What do you mean fantastic numbers?
Forza Raalte February 25th, 2006, 01:16 AM Just some good Frenc hiphop. I don't know any numbers, I've been to Paris once and I enjoyed listening the radio there. I watched the Russian Parkour movie and I heard there was French music in the background too. I immeadetly tried to download something but I couldn't find any proper music.
So if you have some examples? I'll try anything ;)
eklips February 25th, 2006, 01:47 AM yeah no problem, first things first, the mainstream french rap scene mostly sucks! so forget about the likes of 113, bouba, sinik, rohff, fonky family etc.
Although a few artists and crews can be ok, such as Sain supa crew or les psy4 de la rime.
Then there is the underground scene, and it all depends on what you like.
You have old school hiphop, with the likes of Assassin (http://www.hiphopdeal.com/article2050.html the new things he does is shit though), ntm (http://www.hiphopdeal.com/article2035.html), iam, and others, if you want to really get to know old school french rap, try listening to the old 2 rapatitude compilations, or try to find Lionel D stuff (arguably France's first realy MC)
Les sages poetes de la rue, fabe where also pretty good in the 90's
Then with what is done nowadays you have "racaille" rap, rap from the "hood" if it has to be compared with anything it is gangsta rap, without the guns and ladies, you have the likes of tandem (http://www.hiphopdeal.com/article1605.html
http://www.hiphopdeal.com/article2254.html),
sinik ( http://www.hiphopdeal.com/article2041.html), I don't like him (he's from my city though :D )
james izmad.
Then you have the "political" rappers, nothing more to say about them, the most famous could be
medine (http://www.hiphopdeal.com/article727.html)
la rumeur (http://www.hiphopdeal.com/article1983.html)
casey (http://www.hiphopdeal.com/article2029.html)
and others such as kery james (a bit mainstream though, and his new album sucks).
kalash
alternative hiphop is quite old here (kabal, and later the solo albums of D'd de kabal) there is a new scene that is evolving, not everybody likes it, where the producers mix breakbeats with electronic music, and the MC's rap on it, others mix music with rock or are just plainly weird ;)
try la caution (http://www.la-caution.net/la_caution_the_a_la_menthe.zip, don't worry, it's not a virus lol, comes from their official site, http://www.hiphopdeal.com/article2051.html)
TTC, l'armée des 12 (TTC, la caution and some others together), triptik, octobre rouge (a bit less though), psykick lyrikah, svinkel, james delleck...
And then there are all the rappers that are either classic or too hard to put in a category, scred connection, rachid wallas, NAP, flynt, la cinquieme colonne, puzzle, sept, zephir, ul'team atom, la menagerie, la brigade, l'algerino, ipm, kwal (the guy travelled all over the world and his second album is full of indian, african, latin and other influences), ATK, diomay, chien de paille, etat major, princesse anies, matt moerdock (raps in english at times)
the french speaking belgium and swizerland scenes are quite developed too, with the likes of 18 sang crew, starflam, opak, pitcho, relic and many others
Hope that helped you :)

The second song is a remix of "si triste" by "3eme oeil", a crew from Marseille :)
