singaporean February 17th, 2006, 12:42 PM HYDERABAD: Call to promote IT education
By Our Correspondent
HYDERABAD, Feb 15: Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro has observed that the country is lagging behind in the field of IT education which is the key to development in the era of globalization.
Speaking at a function to inaugurate establishment of an “English language laboratory” at the Government Nazareth Girls’ Degree College here on Wednesday, she stressed the need for acquiring IT education.
Lauding efforts of MPA Abdul Rehman Rajput, who financed the laboratory out of his funds, and college principal Mrs Aftab Ahsan Qureshi, the minister said it was a step in the right direction and asked heads of other institutions to emulate the example.
She said her ministry was trying to establish such laboratories in six to 12 higher secondary schools for imparting education to students under a funding programme.
The minister hoped that students of the Nazareth college would contribute towards national income when they would join multinational companies after completing their education.
She called for motivating institutions to establish laboratories of IT and English education and urged students and teachers to realise importance of English and IT education.
Dr Khuhro said exact data of literacy ratio was not available, adding that some said that it was between 11 to 18 per cent while others put it at even 30 per cent.
She said the government was giving priority to IT literacy and had doubled funds for the education sector.
She said people must abhor corruption. “If we have dedicated education officials and heads of education institutions, our children will not lag far behind,” she said. She maintained that enlightened moderation was essential for the country and quoted arson and violence incidents in Lahore which negated this concept.
MPA Rajput proposed that if the adjacent school was attached to the Nazareth college building, its space shortage problem would be solved.
Principal Mrs Qureshi said students of the college had been securing positions right from 1961 and so far 145 positions had been secured by the college students.

With spending of huge amount, the present District Government has succeeded to dispose off the sewage and rainwater without facing any difficulty that experienced in the past, he said this while inaugurating the Ld-4 Pumping Station here at Latifabad Unit-4 on Friday.
The District Government is spending billions of rupees on completion of development schemes under Hyderabad Development Package to improve the basic infrastructure and provide better civic facilities to the people at their doorsteps, he said.
He said that under development plan, the District Government has focused its attention to improve the sewerage system, which was the root cause of the damages of basic infrastructure in urban Talukas of the district.
Besides, establishing new pumping stations, the disposal capacity of existing pumping stations is also being enhanced five to ten times more and now the people will not witness such havoc that played by heavy downpour in last September, he added.
He said that with the establishment of new pumping stations in APWA
Pumping Station, Ld-4 Pumpin Station, Sheedi Goth Pumping Station, Shoto Goth Pumping Station, Hali Road Pumping Station and extension in Main Qasimabad Pumping Station and Latifabad Unit-2 Pumping Station, the sewerage system of the district has now been able to meet any emergency situation during heavy rainfalls.

