BornInTheGrove March 8th, 2006, 03:31 AM Ok, so i was looking at this weeks issue of Time magazine, and theres this 3 page ad from Leviev Boymelgreen. If you go to there website www.LBMiami.com , you can see what im talking about. Skip the intro if you like, when it says (click and peel) you'll basically see how the ad in the magazine went, 'cept the ad in the mag had the same image with 'see miami' then whe you turn the page, you see the miami wall and it says "see miami the way we see miami" great unexpected ad.

Very impressive, although I'm assumming that the lack of traffic shown must mean that these future "pictures" were certainly not taken during rush hour.

Web Wise
Navigating the millions of real estate Web sites can be quite a little daunting. So this week Groundwork introduces selected sites, with more to follow. Suggestions and comments are welcome (hhill@miamisunpost.com).
Industry professionals click on to www.GlobeSt.com for daily up-to-the-minute field reporting on breaking leasing, financing, sales, development and mergers and acquisition transactions. Its Miami section lumps all South Florida news under the one heading and the reporter is based in Philadelphia, so occasional local nuances are missing. Still, a great source for everything you ever wanted to know about real estate activity.
More focused is The Slatin Report, www.theslatinreport.com, a free online newsletter with inside information on major markets such as New York, Chicago, LA, Atlanta, South Florida and Texas geared to real estate professionals nationwide. Its subscribers include investors, bankers, developers, brokers, architects, securities analysts, economic development officials and real estate attorneys from across the United States and abroad. There is a useful content archive and an e-mail alert when new content is posted, usually twice a week. Peter Slatin, who covered the commercial real estate industry for almost two decades for national publications, also publishes (with Forbes.com) the Forbes/Slatin Real Estate Report, an investment newsletter covering real estate investment trusts (REITs). It is published monthly and is available for $195/year from www.Forbesnewsletters.com/slatin.
For information on projects around the world, try www.Skyscrapercity.com.
It consists of forums that people send in, and originates in Europe. A recent listing showed new details of properties in Paris, Shanghai, Dubai and Riga Latvia, and there is plenty of information archived.
The site www.emporis.com claims “we index the world” and contains masses of info on high-rise projects globally. Emporis Buildings is the world's largest publicly available database on architectural and building data. The site is maintained by Emporis, a multinational real estate research company, and is designed as an open platform.
Emporis Buildings allows users from all over the world to participate in building information in their own cities. The goal is to index all buildings and structures so cities can be compared.

Paul305 October 25th, 2006, 11:13 PM It looks like www.communitynewspapers.com has adopted a new format which makes it possible to read WITHOUT a magnifying glass!
Rx727sfl2002 October 25th, 2006, 11:46 PM use internet explorer 7.0 at the right lower bottom it gives you a magnifying capability of up to 400 times larger with great resolution.
brickell October 26th, 2006, 04:04 PM I'm using Firefox and it seems fine. Are you referring to the flash paper? There's a built in magnifier.
Paul305 October 26th, 2006, 07:03 PM The paper used to open as an image file that could not be magnified in Firefox but now opens as a Flash applet. I would have used IE 7 if it had custom features and extensions like Firefox (I'm very hesitant toward the Firefox 2.0 switch for the same reason) but either way now there is no need because the problem is solved.
brickell October 26th, 2006, 08:21 PM Ah, I misread the initial post. Yes, I like the new format better.
NFO March 11th, 2007, 02:49 PM Speaking of periodicals, does the "South Dade News Leader" still exist? I think that was the name of it. It used to cover Cutler Ridge, Perrine, etc. Thanks.
Rx727sfl2002 March 23rd, 2007, 11:45 PM Existing home sales were up in February from January and helped the stock market to a modest gain on Friday.
But the market was held back by rising oil prices and concern over Iran's seizure of British sailors.
The big question was whether Friday's report meant the housing market has reached bottom. An answer may come Monday when the Commerce Department reports on new home sales for February.
The stock market initially thought the answer was a definite yes, and the Dow Jones industrials jumped about 63 points higher on the news.
A closer look at the numbers suggested the numbers weren't that bullish, and the gains settled back down. At the close, the Dow was up 19 points, a bit less than 0.2%, to 12,4850. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 1.7 points to 1,436, and the Nasdaq Composite Index finished downless than a point to 2,449.
The National Association of Realtors said existing-home sales rose 3.9% in February to 6.69 million units, the biggest increase since December 2003. That followed a rise in January to 6.5 million.
Economists had predicted a drop in the annual rate to 6.3 million homes last month.

