played there this week. It could remain an active concert venue for a long time, particularly if XANADU ever gets finished.

(apparently xanadu has been renamed 'American Dream Meadowlands')

It hosted pro basketball and hockey for nearly 30 years. I think of white elephant stadiums & arenas more like olympic venues that are in the spotlight for a few events and then are sparingly used afterwards. They got their money's worth out of this place.

What are the chances of Metlife Inc. taking over the naming rights for this arena? "Metlife Arena", anyone?

I mean- Metlife has already put its name on the entire East Rutherford sports complex.

It would probably be preferable that Metlife didn't spend any more money trying to rename an arena, and I'm sure they aren't going to want to put up a whole bunch of new signage, since I doubt the place is still in use in 5-10 years.