I don't know. But he (SiamuRathka) says that quite often about many cities of Pakistan. He says that ONLY Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad are proper cities, the rest are just overgrown villages.
siamu maharaj March 20th, 2008, 11:35 AM Quite true. We have villages, big glorified villages and 3 cities in Pakistan.
singaporean March 20th, 2008, 12:27 PM HYDERABAD, March 19: Two under-construction treatment plants for treating sewage and enabling it to be used for irrigating lands instead of discharging into the River Indus and Phulelli Canal, would be ready by next month, District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil said.
He said in response to journalists’ queries after laying foundation stone for Rs259.13 million eight-kilometre long Hyderabad-Jamshoro road on Tuesday that the domestic wastewater of Qasimabad, which was being discharged into the river, would be treated in the treatment plant in Qasimabad and sewage from the rest of the city, which was released into Phulelli Canal, would be treated in the plant near Isra University.
He said that the treatment plant near Isra University would redress on permanent basis the complaints of population living in Tando Mohammad Khan and Badin districts, who used Phulelli Canal was for drinking purposes.
The nazim said that the district government had enhanced capacity of existing filter plant and built eight flyovers and one underpass. Hopefully, one track of Latifabad flyover would be made operational by March 31, he said.
He said earlier addressing the foundation laying ceremony that Hyderabad-Jamshoro road also known as old Super Highway was being widened and rehabilitated to avoid traffic congestion at the entry and exit points of the city.
He cited a similar mega scheme of Rs900 million Ghangra Mori bypass the foundation stone of which had been laid and said that the 11-km long bypass would have four roads, 12-foot wide each while the fifth road would be constructed on the other side of lined channel.
He informed that the scheme also envisaged two flyovers. Traffic congestion on this route that was connected to Karachi, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, Tandojam, Talhar, Matli,
Badin and other towns would ease to a great after execution of the scheme.
Mr Jamil said that the district government paid special attention to road sector to ensure that all the exit and entry points of the city were cleared of any congestion. The flyover at Giddu Chowk was part of this programme because it was another main spot, which witnessed traffic problems every day, he said.
He said that the foundation stones had not been laid just to organise ceremonies and get political mileage. The schemes would be completed at all cost in the given time, he stressed and said that 45 per cent of work on the Hyderabad-Jamshoro road had already been completed.
The project’s engineer Aijaz Munshi said that the road would be completed at a cost of Rs259.13 million and the right side of link canal would also be widened.
He said that the 30-foot wide road would now have double lanes of 24-foot each. The road’s median would be two-foot and the work would be completed in eight months, he added.

singaporean April 1st, 2008, 10:40 AM HYDERABAD, March 31: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil here on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a road from Hyderabad Bypass to Jamshoro Road which could not be built during the past 25 years, though included in the Qasimabad Regional Plan.
The District Nazim said this new artery will benefit thousands of people of Qasimabad and adjoining villages. He said the district government during two-and-a-half-year tenure had carried out massive development works in Hyderabad, especially Qasimabad which had lost its beauty due to neglect.
He said the present district government had spent billions of rupees on water supply and sewerage schemes, construction of roads, schools, hospitals and recreational spots.
He said due to the absence of sewerage system in Qasimabad and rise in subterranean waters, the value of residential houses on which people had spent their life savings had greatly depreciated.
He said the present district government had streamlined the entire water supply and sewerage system of Qasimabad.

KARACHI: The demand and prices of real estate properties in Hyderabad are witnessing a steady upward spiral while values of empty plots for housing and construction have hiked up to 25 per cent, catching the attention of both national and international investors.
Real estate agents in Hyderabad told The News that real estate establishments have witnessed a hike in value as high as three times the original cost within a month’s time.
They said the city had been a victim of the real estate recessionary period just as all the other major cities of Pakistan “but now a welcome revival is being experienced.”
Ashok of Ashok Builders said several projects had started in various popular locations of the city in the recent few months and several Karachi-based builders had also repaired to Hyderabad to start new projects. He commented Hyderabad is one of the largest cities of the country and yet international investors preferred to invest in the commercial hub or the country’s capital.
However, he further said the trend seemed to be changing for the better and the city’s close proximity to Karachi was helping to divert investments.
Abu Masood Khan, owner of Khan Estate Agency in Hyderabad informed that locations in Latifabad Unit Nos 6 and 7, Defence phase-II and Hirabad in the city are the most popular and highly in demand.
He commented “Though Latifabad was now crowded, yet several projects are still under construction and selling like hot cakes.”
He informed a residential apartment’s project by the name of Saman Plaza was the talk of the town whereas there were various other commercial schemes in different phases of completion and ready to be let out. He further said most of the property prices had increased between 15 to 25 per cent depending on the type of location.
Khan said the main city of Hyderabad was also highly preferred by clients and houses of the locality had witnessed steep increases due to their ideal locations.
Nevertheless, Hyderabad is known to be divided into two ethnic groups on the basis of language.
The Urdu speaking group, commonly known as Mohajirs in the city, mostly resides in Latifabad and the Sindhi speaking group mostly lives in Qasimabad, while people belonging to both the groups dwell in the heart of the city entailing areas Hirabad, Gari Khata, Station Road etc.
Interestingly, another real estate agent based in Hyderabad informed the ethnic disparity is strong and demands for the various projects in the divided areas reflect this as members of each of the groups prefer to own a piece of property “amongst their own locality.”
He stated most of the clients initially question where the venture was being developed to know whether it falls within “their locality” or not and then proceeded to find out other specifications.
“Nonetheless, this does not mean that there is discrimination of any sort and neither does this suggest that all the good projects are being made in the Urdu speaking localities for that would be incorrect.” he clarifies.
“The entire city is on the move and the real estate sector is particularly doing well and once we attract international investors, then I am sure eventually this ethnic gap would also edge down as international projects are bound to unite people together,” he added.
mounty April 19th, 2008, 03:47 AM This is True......
Hyderabad is now hot cake..bcoz it is the biggest center of population migration from rural areas in sindh ( after Karachi)

