Yes, the name is for real, and it dates back from the beginning of 16th century when this place was first time mentioned.
Many tiny towns and villages in northern and western Croatia hold this prefix Sveti/Sveta (Sveta Jana, Sveti Ivan Zelina, Sveti Martin na Muri, Sveta Marija etc.)

Aries February 19th, 2006, 06:15 PM Beautiful baroque town . Love that architecture .
It's on the border with Slovenia and also the wealthiest region in Croatia .
It even looks like Slovenia.

Wealthiest part of Croatia? Not quite sure about that, although, the town is quite prosperous because it's pretty close to Zagreb, and wasn't affected by wars in the 90's. Anyway, the closer you go to Slovenian or Hungarian border, the poorer it gets - same goes for the border parts in eastern Croatia.
Speaking of the town looking Slovenian, didnt understand what you meant by that (?)
Aries February 19th, 2006, 07:29 PM I mean the arcitecture - buildings and church bell tower, look like in any Slovenian town.
have never been to continental Croatia - only visited the coast . it looks very different.

Oh i see what you mean. then you should visit continental Croatia as well, and see it yourself ;)
there's Karlovac thread i opened a little while ago, the place is not as cute as Samobor + didnt get a chance to take more pics cuz was freezing cold, but will give you an idea of a typical town in continental Croatia :)

Aries February 20th, 2006, 02:10 AM You should post pics of Varazdin .
I've heard it's the most baroque city in Croatia. That would be interesting to see.
bubach_hlubach February 20th, 2006, 02:23 AM Thanks Bubach. Always showing Croatian places in their full glory. :okay:
welcome :)
if there were no piles of dirty snow and ice, cracked asphalt and this gloomy atmosphere, that could be considered "full glory" ;)

Keep up the good work and hurry up with Varazdin. That's the place i've been to.

@thread uopste
bubach_hlubach February 25th, 2006, 01:08 AM Ma sve okay, Stevan.
mic of Orion February 25th, 2006, 03:15 AM I was once in Samobor during summer, u can barely move how many ppl are on the streets, I mean weekends, especially Saturday when I went was impossible to walk, so many ppl...
It is very nice present touristy town , during Christmas and Spring and Summer the town gets to life, there is famous glasswork in the town which are worth a visit, they produce some of the best crystal in Europe and I bought some for my mom's birthday, very nice...
I still have few left as I bought some extra for me, I use them when friends come around try to promote the glassworks, quite successfully I might add, as many actually bought Samobor Crystal over the net.. lol...
There is this Mountain Zumberak, it is very nice has superb view of Zagreb and Samobor, superb countryside for long walking and hiking...
Krasna Sreča February 25th, 2006, 09:30 PM Very Beautiful Looking City :okay:
