Should go great with This plus the 25 story Vantage Tower (http://www.vantagetower.com), and Harrah's 25 story hotel tower, which is nearing completion, and Trump's 70 story mixed-use tower will be fine additions to the skyline. I think it's great were getting people to move to the urban core...less congestion...better economically for downtown, etc. It's something cities are trying to get back to, but Katrina changed some people's mindsets. Now they won't worry about flooding anymore, and will be closer to their jobs.
Raleigh-NC February 22nd, 2006, 03:25 PM Congrats on this one :okay: New Orleans needs all the help it can get right now. With 700sf-3000sf going from $200,000 to $1 million, the units are not exactly cheap, but for a city like N.O. I would assume it is acceptable. The article said that the 240ft-250ft tower could break ground in the next 6 months and it should be completed in 2008... That's nice!!!

More downtown skyscrapers? All this talk of buildings, yet no cranes. Except for the Harrah's hotel, we haven't had a skyscraper go up since the 80s, and now we're talking about adding a few (even pre-Katrina)? What gives?
lamsalfl February 23rd, 2006, 06:24 AM I want to see AGT (Automated-Guided Transit) in New Orleans, now that we're getting more people downtown. Miami's Downtown Metromover is great.
It's free, cars make frequent stops, no drivers, elevated above the streets, and stops *inside* some towers.

What gives? A change in the market. Even pre-Katrina, there were a large number of highrise residential developments in place, including Trump, L'Ultime Tower, and now Vantage and others.
As for the currently developing Harrah's hotel, it is AWFUL. It looks so cheesy and Vegas-like. Harrah's would have done better with a modern icon rather than some neo-aged-grotesque montrosity intended ti mimic, in a minor way, the casino itself.

I'm suprised that this one will not face objection. How tall is the new Marriott in the Warehouse District? 25 floors seems a bit tall for the area, where there's little that's over 10.

Wait a sec.. I'm confused. You don't object to a Louisville 61 story tower thread, but you object do to a New Orleans 22 story tower thread? Perhaps you should explain what is appropriate.

Oh... err.. Sorry. I didn't realize that it had been moved.
eurogator May 31st, 2006, 03:28 AM i think its great that the city is rebuilding. i just hope that the upcoming hurricane season which starts up in just a shade under a week doesn't bring the destruction that the last one did.