singaporean May 9th, 2008, 09:31 AM HYDERABAD, May 8: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a flyover at Khwaja Gharib Nawaz Chowk.
He said the flyover project would be completed by October at a cost of Rs350 million and added that work on 1,300 development projects was proceeding rapidly which included eight other flyovers, one underpass and five bridges.
Kanwar Jamil said Hyderabad, in the past known as Nerunkot, was an ancient city of Pakistan and had a long chequered history. He said about 45 years back, it used to be the third largest city of the country but lost the glory due to neglect.
He said the present district government was confronted with a host of problems including broken roads, inadequate and outdated water supply and sewerage system, deteriorated system of education and absence of health and recreational facilities.
He said this necessitated the launching of hundreds of development schemes in different sectors, simultaneously. He said at present work was proceeding at a hectic pace on six new sewerage pumping stations, sewerage treatment plants, filter plants and six flyovers. He said a flyover was almost complete while work on remaining five was proceeding at a hectic pace. He said tenders had been invited for the remaining two flyovers and one underpass on which work will begin next month. first of all, there is no such thing as "heat proof"
you can have heat resistant or insulation against heat but not heat PROOF which means literally no heat goes through even if it is 100 degrees celsius outside, it will remain as it was before indoors without any air conditioning.
secondly, it was about a decade ago when I first heard of insulation against heat in Pakistan, so that claim is a fabricated lie.
someone sue them, and, dawn

singaporean July 18th, 2008, 08:51 AM HYDERABAD, July 17: The Hyderabad airport, which was shut down 10 years ago, would be operational from August 3, said a spokesman of the district government.
The spokesman said that the Civil Aviation Authority had started renovation work at the airport.
The reopening of the airport has been a long-standing demand of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the people of the city.
District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil had pursued the matter and the airport is now reopening under the prime minister’s orders.
Former prime minister Shaukat Aziz had also passed the orders to reopen the airport but his orders were not implemented.
singaporean July 26th, 2008, 12:34 PM HYDERABAD, July 25: District Nazim of Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil has criticised the Civil Aviation Authority for declaring the Hyderabad Airport unfit for flights on the plea that its runway was not in order.
In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that it was amazing that while under the orders of a former prime minister, the airport was declared fit for flights and only the flight schedule was to be announced, but now it had dawned on CAA officials that the airport was not fit for flights.
He said when the new government came into power, he had sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat requesting for issuance of flight schedule for Hyderabad airport. The secretariat had called for a report from the Ministry of Defence on the above subject, a copy of which was also received by him, he said.
He said that the Ministry of Defence had replied that it was unprofitable to start the flights. And now that the PIA had issued its schedule to start flights in August, Civil Aviation Authority had declared the runway unfit, he said.
“This is a conspiracy against the people of Hyderabad to deprive them of swift travelling facilities,” the statement said.
The district nazim has appealed to Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and the federal minister from Hyderabad, Syed Naveed Qamar, to take action against the CAA and issue the flight schedule immediately.
singaporean July 26th, 2008, 12:49 PM HYDERABAD, July 25: Sindh Minister for Rural Development Zubair Ahmed Khan has said that because of the efforts of Haq Parast representatives, Bhitai Hospital Latifabad will soon be linked with the Liaquat University Hospital and specialist doctors from the university hospital will examine and look after patients at Bhitai hospital.
He was speaking at a dinner function hosted by Muttahida Qaumi Movement representatives at the Mehboob ground, Unit No.5, Latifabad, here on Thursday. He said that the coronary unit would also be established at Bhitai hospital to provide medical treatment to people of Latifabad near their doorsteps.
Millions of people had sacrificed their lives for achieving a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent but today the country was facing internal and external threats, the minister said and added that these threats could only be met through unity among the people.
In the interest of the solidarity of the country, it was people’s patriotic duty to forget the past differences and unite on one platform to face challenges confronting the nation, Zubair Ahmed Khan said.
He claimed that due to the efforts of the district government of Hyderabad and the Haq Parast leadership, Hyderabad Airport would be reopened and it would start its first flight from August 3.
The MQM was making all-out efforts for the development of Hyderabad the minister said and added that a strategy had been evolved to generate job opportunities for unemployed youths.
In furtherance of this objective, all incentives would be provided to entrepreneurs to set up new industrial units in Site area, he added. Party MNAs Salahuddin and Tayyab Hussain and other MQM leaders also spoke on the occasion.

