All I know is it's right next to the bridge... there is no tower between this one and the first bridge on the opposite side of Marina Mall

It's strange but in almost all the plots where work has been discountinued, Middle East Foundation did the shoring work.

It seems that work has now commenced on this e.g. signs of pile driving etc.
As I am opposite this site and my main bedroom directly overlooks the works I have a vested interest! Can some-one find out what the current plan is or is it same as original?

After 2 months of frenzied activity the foundations have been covered in orange tarps. and there is no-one on site. Also work seems to have stopped at Abyaar site next to it (Pier 8)

Workers are for Park Island not Shahla Tower. I am looking over the site from my bedroom window (20th floor) and all is deserted, with exposed works have been secured by tarps. Will take a pic. and see if I can get it on here.

^^ Yesterday I went there again and took a picture. Its not worth posting, since nothing has changed - for almost a month now :ohno:

No change for 1 month = On hold.

The water pumps are running and you can see the occasional person or car there, but no work.

When looking closely at the site, you can see that there is a leak to the Marina, they had to stop foundation and waterproofing. You can clearly see sand bags protecting the rest of the site from flooding. I suppose this is the reason for the halt. The pumps are working very intensely.

Loads of workers pouring concrete today, so dont know if construction is back on or they are just stabilizing the site.

Yes that is the main pile cap raft being poured. Signs are good but they may just be protecting the reinforcement before the winter rains arrive.

We will have to monitor, but good signs.

Looks like a change of contractor. Those are not Arabtec uniforms and the site offices have been changed. Could have renegotiated the contract with someone else.

yes, AFGCO (Al Fara'a General Contracting ) is the main contractor , some details still missing on the board

^^Not looking healthy, all that back proping off the shoring. The history of this site suggests the developer has fallen out of favour with 2 previous contractors. Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't knock off a few chocks on the shoring anchors as they left the site!!

Might be some progress at last. Looks like a new contractor is on site and they have installed larger pumps which have almost totally dried the site. All the old rusty rebar that was underwater has been chopped out and removed and they look to be cleaning up the site for work to possibly restart.

Just hope they can fix the leak. :nuts:

Well the flooding hasn't stopped, but the new Dewatering company must be very confident as they have had a lot of new materials delivered on site and put a crane up. :dunno:

regarding the leaking, i think all towers in the Marina have this issue, they install a temporary pump while construction is on going and than switch to a permanent pump once construction is finished... correct me if iam wrong

Well the lazy river has gone - but they seem to have built a wall to keep the leak contained and put in a couple of high-power pumps.

Cant see this being a long term fix surely? :dunno:

Day joints in a raft are not a good idea, just creates a pathway for waterleaks. Rubber water stops should be cast into the joints.

They have got the right idea about installing well pointing in front of the wall to try and tackle it from the outside. I would consider atleast a double header or better a triple header and if it works they are free to seal up the shoring. Amazing how little so called Civil Engineers working in Dubai know about problem solving.

^^ Well, it's FARA'A Construction from Abu Dhabi, not Arabtec, ACC or some other quality builders.

They should be one of those 'We can do it for cheap" contractors, cause Al Attar got them to "complete" their 342 meters tall tower in SZR, near Rose Rotana that started since early 2004 and has yet to complete the roof feature and the cladding on the outside.