Miami architecture firm founder accused of deception
Miami architectural firm Revuelta Vega Leon has splintered, with the remaining partners alleging company founder Luis O. Revuelta committed fraud.
BY PATRICK DANNER
pdanner@MiamiHerald.com
Architecture firm Revuelta Vega Leon has had a hand in shaping Miami's skyline, designing such projects as Mint and Jade Residences at Brickell Bay.
Recently, though, the principals had a falling out, and founder Luis O. Revuelta left the firm.
Now, the remaining principals are accusing Revuelta of acting underhandedly by operating his own firm while simultaneously serving as Revuelta Vega Leon's chairman and president.
In a lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court, RVL alleges the two firms competed for work on projects and that Revuelta diverted fees to his own firm for work done by RVL. In addition, RVL claims Revuelta spent RVL money on personal items, like meals, real estate and family vacations.
RVL seeks more than $10 million in damages from Revuelta.
Revuelta, in an interview, disputed the charges and vowed to defend himself. Revuelta, who had not seen the lawsuit, said the two other principals knew he had set up his own company.
''I brought in most of the revenue for the company,'' said Revuelta, who was named Miami architect of the year in 2007 by the Miami chapter of the American Institute of Architects. ``I am surprised and disappointed that they feel the need to sue me.''
RVL remains in business and has about 10 employees, said Lawrence D. Smith, a Miami lawyer who represents the firm in the lawsuit. Through Smith, RVL's Nestor Vega, 56, and Bert Leon, 55, declined to comment.
Revuelta, 56, created Luis O. Revuelta P.A. in 1995. The name changed four years later when Vega and Leon became named principals. Revuelta and Leon were pals since high school, and he has known Vega for 25 years, he said.
RVL rode the wave of Miami's residential construction boom, designing many of the city's pricey skyscrapers. Besides Jade and Mint, RVL designed Wind, Ivy, Epic, 900 Biscayne Bay and the proposed 600 Biscayne project near the landmark Freedom Tower.
Attempts to reach some of the developers were unsuccessful.
GROWTH IN FIRM
The firm grew to about 40 architects as the work poured in, The Miami Herald reported in January 2008.
As condo work dwindled, the firm developed a sub-specialty in designing auto dealerships, including Bill Ussery's Mercedes-Benz dealership in Cutler Bay.
State corporate records show Revuelta, while still with RVL, formed his own firm in 2001.
The lawsuit doesn't say when his partners learned of the venture. Revuelta said he told them when he created the firm that their business together ``wasn't working out.''
The suit accuses Revuelta of taking RVL books, records and equipment with him when he left in December.
While with RVL, the lawsuit says, Revuelta's mother served as its bookkeeper and his sister-in-law performed accounting functions.
The suit claims revenue from one project was used to pay expenses on other projects or was diverted to Revuelta.
PAYMENT DEMANDED
Consultants and suppliers have demanded payment for work they should have already been paid for, RVL says in its suit.
RVL alleges Revuelta committed fraud by intentionally deceiving the firm. ''This deception was active and with the intent to deprive RVL of its profit [and] revenue,'' the suit charges.
The suit also claims Revuelta breached his fiduciary duty by:
• Soliciting work for his own firm that could have been performed by RVL.
• Asking clients to pay him directly for work performed by RVL.
• Diverting RVL's fees to his firm.
• Using RVL employees to work on his firm's projects.
RVL says it doesn't have a complete picture of its financial condition and wants the court to order an accounting of its finances to compare with what Revuelta reported.