He said the Sindh government had lifted the ban on employments and issued advertisements inviting applications from deserving candidates to fill the vacant vacancies in different government departments.
In order to remove the confusion in the results of candidates who had passed IBA tests for appointment in the education department, scrutiny committees had been appointed in all the districts under the chairmanship of respected DCOs, the minister said.
He said that announcement would be made for 15,000 more appointments in the education department.
He directed the EDO revenue to immediately remove all encroachments on government lands in Qasimabad taluka.

Because it's not necessary to fly to every damn airport. Secondly, I think Peshawar must be big coz of all the labor we provide to the Middle East.

singaporean August 7th, 2008, 08:41 AM HYDERABAD, Aug 6: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has proposed a ban on wall chalking and pasting of posters on walls, which he says give a very ugly look to the city.
The nazim asked members of task force for the beautification of the city during a meeting at his secretariat to implement the beautification programme by planting trees along both sides of the roads.
He said that through proper supervision and monitoring, better results could be achieved with less expense. Most of the development works carried out over the past three years, such as construction of filter plants, sewerage treatment plants and laying of sewerage lines had remained invisible so the union councils should give proper attention to beautification and plantation work.
The forest department had about 100,000 saplings and the HDA had the required machinery, which could be profitably used to beautify the city. Good results could be achieved by planting trees during monsoon season, he advised.
He said that mini taxi and van stands had greatly added to traffic problems, therefore, they should be shifted from the densely populated areas.
singaporean August 9th, 2008, 07:30 AM HYDERABAD, Aug 8: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that construction of six district government hospitals and a trauma centre is nearing completion, adding that the hospitals will provide free medical care to the people.
He said within its limited resources, the district government was providing free medical facilities to patients of hepatitis, diabetes, breast cancer and kidney ailments etc. He said this while attending a briefing about the progress in the construction of hospitals at his secretariat.
He said the government hospitals were actually meant for treatment of poor people as the rich always preferred private hospitals which were beyond the reach of the common man.
The district government was, therefore, providing free medical treatment in its hospitals to poor patients suffering from diseases like hepatitis, diabetes, breast cancer as well as dialysis facilities, he said.
He regretted that any doctor, who was sent for training in his special field, was transferred soon after the completion of his training. He said such a trained doctor should not be transferred at least for two years unless his place was taken by another trained doctor.
This was extremely important to continue uninterrupted medical treatment of the poor patients, the district nazim said.
He directed the district officer roads to improve the quality of work of the trauma centre road.
He said diabetes centres had been established in all district government hospitals and advised private medical practitioners, general hospitals and maternity homes to refer diabetes patients to these centres for free medical treatment.
He directed that a detailed list of deficient staffs should be furnished to the district government and wherever necessary such staff should be appointed.
For the screening of schoolchildren for hepatitis, the district nazim directed the health and education officers to evolve a joint strategy.
He also directed the UC nazims to prepare a schedule on daily basis for the fumigation of different areas to eliminate mosquitoes.Dr Ahmed Hyder gave a detailed briefing to the district nazim and the participants of the meeting about the performance of different hospitals, availability of staff and financial matters.
Hyderabad DCO Ali Ahmed, district health committee chairman Dr Arif Razmi, EDO health Dr Bux Ali Pitafi, DDO health Dr Ahmed Hyder, former Director General of Health of Sindh Dr Fateh Mohammad Khan, a number of UC nazims and doctors attended the briefing.
HERITAGE: Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed the departments concerned and UC nazims to ensure that the beauty of historical sites of Hyderabad should be preserved in its original shape.
He issued these instructions during the inspection of historic Holmstead Hall.
He said Holmstead Hall should be renovated and its original shape should be preserved and only the Hasrat Mohani Library should be maintained in the hall.
All unnecessary structures in the hall should be removed to create more space for readers and more books should be purchased for the library, he said that a computerised record of all books should be maintained.
He said the handicraft centre and the UC nazim office should be shifted to some other place and proper attention should be paid for the maintenance of garden of the historic building.
He also inspected the old and dilapidated buildings of street No.4 and 5 of the famous Pakka Qilla.
District works committee chairman Munawar Khanzai, district education committee chairman Q.Mohammad Hakim, deputy project director of HDP Abdul Haleem Ghori and other officials of the district government were also present on the occasion.
singaporean August 9th, 2008, 07:33 AM HYDERABAD: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jameel on Friday visited the Hyderabad airport to review the arrangements made for the resumption of flights on August 19 after a gap of 10 years, said a press release issued here. Accompanied by officials of PIA, CAA, airport and security, the Nazim visited the area where a ceremony would be held on August 19 in this regard. He directed that a red-carpet welcome should be given to passengers coming to and from the airport. Not only the passengers, the staff of the first plane arriving and departing from the airport should also be given a rousing welcome. He directed officials concerned to take measures for facilitating passengers on the resumption of air travel from the city, guide them properly and take elaborate security measures. The Nazim also visited the booking office of PIA at the Thandi Sarak here.

