We haven't had any Lviv lately, so I'm posting some photos from 2005. Thanks to pikrpl (http://www.pbase.com/pikrpl/)! :)

Zbigniew Herbert was born in Lviv. He was one of the greatest polish poets of XX century and Nobel Prize in Literature Nominee for several times.

I like the fact that many façades are not renovated yet, so the city looks still real instead of plastic.

Hehe, Thanks! You speak the truth! :colgate:

I've heard some good things about the nightlife in Lviv. Unfortunately, the lack of light on some streets scares off some people. I hope they really improve this issue though.

Lwów (Lviv) is typical pre-war polish city, very similar with pre-war Warsaw and Łódź. The most beutiful polish opera was built just here.

If only I could, I would add Lviv to Krakow, and then Krakow would be perfecto and truly magnifico city !

No, it wasn't typical. and with all due respect to Lodz, there is not much similarity between them.
political correctness aside, yes Lviv had a lot to to with Poland. but why rub in the issue and try to pick up a fight?

Beautiful! The east is calling me, i've gotta go there again.
I allways thought Lviv was completely destroyed during WW II. It seems I was very much mistaken.

What I like about Lviv is the quality of its being neglected:) the colours may have gone pale, the paint may be flaking, but it all looks natural and in a way metaphysical. by contrast, Krakow, which during communism became very industrialized, is covered with black grime... Fortunately, though, a lot of restoration is taking place...

Just look at that:(

Actually, it was quite the contrary. Lviv was one of the cities which barely got damaged. It changed hands very quickly and without much devastation. So most of the things you see are originals, not reconstructions like in many other cities. ;)

Even though I would of course like Lviv to be renovated, I do agree that there is a certain quality from all the neglect over the years.

Still, I'm glad everything is slowly being renovated.

True, because was liberated by Polish AK (Home Army) who tried to not ravage the city. Not like barbarians soviet army, who totaly destroyed many polish and german citys.

Please, if you think that the Poles cared about the architecture of Lviv, you're kidding yourself. Lviv wasn't damaged in other hands either. It was simply an important location, and relatively easy to take over.