singaporean August 14th, 2008, 11:04 AM HYDERABAD: Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce Rauf Siddiqui has said that all out efforts are being made to move the industrial sector of Sindh on the right track of development. He said in this connection, the present government has initiated effective measures to provide maximum relief to industrialists of the province. The government has expanded the Hyderabad SITE and Small Industrial Estate Hyderabad, he said. The Minister stated this while speaking as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the extension of Hyderabad SITE and Small Industrial ESTATE Hyderabad here on Monday. He said the establishment of more industries will not only develop the industrial sector of the province, but will also help in overcoming the problem of unemployment, which will also bring progress and prosperity and reduce the crime rate in the province. The advertisement regarding balloting for the allotment of industrial plots to the industrialists will appear in the newspapers of August 14, 2008, he added. The Minister maintained that no industrialist will be allowed to sell the plots acquired on government rates at a price of own choice. The plots will be granted through balloting and if the industrialist fails to establish his own industry within three months time, the government will grant three more additional months for the purpose and in case of non- start of industrial activities, the ownership of such a plot will be cancelled.
The government has decided this in order to discourage the land mafia who developed the trend of acquiring government land from the allotees and selling the same on high prices, the Minister said. He added that the government will not allow the vested interests to adopt negative tactics in this sector. Sindh Industries Minister said 50 acres of land has been granted for extension of Small Industrial Estate, which will comprise 160 industrial plots of 100 and 500 yards and 58 commercial plots. An amount of Rs 82 million will be spent for provision of necessary facilities in the area, of which, the government will spend Rs 42 million during the current financial year, he added. HYDERABAD - August 19: Passengers gathered near a Cessna aeroplane of Pakistan International Airlines to board the first flight to take off from the domestic airport after eight years on Tuesday.
HYDERABAD, Aug 19: The government will help revive the glory of Hyderabad by providing infrastructure for basic necessities, said Federal Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment Syed Naveed Qamar.
He was speaking at a ceremony to mark resumption of PIA flights from Hyderabad on Tuesday.
He said the city would return to its former state with the combined efforts of all stakeholders, including traders, industrialists, agriculturists and public representatives. He praised the people who strived in the resumption of flights from here. The airport should be made sustainable so that direct flights could be made available from Hyderabad in future, said the minister.
He asked the officers concerned of Civil Aviation Authority to prepare PC-I to make Hyderabad Airport feasible for landing of Boeing, Air Bus and 737 planes in future.
He promised to fulfil the demand of providing refuelling facility put up by District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil for ensured direct flights to Islamabad. He said PIA’s problems would also be addressed to make it a profitable organisation.
PIA Managing Director Capt Aijaz Haroon said resumption of flights was one of the promises of Benazir Bhutto now fulfilled with the cooperation of all.Initially, the management initiated two flights with ATR planes from Hyderabad via Nawabshah, Lahore and Islamabad on Tuesdays and Fridays, while direct flights could be operated if refuelling facility was provided at the airport, he said.
Provision of basic requirements, including a developed road and public transport facility from city to airport was essential to make flight operations successful, he said.
The Managing Director assured cargo facility by road from Hyderabad to Karachi to facilitate traders, industrialists and agriculturists.
Captain Aijaz Haroon said PIA was facing huge financial losses for which the government should come to its rescue as was in other industries.
Director General, Civil Aviation Authority, Sajid Habib assured expansion of runway subject to an increase in passengers. He said the CAA will re-carpet the airport along with the landing facility for Boeing planes, if and when the air traffic increased.
President, Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Haji Muhammad Yaqoob appreciated the efforts of District Nazim Hyderabad in resuming flights from airport and demanded the PIA management to mount more flights.
District Nazim thanked Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for resumption of flights from Hyderabad adding that the move would gear up business and sports activities. He also thanked Naveed Qamar and MNA Salahuddin for raising the issue at the floor of the Assembly. He said flight resumption was made possible with PIA’s cooperation.
He said Hyderabad’s was the only airport among smaller ones where night landing was available and refuelling facility will make it sustainable.
District Nazim said landing of Boeing planes could be possible if the runway was expanded from 7,000 meters to 9,000 meters. He said cargo flights would be beneficial to growers of Hyderabad and its adjoining area.—APP

tthe problem is that this flyover is very... very narrow for large vehicles... I passed through this flyover once and it felt like it's going to fall down...
taseer121 October 3rd, 2008, 03:19 PM ^^ it looks like its gonna fall any given day.
Pakia October 3rd, 2008, 09:43 PM Now we can only hope that you're wrong and the foundations are lot stronger. Actually they seemed to have used multi pillars instead of one bulky one for each support and I've seen that in Brooklyn in congested areas.

The ascend & descend seems too steep, so probably some type of speed breaking material like cateyes, should be used on descend and Height-limiting arches on ascend, to keep off trucks atleast.

Nouman_26 October 11th, 2008, 08:17 AM HYDERABAD, Oct 10: Reviewing the pace of development work in the district, District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil directed the officials concerned to complete the schemes in time keeping quality on top. District nazim instructed the officials and contractors to give priority to bridges on Akram Wah, Pinyari Canal and Lined Channel and also called for desilting Wadhu Wah (canal) as early so that normal water flow could be ensured for Rani Bagh plantation.
